didn't see any of this game - but wanted to comment on this which was accidentally posted on another thread... based on amw's seasons as a forward previously, he didn't apply that requisite pressure at least as a running half-back he is routinely getting involved in overlap play i'm not convinced his skills are good enough for him to make it at afl level, but he's only just learning the role this season

i understand people wanting to 'bring players back via the vfl' but the history of this current football administration simply doesn't do it they've clearly made the determination that a 'best team' player is better off getting run through their legs at the highest level, not the lower i think you'll find that's more the norm for modern afl clubs than not so feel free to pine for that older mentality of 'bringing players back via the vfl' i would argue it simply doesn't happen in modern sport at the top level

the biggest complaint from coaches is that it turns the game into 18 vs 17 on field a statue on field is a waste of a player hence why so many - which, again, bevo started, i think? - push back the 5m from the mark so that they're not really 'on the mark' but instead guarding space
