my prediction of 9-10 remains

another of those rare moments... I agree 100% I actually think his decisions are normally more than ok. Normally his poise and assertiveness in actually providing good options is , i thought , becoming a hallmark of this player. I must be looking at a different Grimes to some others.

Three things we'd like to see this saturday?
beelzebub replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
:):) Col will be looking for a good performance....and maybe should...just should the opportunity conspire...an evener Doubt Watts will play...but who knows Forecast if for light winds and Sunny...IOW...a perfect day at the G. Could Scully improve on a mere 39 poss ?? Might the Jack Jack and Tom steam train reign surpreme ?? Be interesting to see the selection going in to this game as the FC arent making that many wholesale changes at present. All positions are earnt even if the vacancy is though injury. yep...lets get a good one sided crown there !! >:~)) -
Dees hit Jackpot I often have problems with how Lethal sees this game but am in full agrreement with his sentiments here. Jackpot indeed ) actually Jacks-pot He must surely get the nomination this week. Wouldnt be often that Lethal and Micky Mouse agree.... things are changing for us arent they !!

I cant for the life of me understand why the AFL once realising what a total stuff up it had predicated didnt order a strip change at qtr time. Any argument suggesting the unavailbility of such is a crock as new replacements could have been located and couriered within that time frame once the game had commenced. Its pure arrogance of the AFL in this matter.I comnend Cuddles for suggesting that from an MFC stance there wil lbe a zero tolerance of this in future. Bad enough they ( umps ) wore pink...but with BLUE shorts...which also had the Reebok logo like ours... sheer genious!!!! Especially in the rain..... mind boggles. The club will have to be vigilent going forward that neither officials or newby clubs encroach upon our colours.

Probably sums up the Bruce situation quite succintly. For those that are unable to discern there is often a vast difference between observed critique and vitriol. For the most what many have seen of Bruce for an extended period quite frankly deserves to be written. Many are blind to the effect he has..not the effort, often two quite different things. Bruce for the most part has 2 out of the needed 3 areas of his game covered, its nearly always the disposal and onflow that raises the ire of many a demon supporter. dont let stats fool anyone.. apparently "effective " disposal can simply mean he got rid of it to someone else, this stat never qualifies the readiness of that player or the suitability of that decision, only that he successfully got rid of it. His output has indeed shone somewhat brighter in the last handful of games and most lkely the weather and conditions reduced most players disposal to mediocre, territory CB is frequently in anyway. That said he has seemd more productive of late. There are many elements of Bruces games that commend him..and some that damn him. As noted above year end will see a re-evaluation of quite a few players in lights of the talent coming through and teh reality that some simply wont be around at the next major tilt and so their exit (earlier rather than later) may be expedited with that in mind.

FFS weve worn worse jumpers than this pink creation. Its not that far removed..at least they arent those pyjamas of a few years back. Theres a greater context and aspiration here and full marks for the club for gettting right behind it. Misplaced homophobia has no place today. Pink wouldnt worry a real man !!

He hasn't got the leg speed or agilty to be Maxwell or H O . He is more than a fair read of the play but hasn't the ammo these days to utilize it. The game is too fast mostly now forRivers

Withour McKenzie we lacked a bit in the tackling dept ( actually more than a bit as he seems to inspire others ) Our work ( pressure ) rate was considerably down. W allowed North to start dictating play. We won a few games pressuring sides to go wide and this doesnt quite occur at that Abyss (ES) . Dont underestimate Furito... Can play tall and small and with Petterd out of the game their backs had full reign over our forward line. You cant expect to take on ALL teams with only a running on style forward line. We lacked a target ( two really). Green subs ok up the sharp end but is really wasted there. Is hard if he attracts their best ..and soon and so on. Possibly not Jack's (G) best day but very servicable; is laughable to suggest dropping him. Is one of the few that knows where to go coming off of the half back line. No.. letting him work through his gremlins and gain from it. Is just a shame PJ never really came on as hed be good pinch hitting in the ruck and providing something down the sharp end...alas Maybe..just maybe we roll the dice again with him as weve already done with Juice for another look see ?? We're not really going to play finals this year no matter how excited we get.. I think theres room for some inspirational experimentation from Bailey, possibly Cheney in and release Garland up the pointy end. Id like to see Gysberts come in soonish and see what he can do at the upper level. No real harm in continuing to mix it up some this year. The team is hardly set in concrete just yet.

I was at the game on saturday and watched as Bruce went passed for a handball. The handball was over his head and stretched one arm trying to reach it. Around me I could hear socalled supporters yelling Bruce you are useless. Bruce cannot win whatever he does. You were probably one of those supporters who just love to bag him For every instance where he intentionally or inadvertently gets it right, there will be 3 or more occasions when he manifestly doesnt. It will go to a flat footed player, this said player will himself be set upon or near to by a couple of opponents the second he's received it as Cb will have all but posted his intentions on facebook. OR... he'll handball it out somewhere into no mans land in the maniacal hope that a fellow Dee may run on to it...always the good choice with an oval ball!! ( not ) or he'll just about ram it down the throat of an opponent who most ungraciously doesnt stick around to say thankyou as he's already off to deliver it properly to one of his team mates. For a player who does get in amongst it, who is obviously not too worried about close contact hits etc..he all but panics when he's actually got the pil. He'll gladly and expeditiously give it to anyopne whether its a good idea or not. A more poised player might wait that seond or so and allow the play to pass or to stall offering up a better choice for disposal, Bruce never seems to. For all his good work hes actually a liability and hes far too long down his path to ever change. The two extremes with a football.. Tom Scully>>>.Cam Bruce Its just a reality....an unfortunate one

I cringe when its just left..... as I know it can all come to no good !!

