Another advantage , of sorts , is theoppotunity for the club to sell tickets/memberships etc. Tobe able to hand out the members beanies/scarves/ ties/ pens/keyfobs...whatever. Bit hard to do thatif half way across country or similar. Again its not ideal but there are opportunities to explore.

"History" and "emotion" behind Tigers MCG demands
beelzebub replied to 45HG's topic in Melbourne Demons
or not !! Nth will falter badly over the next few years and willin alllikely hood be selling games left right and centre. Melbourne needs to get bolder and more determined in its approach to the AFL This is our ground..our home. Let others go play elsewhere if you need them to -
I have to admit Im more than half expecting an announcement of anoter delisitng(s) tomorrow. Part of my thinking is to do with forward planning and no, not forward line planning. With GC and WS lurking we need tobuild stocks, some will be all but warehoused over next year or so but it might give us some more ( or better )options regardig our lists going forward than we might have at present. We pretty well know as a club what some players' currency is or could be. The FD might roll the dice and think its better to excise a couple more in order to take on new blod that might provide more options for the club as it enters the twilight-zone of sanctioned 'poaching' etc i.e it could be a simple gamble.. replace a lacklustre player(s) with one or two who might have more upside..might !!

Melbourne have probably got sets of some 'wonderful' jumpers a team could use.

One of those things that onpaper ought to have been greatly beneficial to all concerned and yet as Rogue suggests they just didnt give it any legs and it withered on the vine. A shame on one hand and relief on the other.

that would be this one other thread on Footy Board

Id much have preferred at leat one ws a home game , but if that is not to be then far better to be at the G than Subi..or AAMI..or the Dome. Not ideal..not a total tragedy either

Scott West goes full-time according to www.afl.com.au
beelzebub replied to Stigga's topic in Melbourne Demons
Welcome to the full time ranks Scott. I think he'll relish the new kids coming aboard -
We havent had a player quite like Jurrah for a long time...not so much skill sets but persona. Davey can be mercurial but he doesnt quite have the Y and Z to go with any X ( if that makes sense..lol ) . Liam has something almost unquantifiable about him. People supporting other teams admire and are in awe of him. His presence will draw people in. This coming season will really define him as the wraps are off and other eams will want to nullify his influence .. good luck with that by the way :D He's somewhat chameleon-like and I fully expect him to be about as hard to stand on as a tennis ball. As Rude Boy suggests we havent seen his best yet.. looking forward to i t:)

Must be just me...Im looking at the bright side.. they ARE away games..but at least on our turf !! could be some other cesspit like the Dome etc. We still play better at the G.. lets take the positive.

"History" and "emotion" behind Tigers MCG demands
beelzebub replied to 45HG's topic in Melbourne Demons
There's only one tenant of the G that matters ..the one who's home it really is...all others are guests !! Its our ground and others can go fumble and fossick for games elsewhere for all I care. -
Youd think that any decision isnt going to be last minute. If he is persuaded to join the Dees then he might as well come out and do it as early as practicable and then get on with training and meeting his team mates etc. The dates refer mainly to paperwork as i see it and not the likely times of announceements. If he's serious about footy and playing as much of and as many games as possible then he'd do well to get things done sooner rather than later

I spotted this little article and thought it worth the mention Against the Odds, Oval ball in Europe Much is being written about the expansion of the AFL into foreign realms with West Sydney being the closest to home. The League in all its wisdom is spending untold ( millions...and millions..and many more millions for a long long time !! ) to establish a following of our beloved code in a hostile environment. One would have to presume its all in the name of establishing the code and the continual thrust of battling codes. The league is adamant its the right thing to do... it believes that the more people that play and follow our "footy' the better and in itself that argument will get no discourse from me. Its a great game and all are welcome. So then, why is it that does bugger all to help these guys over in Europe ? They arent asking for much, certainly not millions. In a time when it faces a looming encampment by the enemy in its own domain youd think the AFL might take whatever opportunities exist to showcase or at least help others promote our great game. The AFL has all but money to burn.. Youd think a million over 4-5 years to help out the guys over in a truly "hostile" place wouldnt be a big ask !! Its been mooted that the AFL have an office over there to help out and liaise amongst teams and countries etc. Apparently nada to date. They are actually getting help from American Football....go figure wake Up AFL.. theres opportunities everywhere and they dont all need to be 7 and 8 figure deals !! Have a look at Aussie Rules Europe. To think they're doing all this off their own bat is quite amazing. I wonder if Melbourne might like to help out a team or two.. equipment wise..old jumpers etc.. I might ask them. I still reckon an idea I had years back about "International " memberships could still work. oh....this page/vid my look familiar to certain people The Rules of Football

Has all the attributes and potential to not only be an icon for the club but for the game in the same way Jesaulenko transcended Carlton. He will be a marked man but I think he has the smarts and where-withall to rise above it. With a full preseason and more games under his belt he will prove a handful. He's exciting

Jaded...despite this being the 21st century and all...sometimes the method with the best results is as old as the ages....just take something and show someone If a picture is worth a thousand words than a sample is worth a 1000 pictures !!

World Cup (Soccer) rules on local sports
beelzebub replied to darkhorse72's topic in Melbourne Demons
warning this question is not as simple or naive as some may think on first reading What is the real and tangible benefit of hosting the world Cup,,,,to the host nation ?? yes FIFA make an absolute packet out of it...telly rights.. ticket sales ..licencing of product and on and on. But what does ..say Australia stand to benefit from it ? Revenue projections are invariably erroneous, overestimating the benefits economically whilst understating the costs. Before you throw up the ol'' ..."exposure" . How many typical soccer followers are going to be potential Holiday makers to Oz simply for having seen a few games on the box ? Not the demographic that shouts tourism to me. Given the enormous expense to hold it... what do you really get for it ?? I dont think its nearly as much as many will have us believe. so what is it ? -
** bump ** Jaded...any luck with the club ??

IN hindsight...Im the first to concede Bubbledome was a total [censored] up for us...grabbing at straws really. Still it was reflective of the lay of the land back then but it has been shown how that could be changed. Vic Gov should have always built it as a 40,000 stadium and just got on with it. As it is it wont be used til 2010 and they come up short..whether it was really our doing or not. Seems strange that in this day and age there has been no contingency built in to it for extra seating. The Gov does sign some strange deals doesnt it !!

yep...all this hoopla about 1 2 11 and 18...and we still havent seen 17 and 19 from last year

Start Brad Green at Full Forward 2010....
beelzebub replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
Brad Green FF ?? Shorter and lighter than Robbo. and Robbo wasnt a FF..only ever a good third up really in the pocket. Weve seen Brad tried up there in the past..out of necessity and it just doesnt really work. Brad is far far better better working the ground esp along a wing -
I think this is a better way of viewing it all. If were warehousing some players with a view to using as depth and then as trade collateral later then you need to take the best 4. I would have thought 3 mids and a 'something"
-
If another contract isnt signed on or before hand..then yes. They have to draft him just like the rest of us. Then they would have to use their earliest pick if they thought they were serious @ 32. Im not sure how it would work in AFL but they could sign a heads of agreement in lieu of an actual contract possibly with provision to sign one at some specified date. That might get around it. but Im not at all sure if the AFL recognises such things with regards cut off dates etc edit..just saw Old's post...thats seems to make more sense. But would have thought no contract is just that.. On a lsit or not.. Stkilda are to get nothing for him, so Im not sure what claim they can still have. Old s?? ferris ??

and still shy of FIFA accreditation... some brilliant forward planning and know how there for sure
