WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CAMERON PEDERSEN
beelzebub replied to Hannibal's topic in Melbourne Demons
lets not always equate clearances with the ruck. on the surface many just suppose one = the other. Not always the case. As put before, a decent 2nd ruck makes for a contested ball. That in itself is a small win as the game gets jammed up. Collingwood did rather well for years without even a 1st ruck of note !! Yes clearances are critical...all day. But theres ways and means You expect a good 1st ruck like Russian to win his fair share and provide first possession to us and a clearance. The 2nd ruck will in all likely hood stymie theirs. -

yep..just has to hold his ground really, not let the game swing the other way. -
missing it..hopefully a podcast later

Heres a guy who has it all to work with, he just needs to work harder, much harder to utilise his footy gifts. In danger of being a show pony . Hopefully he takes that step up, for if he does he'll be brilliant. Up to him, c'mon Nifty !!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CAMERON PEDERSEN

Week ain't over yet. Roos have a sense of humor I'll give them that.I sense we (MFC) are playing the long game here. Nth really have nothing to leverage. We can walk away. They need picks ,we don't. In that vein I suppose there is some water held in the argument preferred that we just use our picks to get whom we want and dispense with normal thinking regarding the relevant values of remaining picks..I.e their real value to us is to get a job done. Their value is against OUR needs scale not anyone else's . I still want us to just hand over any pick though. Some teams have made a better fist of things this trade period than others. I'd put us in the former and Nth in the latter. We've been quite the aggressor and can't see us needing to go soft now. As long as we get what we want I couldn't give a hoot for the others, that's their concern. Still a bit of room for fun and games this week lol. Still these weeks are about stage one of the major makeover of the list, stage 2 is in 12 months time As to rucking, the role of the 2nd up ruck us really more about providing a contest and keeping them honest, no easy pickings. Other than center bounces its more about core strength and position, position, position. Many will understand you don't actually need to win the tap to win the clearance. If you can block the oppositions preferred path and tap you have a contested ball situation, sometimes all the 2nd ruck has to do is provide that secondary contest and you then pay those to your strengths. Pedersen can probably do that sufficiently well. -

I read that too. Nice going Craig. Interesting. Gives umps eyes in the back of their heads in a fashion. Used intelligently I would think it a plus.

Thanks for the link BH. Have no qualms about getting him. Just like to fork out as little as possible providing leeway for whatever else the FD have in their sights. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES
beelzebub replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dare I say, whilst ol Frosty had his shortcomings, effort and 2nd efforts weren't his short-suit. He just wasn't suited to the #1 fwd role, a role he invariably had to pay at times because we were so short staffed. Nor will Dawes have to play as the lone tall up the sharp end. He'll be part of a setup that I genuinely think will worry defences. What can Dawes do. He can pack crash mark, he can lead up mark and he's better than a fifty/fifty at goal. He knows how to drag a defender up the ground out of the way if need be and he's a solid unit with a reasonable tank. If not asked to do something he's not best suited to(rucking) he should partner Mitch very nicely. Both are capable of either FF or CHF and will no doubt swap and cover depending on what/who plays on them on the day. Most importantly he will cause our 3rd up fwd some largesse as we'll now have more breathing room from matchups. In the past looking to the season and pontificating as to where sufficient goals would come from or the year , I'd suggest you can mark Dawes down for 1-2 per game, hopefully 2-3. Added to a possible 60-70 /season from Clark and there's your basis of effective scoreboard damage. This ought to be interesting, watching our forward line up develop. -

I very much doubt pick 26 is our last effort in the draft. You'd think we'd want at least a 3rd rounder for the last dip,not use it senselessly and unnecessary on a player no other team seems to want including the one he's currently at. I'm not arguing that Pedersen isn't of use/value to us But surely the deal can be done for a bottom pick, a slab and a packet of beer nutsv!! -
Yeah he's ok, hope he comes on in 13 (now just for the numnuts here, that was sarcasm!)

Or we might have been dead lucky and indeed only paid change for a player that could blossom. Yeah yeah it's all raffles and lottos but hey, some kids DO actually turn into players. All the way through this trade period we've seen the club target guys who have ability without necessarily ever likely to bevAA, but nonetheless very serviceable. Why do some ( and who are far less informed than the club) choose to suggest they suddenly dropped the ball re Barry ? If this had been CAc or BP selecting then I'd possibly agree as their targeting was somewhat over eager in the "potential" realm but I now see the club looking at players( even the kids) who have some harder edged pedigree.i.e. they CAN play. This draft so far (I'll include the md) we have Jesse Hogan, gun in waiting; Jack Viney soon tbr as Jack the Ripper; and also Barry. Seems the MFCSS want us to believe after two goals wed kick it out on the full !!. If Tommy Mac reckons the kid can play I might just take his word for it as he can and does. Some of you are bloody pessimistic doom and groomers, the kid just might be the 'actual' find of the draft. Yeah, be bloody terrible to have a Long/Jetta type carving his way through the midfield !! He mightnt be......but he could be and that's the thinking of the club. I'm backing the club !

Can't remember when but EQ actually thought this would end up a multi club trade-swap and happen around midweek. Might well be the case. I like the trade time but it's too long now. Get it done and get them kitted out and on the track. Let's build this team, let's get serious!! -

All well and good but I would have thought other than 4and26 they WOULD still look at a couple and the higher the pick the better.Pointless just throwing away any value -

This is the way. Dees " you want rid of Pedersen..fine. Heres p70 and weredoing you a favour" North" but we want...... " Dees" there is no discussion , thats the offer. Take it or leave it. We have others to talk to. Decision by 2pm Monday please " Thats all. You have to be able to walk away from any deal otherwise its a bad deal. That rule 1 of bartering. Dont stuff it up NOW Dees !!! -
A bit player chiming in with some good ol cameo like efforts !! You know id be happy with that. Form aside he is a player with genuine class. With others to carry much of the work he could actually be dangerous for a few seasons. Wisful perhaps but hey

WJ i respectfully suggest no one , yourself included , knows what weight is given to any component of the supposed criteria. In reality its as much made up as formulated. Why was pa given two and no other team Theirs seems ajudged significantly different . Its all so bogus. Im with Red, dumbfounded, bemused and concerned at the chicanery.
-
Cmon Aaron, whats your real opinion lol ? Talk about GafAWNing lol. Seriously though he would be a wonder if he can reach his potential ...his reach IS pretty high after all. Hope his knees hold together.

Bringing the game into disrepute. But there there are indeed guidelines. With FA its been a total schmozzle. No clear rules. No published formula and therefore no transparency . Just a half arsed attempt. Amateur hour really. Some worked that out early and played it. Bet some wished theyd pushed the envelope even further. [censored] up central lol

Something has to give...twas him. Not fussed. Neither is the club i imagine. A lower player cut.....wow...shattering stuff.

Good system isnt it. Scrap it. Free agency is free agency....swings and roundabouts. Im not too surprised and the picks. Seems a very arbitrary way to allow the AFL to play god.
