    Marnrook

I don't really blame him for walking or not wanting to commit. His life is a mess & by the looks of it after march next year he may not be able to see his family for a while. Family always comes before football & I hope Liam can spend some quality time with his family over the next few months. It was likely that he was never going to be able to 'comply' with the new FDs demands also, I think the writing had been on the wall for him for quite some time court case or no court case.
  2. True. If you look at how he has been played this year it is in the ruck & forward. I think he is better suited to FF or CHF without having to ruck. Giving him a defined role may give him some confidence & make him more effective than asking him to do too much.
  3. How old is Martin now? 25? He doesn't have much more time to develop & his abilities are limited when in possession. I don't know if he can be developed any further. Dawes would offer us more structure & possibly allow us to straighten up a bit more.
  4. Except once he gets the ball in any of those positions he runs round like a chook with its head cut off. I've seen 10 year olds with a greater football brain than Martin.
  5. Shane Tuck, Knights,Chapman, Q Lynch, Young, Byrnes & Scotland still remain unsigned. Think the club should be looking at Young & also Ellis at Hawthorn. It's obviously very hard to get players like Scotland or Chapman across but the club should be looking at being creative with their player payments to start the influx of players coming across. I'd be tempted to pay overs of maybe 30-50 % to bring someone like Chapman across even if it was for one or two years. Our list is terrible, paying overs for a couple of players (some may call them mercenaries) to get them across & start the ball rolling may be necessary. We payed what most people thought was overs for Clark & look how that turned out.
  6. Yeh we stood by him & he chose to go back to his community which was entirely his call to make & one only someone in that situation could understand. I don't have the slightest idea if he's playing currently. Don't really care if he has what it takes to make a return. To say it would take 3 pre seasons to get upto fitness if he wanted to make a return is ridiculous.
  7. Is that what he wanted to do? Ohhh ok. Didn't have anything to do with his father passing away & him fulfilling his family/tribal obligations during a period of mourning?
  8. Lol. 3 pre seasons! Any one remember Stewie Dew? He was a candidate for Jenny Craig & look at where that ended.
  9. Possibly Eddie has threatened legal action or asked for us to pay out his contract. Maybe the club don't want Eddie offside & canning us in the media anymore than he has already. There's plenty of reasons why. None which we are privy to.
  10. My point remains that there is nothing to stop someone resigning or walking out on a contract. Just like there is nothing to stop a coach being sacked whilst they are contracted. There are ramifications sometimes involved but to say that Malthouse couldn't coach this year if he wanted to is what Eddie will have you believe nothing more.
  11. It's called buying out a contract. Malthouse is barely 60, compare that to sir Alex ferguson who is approaching 70. If you think Malthouse will only coach for 3-4 years that's your opinion. He may not even coach at all but I wouldnt put limitations on what he is capable of.
  12. We all no agreements can be broken. The issue was whether or not the parties involved in approaching Malthouse were prepared to pay legal costs. Your last sentence is irrelevant, as I stated his record speaks for itself.
  13. Roos was never interested. I'm not too sure whether they sounded out Malthouse. When I talk about marketing the interest in Malthouse from supporters & media would have helped pay his wage. I think his record speaks for itself in terms of selection criteria.
  14. The club would not have been able to afford Lyon, Roos or Malthouse. That's what's going on at Melbourne & if the club were serious about bringing in experience they would have chosen Malthouse as he is a more marketable option, but they didn't do that either.
  15. Im not really surprised if true however there is no direct quotes from Brent or his manager so how is this news worthy ?
  16. What he said & the events of 186 was a by product of the attitudes of some of our players. I remember reading Caro Wilson's article the day after the game thinking how is it possible that a playing group could play under protest against an administrator. Perhaps Schwabs rumored medaling in the FD was justified. Parts of this playing group come across as a joke & I wouldn't give a toss if over 10 of them were shown the door come draft time.
  17. Chance Bateman hasn't played a good game since the 2008 grand final. He is finished.
  18. Would anyone who has the read the book mind writing a summary of the shortfalls of our player group as described in the book. Would be interesting reading.
  19. I would argue the difference is often the quality of possession or decision making of the player who wins the clearance. As well as the positioning of the players around him. Yes outside leg speed can be important, however you can win finals or stay in them by having players that will win/control the stoppages. You could also argue that we arent scoring from turnovers due to our kicking inefficiency. I'm not saying we don't require running players. I'd prefer the team be built around quality midfielders first then worry about adding the finishing touches later.
  20. The reason the Hawks, Swans, Pies etc are so good is because of their clearance players. Their teams are all built around having ball winning ability. Its a bit like developing a strong engine. Outside running players are really the finishing touches to the players who are extracting the pill. If we go down the path of recruiting skinny running types with quality picks in this draft I will hold no hope for the club. We are in desperate need of classy players who can get their hands on the footy first. We need players like Mitchell, Swan, Sewell, Watson, Kennedy etc before we worry about using high draft picks on outside class. Viney is just one player, I believe we need a couple more to compliment him. The club should draft outside players/runners with later picks & also through free agency.
  21. That game & I think the following week against West Coast for mine.
  22. Because he coached a group of young players & taught them nothing about tactics, accountability or work rate. He was a supposed development coach yet hardly developed any players to the standard they should be at. He may have got the team 8.5 wins last year but it was evident from the results against West Coast, Western Bulldogs & Geelong last year to name a few that he had NFI idea about what he was doing.
  23. Couldn't play any worse than what Cloke is playing at the moment & he is asking for 8 times the amount of coin.
