WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Supreme_Demon replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hopefully this trade gets sorted out tomorrow morning. It will be good to have another tall forward. The only challenge is having Demons players with kicking ability who can hit Ben Brown on the chest lace out. -
With Essendon losing Joe Daniher and Ben Brown wishing to join Melbourne you would think they would be keen on Tom McDonald too? Either way, it pushes up the asking price for Tom McDonald which is good for us if we do end up trading him or keeping him and playing him as a defender again. We have the advantage with this situation regarding Tom McDonald and we need to utilize it to benefit our list.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Supreme_Demon replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
Reasonably pleased to hear Ben Brown wishes to join the Demons. A bit of positive news! Let's hope Darren Burgess can get him fit and firing with a good pre-season under his belt. It will be interesting if he wishes to keep number 50 and wear that at the Demons? I am not against that possibiliity if Ben wants to keep wearing that number even if it is quite a high one. Have the Demons had many players wear number 50? ? -
I think Adam Treloar should just bite the bullet and move up to Queensland to the Gold Coast Suns to be with his Wife and newborn child. That's what most people would do. I don't know if the Demons can afford his very expensive contract...but there's no harm and at least speaking to his manager I guess?
-
I am happy with this. Would like to see Jayden Hunt utilize his pace more in 2021 and hopefully cement a spot in the side on a regular basis. He needs to get fitter over the pre-season and work on making sure he has more impact in games. He can kick goals but he needs to build up his possession numbers too. Hopefully Adem Yze can work on improving his field kicking too. I think Jayden should mainly play as a wingman or as a half forward.

Do you have some kind of personal issue with Mark "Choco" Williams? If you don't like him that's fine. I personally cannot stand Mick Malthouse. Is he mad? Probably.....but aren't all AFL coaches? Either way, he is still a Premiership coach and he helped develop Richmond stars like Dustin Martin who he challenged to kick 4 goals in the 2020 AFL Grand Final via a text message and Dustin did it. There was a newspaper article about it the other day actually. Here is the link about the story: https://www.sen.com.au/news/2020/11/01/mark-williams-pre-grand-final-message-to-dustin-martin/ I think Mark "Choco" Williams is well worth the risk and his experience, talents and expertise are being wasted down at Werribee in the VFL. We desperately need to improve the development of our players. If you have anyone else you can suggest then I am all ears. Anyway, we can agree to disagree.

I wouldn't mind Jaidyn Stephenson for Tom McDonald perhaps? Is Jaidyn a good kick? Does he have pace? Will a change of environment do him good? Could he fill a forward and midfielder role?
-
Time to get Mark "Choco" Williams into a role at the Melbourne Football Club. As I mentioned on another thread, with Sam Radford now stepping down as coach of the Casey Demons in the VFL this is the perfect opportunity to approach Mark "Choco" Williams. We can then look to offer Mark "Choco" Williams the combined role of head coach of the Casey Demons VFL side and also make him head of development for the Melbourne Football Club. I think this is a great opportunity and I hope that the Demons make this offer to Mark "Choco" Williams as I would love someone with his football IQ and his quality character around the Melbourne Football Club. Development has been a massive issue for the Demons over the past 10 to 15 years and me MUST get this problem addressed. I am confident that Mark "Choco" Williams is the man for the job.
-
This is a prime opportunity for the Demons to finally sign up Mark "Choco" Williams as their new coach of the Casey Demons in the VFL and also make him head of development. I am confident he would jump at the chance of taking on that role here at the Melbourne Football Club. I have been pushing this for a while but I hope with the Demons having a review at the moment that we will now finally look to give Mark "Choco" Williams the chance to be involved at our club. We certainly need good quality people at the Demons and we need to make sure development is a priority at our club as this has always been a big issue for us.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Supreme_Demon replied to Bizzell Blitz's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would like Jesse Hogan back at the Demons....but it sadly seems that ship has sailed. -
I am very happy with this decision. It will be great to have another 300 gamer at the Melbourne Football Club. Obviously he has to earn his games next year in 2021 but I will be looking forward to hopefully attending Nathan Jones' 300th game.

