  1. Unfortunately I missed the documentary due to work commitments. Hopefully, it will be available on Kayo or even on YouTube? We really have suffered more than most our football club. Now, finally, after 57 years of pain, our beloved Melbourne Demons are reigning Premiers! But it still feels a little hollow until we can repeat the glory at the MCG with another Premiership. Fingers crossed we can achieve this at our spiritual home ground the MCG and as many of us as possible can be there to enjoy it with family and friends. GO DEMONS IN 2022!!! 🔴🔵👹
  2. I was just wondering if there has been any news about who will be unfurling the 2021 AFL Premiership Flag for the Round 1 game against the Bulldogs at the MCG? Who will be unfurling the flag for the Melbourne Football Club? I'm assuming it will be Ron Barassi? Or perhaps Nathan Jones? Or even Neale Daniher? However, it is my view that the honour should go to Ron Barassi due to him missing out at the Premiership celebrations in December 2021 due to unfortunately catching COVID-19. It will be wonderful to see Ron Barassi hoisting the Melbourne Demons first Premiership Flag since 1964! Our Premiership drought of 57 years finally over! GO DEMONS!!! We are the reigning Premiers! 😁
  3. Yes, of course. I just like the WEG artwork. The 1988 grand final was a horrible day! I was too young to remember it but it's not something I would ever want to re-watch either. The 2000 grand final was terrible enough! Nevertheless, the 1958 losing grand final poster has now been re-used by the WEG family. Time for the 1988 and 2000 losing grand final posters to be re-used as well....hopefully!
  4. I would love a 350 game player, a 400 game player and a 100 goals in a season forward line player for Melbourne. I would also like another team to lose by over 190+ points in an AFL game. However, I will choose more Premierships over all of these records every time. After a 57 year Premiership drought finally over I think we all would like to see a bit of sustained success by the Demons. Winning Flags is all that matters.
  5. Good news! I was kindly given a copy from a person on Big Footy of the image of the WEG 1988 losing VFL Grand Final poster for Melbourne. It's a ripper this poster! I highly recommend people save this image as it is very rare!
  6. I unfortunately have work commitments and cannot attend the 2022 MFC AGM. Can someone who is attending please ask some questions at the AGM on my behalf? They are combined questions. But I think it is important that they are asked. 1) What is happening with the progress of the Home Training Base? Is it still a priority for the MFC? Why is it taking so long? How much will it cost and can a fund raising campaign be initiated so that MFC members and supporters can financially contribute? 2) Why were MFC members not sent their MFC board election papers earlier? Why were some MFC members not sent their MFC board election papers or they were sent to the wrong address? How is a democratically fair and transparent election process supposed to be conducted in these circumstances? Who is going take responsibility for these incompetent mistakes? Anyway, hopefully others here on Demonland feel the same way that these questions need to be answered with a full explanation by the MFC board or CEO Gary Pert (who I think is doing a fantastic job). I am not asking these questions to cause "trouble". I totally support Kate Roffey as President and who ever else is elected on the MFC board. I simply love and care about the MFC and want to have some answers.
  7. I will always have a soft spot for Jesse Hogan. I used to love watching him play for the Demons! He was incredible in his breakout season for the Demons in 2015. I would definitely welcome him back at the Melbourne Football Club. However, we are Premiers without him, and as harsh as it may sound, we don't really need him anymore.
  8. I certainly agree! How different from years gone past. I actually think the genuine speed as to the way the Demons were training today in this scratch match looked like we will be even quicker than last season. It's going to be an incredible season in 2022. I am super excited! GO DEMONS!!! 🔴🔵👹
  9. Hard to have any sympathy for Geelong. Let's just say the AFL knew and was feeling generous and gave the Cats an extra week. I am pretty confident the Demons would of still beaten them. Anyway, it doesn't matter now and Chris Scott's comments are superfluous.
