Remember last year when prevailing sentiment after Brisbane win was “we’re IN”. Last Q of Brisbane game we get to 22 points and I think “this is where good sides put the foot down and win by 50”. No no sooner had that stupid thought synapsed, Hipwood and co go BANG, BANG, BANG and we’re fighting in a one kick ball game. Portent of R23. Seen it too often. This is Melbourne.

Ya, no skipper and after Darwin.

Thirty odd years ago we staged a memorable comeback at Kardinia Park. Generally known as the “Templeton Game” stomped all over the Cats in the final term after trailing by 6 goals at quarter time. Lived near one R Flower sports shop and ventured in on the Monday. The little champ was asking me about the atmosphere among the few Melbourne supporters at the ground - so humble.

Was there. Wet day. Muddy. Rain. Thumped them. Met G Swan years later - staggered anyone in the world remembered his eight that day when I mentioned it to him. Time flies.
-
Was it v Geel where we thumped them in the wet at MCG and Swan kicked 8?

Guess that’s why we’re not a coach. I’d focus on next contest, team structure and game plan. BTW I reckon we had every chance in 1990

Gotta say I only caught yesterday’s game in 2nd quarter - when Hogan put us in front. Lever off by then Watched next two and a half quarters on iphone in Ho Chi Minh coffee shop. Didn’t notice Lever’s absence. Not until I saw it here after game. No mention I heard in commentary. Did see Nev do work of two and a half men.