I think a big clean out of our assistant coaches is absolutely necessary. If we didn't have to deal with the "soft cap" restrictions then these would be my suggestions. 1) Senior Assistant and Midfield Coach - Michael Voss or Robert Harvey (who I think has been at Collingwood for far too long and probably wants a change) 2) Backline Coach - Justin Leppitsch or Matthew Scarlett 3) Matchday Strategy and Skills Coach - Adem Yze 4) Head of Development - Mark "Choco" Williams (he is the main person I would like to see the Demons recruit) 5) Specialist goal kicking Coach - Brad Green 6) Midfield Development (part-time) - Jordan Lewis 7) Development and Tackling Coach - Lenny Hayes 8) Ruck and Stoppages Coach - Dean Cox 9) Development and Field Kicking Coach - Brent Harvey 10) Leadership and Culture Manager - Brett Kirk 11) VFL Coach - Dean Solomon Obviously this isn't a very realistic list. But it would definitely be of great benefit if we could get good quality football people like this to be part of the Melbourne Demons coaching department.

Sounds to me like Brad Crouch will end up the Cats. As for Jack Viney I will be surprised and disappointed if he left. Of greater interest is what will happen with Tom Sparrow? Will we trade him to Adelaide? Or do we wish to keep him?

We desperately need a gun key forward
Supreme_Demon replied to Pickett2Jackson's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wouldn't mind having a crack at trying to get Jeremy Cameron. I know it is highly unlikely though. I long for the days we were spoilt for choice with our key forwards being David Neitz, David Schwarz and Garry Lyon. -
Thought we would keep Kyle Dunkley. He wasn't given much of an opportunity. A bit of a shame he was delisted. Will probably join his brother at the Bulldogs as others have mentioned. Would of delisted Toby Bedford and Oscar McDonald before him. The Wagner brothers were clearly not up to it. So no surprises they were delisted.
-
He definitely has the talent and can kick a bag of goals. Worth a shot perhaps?
-
A bit disappointing that Steve May missed out on at least making the All Australian squad of 40. However, I remember Russell Robertson as a specialist forward (compared to Brad Johnson who was selected) missed out on the All Australian side in 2005 when he had an excellent year and that was mystery too.
-
I definitely think besides getting Mark "Choco" Williams that we should look to try and get Michael Voss from Port Adelaide as our midfield coach. Troy Chaplin, Ben Matthews and Justin Plapp are done and dusted. Time to get some quality.

2020 has definitely been a year of learning some harsh lessons. In brutal reality any year you don't win the Premiership is a wasted year. The old 'Ricky Bobby' saying comes to mind...."If you're not first, you're last!" Having said that I appreciate Max Gawn's sentiment and it was good to hear his honest answers. Let's hope he and the rest of the Melbourne players push extra hard this coming Pre-Season. There will be no more excuses in 2021.
-
Us Melbourne supporters well and truly deserve a drink. Yet another wasted year since 1964. I would ban Mad Monday for the players as punishment for missing the finals. Let them endure the same amount of annoyance and disappointment that we as long suffering Melbourne supporters have to contend with.
-
Jayden Hunt I am happy to either keep or trade for the right deal.
-
Delist Troy Chaplin - Backline coach Justin Plapp - Midfield coach Ben Matthews - Stoppage and contest coach Josh Mahoney - Direct of Football Operations/Football Manager ‐----‐-------‐----------------------------- Time for a clean out of the dead wood.

I don't mind the blokes mucking around and having a laugh when there are no cameras around. But during game day they need to be more professional. Especially as Essendon gave us a scare and we could of dropped that game. In the end we sadly miss the finals regardless. I should note that in my opinion Harley Bennell has made the bigger stuff up wanting to go off and get drinks at the pub. That's far more disgraceful and Harley should be made to pay a fair portion of the $50,000 fine. We can simply not afford massive fines like that! Any regular person with a regular job would get sacked.

Another wasted season. I dunno what happened in 1976 when we missed out. Would of been awful as the whole decade was full of disappointment. But 1995, 2017 and 2020 have all really annoyed me. So many missed opportunities. Time to actually get ruthless Melbourne. Not just talk about it like we usually do. Anyway, let's hope they have a proper external review of the Football Department this time.

He really looked slow this year and had injuries. But he contributed too. I distinctly remember him being involved with a few goal assists but I don't know the numbers for that statistic. On purely a selfish and cultural note I think it would be better to nurse Nathan Jones to 300 games next year. It would be a good celebration and if the game is played at the MCG or Docklands I would definitely be there. he woukd only be our 2nd player to reach 300 games and I think that is incredibly important. Nevertheless, I admit to being a romanticist. After the way we treated James McDonald and Cameron Bruce and a few other senior Demons in the past I think it would be better to give Nathan Jones one final season in 2021. Either way, we will see what happens. I just feel it would be wrong to force him to retire without us as fans being able to celebrate his enormous contribution to the Melbourne Football Club. He was the only shining light in those dark days of 2012, 2013 and 2014. Nathan Jones deserves an honourable send off. Giving him one more season to get him to 300+ games won't cause any harm.