  10. Gotta love the gold! First time we have had the privilege to have a gold AFL logo due to the Melbourne Demons being reigning AFL Premiers! 😁 I actually prefer the contrasting colors for sponsor logos. So the light blue Zurich logo on the dark/navy blue and red Demons Home jumper looks great. As for the light blue Zurich logo with the light/royal blue and red Demons Away jumper it hasn't changed from last year. I actually find it tacky and would prefer to have a dark blue Zurich logo to contrast the light/royal blue of the Demons Away jumper. Oh well....half way there I guess. Furthermore, I am a bit traditional in that I would prefer the Melbourne Demons long-sleeved jumpers to have red cuffs at the end of them like we had in the 1990's. Kind of like this... Anyway, that's just my 2 cents on the matter.
  11. What I always wonder about is why the Melbourne Football Club has had so few 300+ game players? Especially with a Football Club as old as ours. I know some Football Clubs have numerous 300+ game players and even 400 game players. Especially Football Clubs like Hawthorn, Richmond, North Melbourne and Essendon. However, the Melbourne Demons only have David Neitz and now Nathan Jones. The late and great Robbie Flower probably could of but definitely had numerous injuries throughout his career. Adem Yze and James McDonald were definitely chances to play 300+ games too. Historically, so could of 1950s champion Demons Rover Stuart Spencer if he hadn't moved to Tasmania at the prime if his career. Lets hope that this lack of 300 game players changes in the future. I am confident that it can with the likes of Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw, Christian Salem, Clayton Oliver and even James Harmes. All are relatively young and are well over 100+ games. Anyway, I would definitely be interested knowing who else at the Melbourne Demons people here think might be a chance of playing 300+ games?
  12. Hang on! What?! Really? That's a bit disappointing. I was looking forward to hearing more interviews by Mark "Choco" Williams regarding his contribution as Head of Development for the MFC. How he was going with developing our young recruits. I also had my hopes up that @Demonlandmight be fortunate enough to try and get Mark "Choco" Williams on the Demonland podcast this year.
  13. I still think it's a bit too early to tell. I don't like to make such arrogant predictions either. After 5 or 6 Premierships with the Melbourne Demons, multiple Norm Smith medals, perhaps a Brownlow medal or two, a few more Best & Fairests and playing over 300+ games for us I will consider him worthy....😉
  14. Let's just hope we can beat Collingwood this year. Losing to them at the SCG really irked me last year. Luckily we won the 2021 AFL Premiership to make up for it! 😁
  15. That's actually a valid question. I definitely prefer physical membership cards but I can deal with a mobile phone digital membership I guess.... However, what about elderly MFC members or those who don't have Smart Phones? My Dad is 73 and has no clue how to set up a digital membership. Just because we have all this technology doesn't mean we should be forced to use it in every aspect of our lives.
  16. That's great to hear! That was definitely one of my concerns regarding his disposal. Gone are the days of just kicking the ball blindly up in the air towards our forwardline. Let's hope he has been improving his kicking skills with the help of Mark "Choco" Williams.
  17. All I ask is that we maintain the rage about this vital matter. We MUST have a Home Training Base built for the Melbourne Football Club. No compromises here. While we finally broke our Premiership drought after 57 years of pain. One of the fundamental reasons as to why we didn't win a Premiership sooner is not having a Home Training Base in my opinion. We have been football nomads. Occasionally allowed to train on the MCG but dependent on the MCC's good graces. Training at all different places until we got a 30 year lease at the St. Kilda Saints old Home Ground at Junction Oval. While we can historically look at the fact that the MCG is our spiritual home. The MCC could of definitely done more for us. Norm Smith knew that the Melbourne Demons had a huge advantage when we were the only tenants at the MCG. All that changed in 1965 onwards when Richmond and then others were made tenants. Nowadays you could almost say that the MCG is a "neutral venue" when two big Victorian clubs (e.g. Collingwood Vs Richmond) are playing eachother at the MCG. We have had so many missed opportunities to have had a permanent training base built close to the MCG over the decades too. You could even go as far back as the East Melbourne Cricket ground being shut down and not logically moved to near Jolimont after 1922. Then you had the chance to build another ground during or after WW2 when the Melbourne Demons had to share Punt Road Oval with the Richmond Tigers. Then after the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 you had a prime opportunity to build something at Olympic Park. Then again in the early 2000s we had another chance to move into Olympic Park but unfortunately Eddie McGuire (who coincidentally was on the Olympic Park Trust Board!) and the Collingwood Magpies swooped in. We now need to take our chances and get something bloody built! If it means that we as MFC members need to help fund it then so be it. Just get it done!
