Only damning in context: how many times have we had a run on of 4 or more goals? how many times have other teams suffered such a run on. how many games did we win or lose when it happened? it is a worthless piece of cheap journalism without context.

Clickbait horseshizen. Freo would need 4 first round picks, maybe 5.

It is only relevant if the person taking the mark is slowing things down. In a receive and go gameplan, it is superfluous. However the advantage is a few extra metres off the line might be gained. On the flip side, it takes a player out of the next contest, or what follows. if opposition teams are doing it, it means that we have slowed them down and are forcing them to kick to contests. The other option is to have the man running by to take the ball, get a few metres, and deliver at speed. This is just as effective, and doesn’t look petty to the viewer.

When we halve the centre and hold the ball forward, it looks OK. When that failed on Sunday, the backline was exposed. I imagine any Defensive setup would have been horribly exposed in these circumstances. Biggest failure was tagging Mitchell with Nate. He was busy, they were all over Clarry, and we had no one to give us drive from the middle. Second biggest failure was continuing with the biggest failure after about 1/2 time... Anyway, onto topic: Oscar has been doing well in 1:1's and his field kicking is much improved. He is a lock at FB now. Jetta? gone missing. Very unusual, but he is along way from top form. He also seems SLOW. Lever - my god, did he stink up the place on Sunday. He has been poor, but he was an absolute liability on the weekend. Every kick pumped to the wing (straight to a hawks player), and terrible off the deck (cost us a goal directly by his fumbling). Needs to go back. Pig - has been good and OK, so gets some slack. Lewis - when we are winning, he will look good. Under pressure, he is a liability. SLOW. Old Grandpa needs to go sit on the Casey porch. Frost - needs to settle, petal. Needs some guidance on if he is a man on man defender or an attacking half back. Boy cant be both. So, the biggest issue with our game style is when it goes over the back. We have no speed to go back with fast leading forwards or wingers. This means any over-the back is a goal opportunity to the opposition. Our game has to be built on 2 way running. The high press is nice, provided we dont let them kick over it (Billy-Ray's torp to kneeboy). Also, the hawks had #31 stationed in the centre circle for large period to run like a madman forward if they broke out of our HB line. This and the Torp leave us vulnerable. My suggestion: Oscar at FB, taking their FF. Hunt and at least one other foot foot-speed (perhaps J Smith) to run both ways. Angus to be groomed to replace Lewis. Lever needs to go back to Casey to work out how he can play in the system, and not get games on his reputation. His role in such a high press needs to be reviewed/redesigned/refined. We could potentially try Bugg back to give Jetta a rest. (casey for form) Perhaps we could look at using the centre station idea to have a designated speedster to cover back and protect our ahrses if they get over the high press. If Goodie is serious, he will send a strong message at the selection table. If you play that Shyte, then you can do it at Casey.

At this early stage: outs: Lever, Frost, ANB, Lewis, Ins: Tyson, keilty to debut, Hunt, Weideman/stretch Brayshaw plays back, Keilty replaces Lever, Hunt replaces Frost, weideman to give us structure, and chop out for Max, or stretch for outside speed. lots of others on very thin ice. this weekend about 5 teams were smashed, hardly scoring. We are not alone in the problems we have. 3rd to 12th. If you don’t wanna play, then don’t. No passengers.
-
Time is up . Patience has run out. Prove himself at Casey.
-
That was truly awful. What can Goodie say in the presser? Lever was honestly putrid. Just Putrid. beaten all over, except for Max. Need changes in attitude, structure and application.
-
I am nervous about this one, but if we apply pressure to the ball carrier all day, we can win this. I remember we played them at the G in greasy conditions a couple of seasons ago, and all they did was kick it off the deck to move it forward all day - and they beat us. We need to be tough and smart, but can do this. They have no matchup for Hogan, and what is Frawley going to do?

Max Gawn not in Top 8 Ruckmen according to The Age
buck_nekkid replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hilarious. Add it to the pile. When we burn the place down it is going to be so sweet remembering all the [censored] we were served on the way there. Max not in the top 8 - can someone show that to Max? I think we will see the desired effect.... -
Match preview and team selection - Round 4
buck_nekkid replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Currently, Frawley has no matchup. He can’t run with Hogan. If we bring in weed, we give him a match up! Makes picking him more complex. Down the other end, they have Roughy. Perhaps start OMac. Lever Gets Gunston and Frosy OBrien. Jetta Gets Cyril cant see hunt or stretch in at this point. So Angus looks most likely. Doubt any other changes at this stage. high intensity game, improved i50 delivery and better use of changing lanes by us. Curb Mitchell by not letting him get the pill and pressure their ball carrier and we win by 20 points. Stand off them and let them use their skills and we lose by 20. -

Wtf? Why make that dumb arhse comment now? Did you notice he played against us on the weekend? Are you just taking the pizz? i opened this up expecting to see people shitbagging this one trick pony, and maybe some 8ntelligence re our lack of line busting pace. I will go away disappointed.