I would concur with this view. He was indeed tradable at that time. His value was that divided mainly into two schools. Some couldnt indulge the notion of a demon stalwart ..a dinky di Daniher demon finding himself on the trade table if only in the minds of certain followers. In the minds of some he had peaked and for a team going forward , at some near time in the future, his upside was disappainting. His true value was in a trade and securement of a player, whose time was yet to come. I feel we left our chances swinging in the breeze onthis and a few others. Hopefully we'll learn more about astute timing.

Didnt you hear... White Knights were to appear and save them.... still waiting apparently!! The other boat has sailed. You can sort of see how our future will brighten ( but we ought to stil maintain one eye looking over our shoulders at the spectre called insolvency ) but even with Norths new facilies and Arroccas enthusiams for lateral thinking in the revenue arena you just get the feeling they could slide into the oblivion at any moment.
-
Its never worried Bruce not to have anyone to kick or handball to........does it anyway..with such wonderful results. Stick to your guns Grimes !!
-
If GC were looking for a bit of depth and someone who can goback and front...not starring but useful...then QLDer Miller (yes Brad)might be a cheapish pickup offering 2-3 years of handy service whilst they grow and build. I think that as Melbourne's resurgence continues it will be too infectious and exciting for the likes of Petterd to leave. He'll see the opportunity of finals and dare I suggest a flag as a real possibility in his time ( At MFC ) whilst such wont be the case at GC.

So much is confidence and belif. We got wrong footed at times and overdid things because we got the jitters. The "balance"thatwas there previously allowed the players to believe it would progres up the field. We returned to second guessing and some cases of the fumbles. Not a disastrous day in the context of the bigger picture ( of steady improvement) ..but not a happy day either. Petterds influence will be missed, but he'll be back. weve still more wins to come.. and we are getting better. Bails still needs to work on the adeptness of appropriate plan B's ..for those days when you just have to accommodate the things that are going wrong. ( i.e the other team is besting you )
-
Its just amazing after so long how many just fail to observe...its not whether you get the ball its what you do with it.. And he ( Bruce ) crucifies it !! He is so less than efective with his disposal he might as well be playing for the opposition at times as hes more useful to them !! His endeavor is without peer. His usefulness is very debatable
-
Hes done this a few times over recent years. Stars against lesser talent in the magoos and finds it much touger going now in the seniors. Hes not quick and gets caght out many times by faster more agile forwards playing off of him. He was a good Daniher era defender, weve moved on from that game...he hasnt. Shame really as he will put in , but also gets niggled and distracted ( read frustrated) and gets beaten. Rivers and Miller...touted as our twin pillars some years back... neither needed now.
-
As pointed out..he's 19 He doesnt replace anyone per se..and thats the very point. we DONT have a forward setup really..its a running forward line.. i.e..the bal lis delivered with the hope there will be some personel to receive. Bate is writen in as the FF often but hes not. Neither is Green though he is rather accomplished in a fill in mode. It would make more sense to nominate Watts as a CHF but allow him in play to fal lback into the sharp end. Do we really have a luxury of waiting. I think weve just been pretty lucky to date. This is not a type of luck youd want to go through the whole season with. Its not really a case of its not broken..as its not really fixed in the first place. Our forward structure is more ad lib than secure. A really good defensive outfit will bring us back to earth with a real thud.
-
Just because we are winning...is that argument sufficient to not tweak the machine resting on laurels is frought with danger.. Some may immediately counter with...if it aint broke dont fix it. I would offer that are not so un-broken that we can justify inaction or constant vigilence regarding the teams makeup.

Chinese foray could reach 100 million "THE AFL'S first foray into China could reach as many as 100 million people with the October Kaspersky AFL Cup a chance to be broadcast live into the Shanghai region." (AFL) Im very interested to se what the club makes of any marketing oportunities from this event. Is there a possibility of some sort of International membership ? As its the Kasperky Cup can we look for some promotional subsidies to selling merchandise...i.e getting our brand out there. Maybe a competition ...the prize is a sporting holiday for some lucky Chinese to an all expense paid game at the G to se the Dees ? Hmm.. the Filth have Emirates...maybe we can snare China East .. etc...just a thought I think we might be very lucky to be one of the teams getting Chinese exposure..the upside could be quite unreal.. An audience of 100 million is an opportunity not to be wasted.

Neither should strngth be confused with bulk. Cam Mooney was a bit of a gangly kid when he started out.. Didnt hurt him. Buudy was allowed to 'bulk" up and now has had to slim down a tad. Dont go putting everyone in the same basket. If watts has teh ability , talent and fitness.. let him play at the earliest possible entry. It can only benefit him him. learning how to kick goals against the second tier is pointless..he can do that standing on his head. If its horses for courses then he needs to get off the trotting track and get with the real runners.
-
Again...so many make needless assertions. If hes not fit enough or match ready..then he will no doubt stay in the magoos.. What many are contesting is any need for a too longed run in the VFL. its not so much about this week or next week..but why does anyone think he possibly couldnt if fit. ? I dont recall a certain David Neitz to have always been his hurculean presence !! So to those that push the bulk argument.. I ask...what is the magic weight...and why? You all suggest this..now back it !!
-
yep..bulk.. thats always the thign apparently..again.. Fletcher had no bulk.. he had talent.. You can work on your bulk whilst you refine your tempo and skills. They neednt be mutually exclusive