  18. Well definitely the 1988 and the 2000 WEG grand final posters do! 😉 Let's hope that they can be re-used for Premiership glory very soon. After a 57 year drought we can definitely say that Premierships are hard to win! Now that we have a very good team we need to make the most of our opportunities so that the Melbourne Demons have sustained success. Funnily enough I have to agree that the Demons image for 1988 WEG grand final poster is excellent (even if it is difficult to see because it is so small and distorted). However, I do have a stronger emotional attachment to the 2000 WEG grand final poster though. I guess I have vivid memories of it when it was shown in the Herald Sun newspaper and on TV on the grand final edition of the Footy Show on channel 9 way back in 2000. I also like how the Demon is holding a Premiership cup. Nevertheless it woukd make sense chronologically to use 1958, then 1988 and then 2000. But we will wait any see I guess? We are certainly overdue for a few more Premiership Flags so we shall wait and see!
  19. I like both the WEG posters and the Mark Knight posters. Although I slightly favour the WEG posters because of the tradition and history behind them over many decades. Fingers crossed the 1988 and 2000 WEG grand final posters get re-used for more Melbourne Demons Premierships in the near future! 🤞 GO DEMONS!!! 👹🔴🔵
  20. Hahahahahaha! 😂 Yes! Exactly! Dear Kate Roffey, when will our new Home Training Base be built? Asked at least 50,000 times! I am all for contributing to a future fund as long as it gets bloody built!
  21. Glad this never happened. Although a permanent training base would be nice! The Melbourne Demons certainly dodged a few merger bullets with possibilities in North Melbourne, Fitzroy, Hawthorn, Richmond and even St.Kilda being mentioned. I was there Round 22 in 1996. My first ever game live! The atmosphere was electric! I remember spraying the person's back, who was sitting in front of me at the MCG, with spittle when I was screaming and barracking so loudly for our beloved Demons to win! I still can't believe Hawthorn won by 1 point! Paul Salmon (Hawthorn ruckman at the time) should of been pinged for deliberate out of bounds when he kept knocking the ball out of bounds on the boundary line in the last few minutes against Jimmy Stynes. The Melbourne Hawks came close. But fortuitously never came about. We can thank Don Scott for that I think. Although we all know there was more to the story back in 1996 with all those dodgy proxy votes and people not allowed into the hall to vote due to capacity limitations. Almost 10 years later, I remember a very drunk Mick Molloy (radio presenter/comedian and Tigers supporter) suggesting the Melbourne Tigers outside the MCG a few years ago. He was blind drunk. I told him to shut his [censored] hole. Luckily the Demons won that game back in the mid 2000s. Having the name Melbourne and our MCC connections helped when we are an absolute laughing stock in the AFL. Interesting a lot of VFL clubs were in dire straights financially in 1986 and the introduction of the Brisbane Bears and West Coast Eagles helped prop up many clubs at the time apparently.
  22. Any further updates? I am pretty confident Simon Goodwin will re-sign for another 4 or 5 years. The lure of creating a Chicago Bulls or Boston Celtics dynasty would be incredibly tantalizing for him and the rest of the players here at the Demons. After 57 years of pain and misery a few flags would be wonderful for us long-suffering Melbourne supporters and members.
  23. Got this custom framed as a Birthday present. It has both the WEG poster and Mark Knight's poster as well as the Melbourne Demons 2021 Premiers poster from The Age newspaper in the middle. It is beautiful to behold! The Melbourne Demons 2021 Premiership triumph in all its glory! The big challenge now is putting it up on the wall!
  24. I found a very tiny image of the 1988 Melbourne losing VFL Grand Final poster. Here is the link on Big Footy with all the losing Grand Final posters: I have looked everywhere on the Internet for a larger version of the 1988 one. However, if someone could find a larger version of the image it would be greatly appreciated.
  25. I think besides winning more AFL and AFLW Premierships the main priority for the Melbourne Football Club needs to be getting our home base sorted. Hopefully this matter will be addressed at the Melbourne Football Club's Annual General Meeting in a few weeks time? While it is absolutely wonderful that we have finally broken our Premiership drought after 57 years that doesn't mean we should rest on our laurels regarding this matter of a home base.
