  1. https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/zurich-insurance-group-introduces-blanket-concussion-exclusion-for-new-afl-players-in-wake-of-giant-payouts/news-story/355c2c09b46bcda1f1166310a2222f64 Global insurance provider Zurich has shut the gate on concussion claims for new AFL players after a series of million-dollar payouts. [snip] The change has triggered fears footballers will be left financially exposed, with some of the league’s top agents at an AFL Players’ Association conference on Wednesday accusing the insurance provider of walking out on the game’s stars amid the concussion crisis. A senior Zurich manager confirmed that new AFL clients could not claim for concussion under the so-called Active policy in email on July 11. ā€œThe business has made a decision to exclude concussion on all professional sportspeople,ā€ the email said. ā€œNo benefit will be payable for any claim where the condition or event giving rise to the claim is directly or indirectly related to concussion or traumatic injury, including complications. ā€œThis includes chronic traumatic encephalopathy or (chronic) post-concussion syndrome or any other future diagnosis linked to head trauma.ā€ Player agents are now understood to be weighing up alternative cover options amid growing concerns about the impacts of brain injuries. this doesn't sound good, and it sounds like murphy in as bad a way as @WalkingCivilWar indicates gus is: Four AFL players have been forced into medical retirement this year due to concussions, including Collingwood’s Nathan Murphy and Josh Carmichael, Melbourne’s Angus Brayshaw and Western Bulldogs’ Aiden O’Driscoll. Last week, Murphy said he still suffered ā€œconstant headachesā€ and had days where he did ā€œnot want to get out of bedā€, 10 months after his Grand Final head-knock. Players do not have a group trauma insurance policy that covers concussions, meaning they have to take out their own individual policies in conjunction with their agents. AFL concussion victims without trauma cover only have access to money from their existing player contracts and the AFLPA’s $25m injury and hardship fund.
  2. whatwhat say what replied to McQueen's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
was never the same after he snotted andrew brayshaw - that's when his career really ended
  3. he'll certainly be better off playing the point in chicago than being the off guard in okc handle can be a bit loose at times but some of his passing is electric quick
  4. can we trade in patty mills? cat b rookie option? dude is a FREAK
  5. probably
  6. didn't know but they're vehemently anti-future trading for teams like ours and the filth - fraught with danger, as per the lachie schulz trade
  7. spoke to someone today whose mail is normally very good and said we are a better chance than not to have him with us in 2024 doesn't think it'll be two first rounders also thinks we'd be mad to trade out of 2024
  8. the people united will never be defeated
  9. jvr doesn't appear to be, he seems to relish it
  10. Souvent pour s'amuser les hommes d'equipage It's like talking to a stranger
  11. max gruzewksi ahead of him with 30.19 from 13 games
  12. he's 8th on the vfl goalkicker's tally with 29.19 from 16 games, of which i think the first three were played in defence averages per game 9.6 disposals 6.2 kicks 3.4 handballs 3.8 marks 1.9 tackles 2 goals a game (probably closer to 2.5, 3 for games played forward)
  13. yeah not sure about that a two time premiership player as a father is a pretty big deal and formative in yr life i imagine, especially as jake presumably would've grown up around that club and then freo during his early childhood; jack grew up around dees, dingley, and crom jack joining the mfc while todd worked there is a huge deal, no doubt be interesting to see if waterman wants to play in a premiership as the same colours as his dad - i suppose it depends if he thinks they can regenerate quickly on field jack had the option to go to the puddy tatts and didn't let's see if jake has the some tug on the heartstrings
  14. once tasmania and then the 20th team comes in the finals effectively being the top 10 the idea of a wildcard weekend will be deemed a lot more 'acceptable' it won't be called that tho, cos the afl will want something to trademark and license it gives the afl a new revenue stream opportunity - it's not part of the existing broadcast rights agreements, so perfect thing to pair with a streamer for two games one weekend afl can ultimately 'sell' it a la gil's round in adelaide, and make it standalone friday nite and saturday twilight / night in a sold location to the highest bidder it would actually be perfect for tasmania as there's that white elephant of a roofed stadium to utilise once the thing is built just add it to the bill as another thing for the tasmanian taxpayers to pay for as part of their initial afl set-up in the first few years i like that it gives a benefit to finishing top 6 as they get a week off while the others play off in an elimination contest presumably 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9?
  15. broken hill connection to adelaide, i assume
  16. yeah, strategic leaks i assume alongside houston, waterman, cumming, and angwin, i would love us to target the following blokes on good coin and at least ellen is on a long deal who might be looking for a change of scenery and we might be able to get them at a discount if we take on their full salary into our cap: liam ryan (meth coke) darcy parish (peptides) jack macrae (footscray) finn callaghan (gw$) in the year before he comes out of contract would cost a pretty penny but he would suit us to a tee
  17. it sounds like battle has made his decision and it won't involve us i presume the lure for cumming is that broken hill has more affiliation with adelaide than melbourne (or sydney for that matter) he would be a handy pick up for us but has done his hamstring, what, three times this year? cerra tops him out at five this season...
  18. yes his dad played 177 games for them, is a two-time premiership player, and he was 'best clubman', who then became their backline coach before switching to flagmantle so yes, i would imagine the waterman name has just as much connection as the viney for us
  19. current 2024 draft picks: 7, 38, 42, 48, 63, 81 obviously we 'own' all our 2025 picks as well, as two future years trading hasn't come in as yet the players we have been rumoured to be interested in: josh battle (aints) FREE AGENT isaac cumming (gw$) FREE AGENT ryan angwin (gw$) dan houston (pear) i think we've been ruled out of the battle sweepstakes; he's either staying at aints or going to dingley cumming talk seem to have gone quiet; i would presume we're still keen? angwin the same houston i am super keen to bring home, if we can do i worry about the supposed 'cost' of two first round picks? i expect that's ambit claim put to the medja to spruik on the pear's behalf by jason cripps and chris davies, but we shall see... ...the biggest q is whether he is worth it as i think it was @DeeSpencer said, there's first round picks and then there's 'first round picks' would love to get him
  20. absolute superstar one of the all-timers [insert: we didn't even interview him misery]
  21. will ultimately mean that only 1-6 get that silly 'bye' week in between home and away and finals so that's a 'win' for teams in that spot at any rate
  22. our percentage was decimated by two beltings from flagmantle, and now the dogs one too i don't disagree with yr requirements tho big difference between the jobs done by tomlinson and tommy mac imo - the latter is a very, very good afl player and the former is a very good vfl player with gawn, may, viney in the team, it hink we're in 'win now' mode, and that's why i expect us to bounce too
  23. too many talls maybe? wright's form has completely abandoned him waterman would be great, i think, but i'm convinced that the talk of him leaving is purely managerial manoeuvring to get a decent contract uplift now in his pre-agency year
  24. i don't think we need to plug 'a lot of holes' at all the margins between success (finals) and failure (not) are so slim in the 2024 afl season i'm very confident that we can 'bounce' in 2025, and i imagine the supposed desire from houston by the footy dept is a huge part of their confidence in doing the same
  25. we don't have that many 'kids' who aren't playing in the seniors already in the vfl last round: jefferson - will probably debut this week adams - looks a long way off it verrall - looks a long way off it sestan - not consistent enough at vfl to warrant afl selection pup brown - probably next in line for a call-up kentfield - looks a long way off it farris-white - not ready for vfl let alone afl would love to see el jefe given a solid run for the next 3 games in the seniors, and pup brown should be there too if sestan has one really good game in the vfl, would be great to see him debut for mfc next week
