I proffer the question RD. Its a process of discussion. Not all players need be stars .The power clubs often eject what they consider superfluous. They have that luxury. Even in reverse. Fitzy be a case in that mould. The players im putting out there for discussion are invariably players who might surplant weaker ones on our list at the lower end. Im not a great one to rely on drafting . You need to marry drafting with creative picking where ever it presents.

going with this...and I agree 100% is that element as you rightly highlight...'teenage" So much happens around this time ..An aspect though , for mine , which goes all but hand in hand with this period of their lives/careers is where ARE they on their respective journeys. Some may be playing very well but nearing their effective ceilings. Others are the converse and only just starting to grow as players. There's any number of variables which seem somewhat camouflaged at this time. Give them another year at least and better yet , two to work out the unknowns.

Probably not but thats not quite all of our midfileld pool though is it. Id have Salem in this group also...as is more than likely Petracca in time to come Id counter ask would you have him worse than Michie Jones ( M) Terlich Newton ? By default hed have to be better than Trengove ( reality is reality ) and youd think hed be as useful if not more still than the likes of Stretch and ANB at their current position in their long journeys. The latter two should get better but with greater depth you can take your time a bit more. No ?

What would be worth more to the Dees in say a period of 2-3 years.. 1) whatever you took in draft lotto at #50 ( in a very so-so talent pool ) or 2) a delisted premiership player with around 2-3 years of decent footy left ( most likely ) who would add certain dept to an area of the list needing just such experience ?

Yes.. Stuie Mahoney dances the good dance. He also said we wouldnt be trading pick 10 What he said was its UNLIKELY....now that does in and of itself NOT preclude anything..it say unlikely. Keep in mind that was said before some of these options presented themselves. Also even if your prime objective is players of a certain age group , again that doesnt prevent you from taking some outside of it. The clever clubs bring in players who they KNOW are capable of x y or z They dont go to the trough very often The top 4 teams have very few picks under 40 as compared the strugglers. . Yes I know its easier to hijack players when youre a destination club but the essence still remains they trade for known quantities. Why would you do this. Because the alternative is far from known.. This is where the idea of a lottery takes root. Can be argued Sydney are going to the trough....but tare they ? Its their own trough. They KNOW what/who these kids are. The general access draft is as full ( if not more ) of misses as well as some hits. Genuine hits are few and far between

Gee Terlich...Jones ( M) --Simpkin ? Terlich Jones Simpkin ? We're about to draft ( most likely ) two young raw aspiring mids. Weve made the mistake in teh past of rushing these lads into sides with the hope that they might be the ONE !! Some kids hit the ground running, some take a while to get up to speed, some just hit the ground. So if we're actually looking to develop our kids as opposed burn them too quickly then yo uneed to surround them and prop them up with players that do two things. One cater to an elementary need /role in the team but also provide a mnetor like role whcih the young can mould themsleves on If it were simply a choice between fringe players who are borderline ( or are ) NQR and a player, a PREMIERSHIP player , from the current reigning 3peat regimne whos only crime is hes a bit older than some and found it hard to break into the leagues best midfiled but still managed a B & F whilst destroying many an opponent where he WAS playing then why wouldnt you take him if only for 2-3 years whilst the kids at the other end come on Bit of a no brainer for me Hes not the best that Hawthorn had but hes from the best the League has got. How many of them do we currently have ?
