  1. If Dunn can play a stopping role in the midfield (which he can) he would be good enough to play a role in the backline and could cover talls as well as mids and smalls. He would also provide run and a bit of grunt (he is very competitive). If there is no room in the midfield for him then i say try him down back. He may be a surprise. DB has him earmarked as a mid who can run forward and kick goals. But may be time to think outside the square.
  2. Yeah, i think the Blues will keep tanking until they have 22 first round picks lining up each week.
  3. Word is that if he was available last draft he would have been no. 1 ahead of Kruiser. So if we do get the number 1 pick this year we may the the Franchise/Marquee player we have been lacking for many years.
  4. I think Bruce is just underdone ATM. He will be ok in a few more weeks. Unfortunately Yze may have to hang his boots up during the season to allow Aussie to get a spot on the list. The game has passed by the once magical ooze. White will be on the list next year but he will play a support role rather than the main role. Holland will go at the end of this season. Neitz should also consider finishing up - Newton needs to put on another 3 - 4 kegs. We used to recruit to supplement these players now we draft to replace them. We need a 196cm backman to pick up the monsters - maybe Martin can be developed. Sadly to pick up the class players you need to HAVE 2 craap years in a row - for cash strapped clubs who cannot afford to throw money at recruiting that is a fact. I think we might need that guy from Fiji who they say could be the best no 1 pick ever - and lets face it we need a player who can put bums on seats at the G - PLUS OF COURSE ANOTHER EARLY PICK.
  5. Those players on a recovery program and playing at Sandy should not be rushed back and risk recurring injuries. Best to keep a cool head and stick to the programs for these players, Bartram, Whelan, Dunn and Rivers. Underdone players risk further injuries.
  6. Bruce was underdone and will get better. Yze should not play again. White maybe in his last season. Not sure when his contract ends but he will improve this season. Holland will be in his last season. What annoys me is that the 2 C'wood lads drafted early in 2005 are in the top 50 (Sheahans). Our no. 3 and 5 of 2003 are way behind ATM. We really need a BIGGG improvement from MCLean and Sylvia. We also need Dunn to kick on and Bate to keep improving. Newton needs to put on a few kegs but should be ok. I think we have the nucleus of a good team coming through if they all live up to their promise.
  7. PJ looked like he can really play. Bate, Sylvia and Dunn should be in next week. Wheels, Bartam and Rivers not far away now. Yze should not play again - his contract ends this year anyway. We have the most over 30's on our list in the AFL. Play the young players. White getting close to the end.
  8. That is the best news of the day WJ. Hopefully a few will be ok for next week. If Dunn can play as a mid why can't he be tried at Half back for the D's. He could take a tall or a small and he ios fairly strong now.
  9. 100% YM. Miller will definitely play CHB. Still a few out: Bate Whelan Rivers Holland and Dunn?
  10. I think DB will follow the medical plan. But there just might be a little surprise in store???
  11. RE: Alliance. IMO it has been good. I go to Sandy a few times each year but i would rather read a boring book than go and watch 'real seconds'. Its a great venue with a bit of atmosphere. There is so much difference between VFL and AFL (in standard) that it matters little what positions you put them in a VFL. Maybe if you want to get some K's into legs you may want a player to play mid but other than that. I am however sure that common sense most times would see a VFL coach play someone where they are best suited etc.
  12. You are right, Wheatley did turn it over a fair bit but so did most in the windy, hot conditions. He got a lot of the ball though and usually does ok with it. I knew my Dunn pack mark comment would get some attention but the way he is developing body wise it will not be long before he is a very good player.
  13. I do not think Bartram or Rivers will play. Miller definetly will.
  14. Whelan, Bartram and Rivers look like being round 2 - 4 before being available due to the program they are on. DB said at the breakfast that playerts bought back to early tend to reinjure themselves.
  15. Wheatley was the standout, Dunn did well and Bruce if fit will play against the hawks. Dunn is getting bigger in body each year and may end up a KPP. He ran with Gia in the first Q. In a run with role if he goes forward when we have the ball he could be very dangerous as he can lead as well as pack mark. I was at the Q time huddle and Morton is very thin but gee he can play. He seems as tall as Dunn. DB said at the Breakfast he will play this year regardless of body size as he is good enough to adapt.
  16. Must add to my last post: Dunn to step up to be a mid/forward who kicks goals. DB said at the breakfast that Dunn is exceptionally competitive and has what it takes to play mid as well as forward. DB likes this guy. Said he is a 193cm mid who can kick goals.
  17. Cale Morton shows he will be the best we have had since Lyon and Flower (DB has big wraps on this kid) Aussie will be listed and become another Flash (DB said this was a possibility). Miller will recommence playing the aggressive in your face style of a couple of years ago (DB said at the Leighoak breakfast that this WOULD HAPPEN). Like Miller Jamar will show the mongrel he has been hiding to compensate for his lack of mobility and competition from PJ and Meeson. Jones will be the midfield standout (DB said this guy has Cousins type gut running ability). Brock will step up from his 2006 season Sylvia to step up at last.

  19. I was there and really enjoyed it. Most of what was said has been written here. DB also said Aussie W has heaps of potential and will play round one if he gets a spot on the list. Said Cale Morton would play at least in the first half of the season as he could adapt despite his slight body size. Said McNamara was a Rivers type -which is a big wrap considering his age. Said Rivers, Whelan, Bartram and Wheatley would not be rushed in as it would risk further injury. The event was organized by past players and was the first one. There would be 4 more this year. Just need to polish the organisation up a little eg, presenter to name those past players present. etc. CC was very humorous and presented very well. DB is BIG on leadership and behaviour. I was impressed. I reckon these will turn out to be big events.
  20. I am going. At $30 a head not bad value. Rang about 1pm this afternoon to book. Plenty of seats still available. They expect a few to decide in the morning to turn up.
  21. Nothing wrong with handball and short passes. It is just that we stuff them up. Watched the NAB GF and that really showed up our lack of disposal skills. Also our tackling is sloppy. In the first Q at Casey we gave away 2 goals from free kicks and Green kicked directly to an opponent who kicked an easy goal. The rule regarding hands in back and hitting oppoments arms has mede it tougher for the 191 - 193cm backs against bigger forwards like the Kangas have. Going on form and that Bate, Robbo (may be suspended), Bruce underdone, etc i reckon we could struggle. I think it is best to play the kids this season.
  22. Thanks for the post. Good to see some of the guns coming back.
  23. Putting together a premier team is pretty tough. 22 players in a team. If you come up with two good players a year you have a gun team after 11 years. Of course things do not work out that way, dud draft selections, injuries, loss of form etc. Add to that less money to spend on recruiting than other clubs. Its tough. Geelong put together a gun team with largely not so hot selections. It can be argued that given how tough drafting is the father son rule won it for them. WCE won a flag with not so hot selections. Could be argued their very expensive recruiting set up and ability to recognise talent and keep them hidden until rookie time helped. Reality is that you need to recruit 2 point something good players per years to be a premier team - AND A SPRINKLING OF THEM need to be superstars. At least we got our quota when we got Bate, Dunn and Newton. Lets hope Morton, Grimes and Maric follow suit.