After watching the replay for a different perspective from what I got at the ground, there is a lot to like - but still a lot to do - for us to be contenders. We lack outside speed, although Frosty had a few turbocharged blasts, but nothing like BillyHartung was able to achieve. Petracca is gold. Hogan is an absolute beast. Max just went and went all day - what a warrior. We absolutely butchered the inside 50 play all day. We can do this against the Roos, but we cannot do it against the Hawks, and less so against the Tiggers, who will run it out and down the other end for a score. We really need at least one stay at home tall, TMAC or Weids, and the half forwards working off them. We could easily have TMAC, Weids and Hogan in the one team - Hogan got his possessions everywhere, so could be a roaring HF, TMAC and Weids owning the 50. As long as they can also add defensive pressure. The backline will settle. I see our biggest problem on Saturday was allowing Sideshow stager to be one-out. Oscar did well in most contests, but isolated it is difficult for him to win with the UMPs and the way they called (or didn’t call) stuff. Lever was involved, and will continue to improve. We play a very different defense to Adelaide (our press is so much higher) that the intercept game against a fast break is almost impossible. If we go 3 from the next 4, we will be a serious contender. 2-2 and we are mid table. Anything less should not be mentioned when there are sharp objects nearby.

Why is there only Q1,2 and 4 replays available on AFL site? If anything, I thought they would want to hide the umpiring in the first! any ideas where I can access Q3?
-
Some comments on the match: The umpiring, particularly in the first quarter, was abysmal. It may have been the worst I have seen. Hats off to Jones - I thought he was poor last week, but he was som much more composed and really valuable contributor. Lewis (aka Grandpa) did some good things, but goes to ground too much and stays there. Was not disgraced today. GAWN. Nothing else on this. GAWN. Trac and Hogan - really stepping up. Bugg - heart in the mouth, only butchered one! Kent - showed his value. Ran hard, worked harder. Our inside 50 work was a mess. Early we bombed it to a contest, later we simply overpossessed it inside the arc. If we can clean this up, we will be much better. North are rabble. From about the 6th minute in the last, they were cooked. Majak daw can take a mark, but he is as dumb as a weet-bix with the footy. 4 points. Good job.

They put beer on tap because of what Dees supporters have had to endure. Where I sit I cannot ‘creatively vent’ my thoughts (perhaps it is regarded as antisocial behaviour, but Ben brown really is a [censored]). So I will either be up cheering spilling my beer over the old [censored] in the flat hat, or murmuring dark curses into my beer as I sulk. please, Dees. That poor bastard in the flat cap needs a beer shower. dees by 34

Match preview and team selection - Round 3

I think it is Frost for Hunt - don’t think height, think speed and distribution. Kent replaces Pedo. Hard body to play wreckit Ralph in the front half. He can mark and can kick a goal. -
We will break it. If we play our game for 3 1/2 quarters I cannot see them winning. If we win or halve most of the centre contests, we should be OK. Max will have a challenge, but can hold his own both in the ruck and around the ground. My biggest issue is how easily they always seem to out-mark us, both from a defensive chop out and moving to half forward to give them an entry. If we can put real pressure on their marking, their disposal is pretty rubbish. We have a better midfield (expect them to heavily man Oliver) and our forwards should overcome what has worked best for them so far - their defense. 2.10 by St Kilda in the first half is still 12 shots on goal, so their defense is not a fortress. Hogan, Garlett and the half forwards should all be cutting through this. Down back they have sideshow bob. We have young Oscar, who looks a lot like Sideshow's nemesis, Bart Simpson. Jetta to get back into his groove, and Jake to prove his value. At 5:45, we should have started a new Hoodoo - Demons first of 17 wins over these fnuckles.
-
By building him up as a ruck forward he starts to be a really valuable option. He can give Max a chop out, provide a deep option and will be a direct replacement for a Pedo. I see this as a natural progression through the year, as Weids builds, he takes Pedo’s spot. He can form a partnership with TMac, with Hoges feeding them from CHF. I think it happens as soon as he is deemed fit to go. Pedo is then depth for TMac or Weid by the end of the year.

50% off Melbourne Gear at New Balance

Code didn’t work for me... -
Stopping fast ball movement into their 50. If we have upfield pressure and ensure that our half backs work to slow the entries into 50, he can be chopped out by third man up, and can’t get the lead up marks. Best if we can draw him up to the wings (he can’t kick it from there) but assume he will stay at home in the 50. He will get at least 2 goals from free kicks. He has one of the most punchable faces in the AFL.
