Nothing strange about the third quarter. Cats shut it down so there was no chance of a come back. Pies hope would have been to make up four goals in the third, then try to make up the rest in the last but they had nothing. Cats now turn it on in the last to tune up for next week.

I think you're looking for problems. When he speaks of players being unselfish and working as a unit I read it as he includes himself in that. There is no hint of him taking pot shots at others by my reading. I did like the fact that he sounds impatient for success, and there's no doubt the midfield is taking some management and players, like Oliver did somewhat this year, need to refine how they play. The main take away for me is that stuff we heard this year from some posters about how Goodwin had lost the players is BS so far as this leader is concerned. Viney's comments about being a leader are also significant for me because the way he spoke at the BnF to those who did not get a game, including them and recognising them was a genuine mark of leadership. I did not want to lose him and I am happier now that he stayed given how committed he sounds.

Crikey what does Robbo want? The bloke already opted for the big sleep once before. Reckon he has to just make a life now.

Port are snarky. Hopefully they'll give those snipers Cotchin-Lynch some of their own with interest.

Brad is managing director of GMH Fire and Safety (not connected with the former auto manufacturer). The company supplies fire extinguisher systems and does safety audits and servicing. I am delighted with Yze's appointment and as for BG, it must be good for the board to have the insights of a 200+ game player and former captain, as ordinary as Brad's year leading the group was. His role I guess is as a liaison between the football department and the board and he at least has paid his dues on field. I know many have lamented the lack of "Melbourne people" around the club but it doesn't always work, as Jimmy's time as president showed. For all that I think it's great that Yze is coming in with some intellectual property. Brad maybe less so, but welcome anyway.

Good pick up. My defence? I was lying in bed about to kip. Otherwise you got me. PS: McQueen's done it again with "fella's" but it's way too pedantic even for me to go at him again. This thread has been waylaid far too much thanks to the Coq Tete.

Very good McQueen, I fully support your post - except there's no apostrophe in 'its' as a possessive article.

Ditto. Would have enjoyed more images of the crowd leaving though for a thorough gloat. First time I can remember not minding seeing the Pies win.

Not according to Don Scott. But Geelong yes, and I hope we emulate their model.

You don't know his instructions. What you, or any of us actually see is not the whole story, not by a long way.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
pitmaster replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think TMac's future will be decided by Burgo and the doctors. If they say he can fix his speed and agility issues we'll probably keep him but if those creaking ankles aren't improving then he would be trade bait. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

Surely we can do better than this flop artist. Mick McGuane suggests Himmelberg or Cameron. And that's without thinking. -
The first year of pre-finals bye: they get their best back in time for the first final; prelim final best GWS PLAYER KNOCKED OUT INTHE 2ND QTR - Dogs home by 6pts. they had soooome breaks.

Naah so much went their way that year, even their fans will admit that.

1976 and now this. The (second) most cosseted club in the competition. May they be smashed into oblivion week one.

When I saw the headline I was going to label this the silliest thread on this website for a long time, but I've thought about it and it is in fact the stupidest, most f-witted thing I have seen. I am not even going to go into the reasons except to note that picket fence thinks if a player does not dominate every minute of every quarter, and makes zero errors in a game that by its nature is played frenetically, then that player is no good or at least trade bait. Silly. Stupid. F-witted and NFI.

Where're Hunt's critics now?
-
Also one (clever, snapped, classic opportunist) goal and one goal assist. We don't have many who can kick those half-chance goals but Hunt can. It's interesting given how much of his career was spent in defence that he averages 0.5 goals a game. Not a lot but much better than Kozzie (who I expect will start to find the goals soon), and similar to Spargo who runs about 0.7 goals a game right now. The truth is that small forwards don't see a lot of it as a rule. They call their place "starvation corner" for a reason. Eddie Betts and the Wizard are exceptions - most small forwards work very hard for not so much. I'd be sorry to see him go. I agree that the way we defend now has done away with the mad runs off half back (sea Frosty!) that Hunt used to provide, but I see a role for him on the wing and half forward. I'd prefer he stayed.

I'll add Adelaide Oval 2017: 30 possessions (15 contested) matched only by Clayton. Viney tore the Crows a new one.

Strewth hawks are terrible.

And furthermore, why would a club that chronically lacks physical presence, mongrel, bruising footballers surrender a competitive beast like Jack Viney. I agree with G Lyon. You know what you're getting with Jack. A first round draft pick? Huh, this is supposed to be the most compromised draft for a decade. A first round pick ain't worth as much this year. And who's to say we don't end up with another Jimmy Toumpas? Finally, the fact that a mob like Geelong is considering him is confirmation enough that we should keep him. The forwards need to connect better and play to his strengths as much as he tries to play to theirs.

Since Angus is in for foot surgery and all the uncertainty that a two to three month rehabilitation entails the suggestion that we can let Viney go is crazy.

I don't want to bag Caro for the sake of it. There is usually an element of truth in her stuff sometimes bolstered by much speculation. This seems to fit that type. Interesting to learn that Bartlett has not duchessed the MCC crew. Maybe true, maybe not, but that's the perception of those that talk to Caro. Certainly Caro has always had plenty of MCC contacts. Some of them are always going to be p##$ed off. There were when Gutnick ran the show. It's still interesting that Stephen Smith was approached. He'd be a terrific chairman I think but if his priority is his law practice it's merely a footnote that he was approached. Tough building a whole column around that. Where this article should be specific it's loose and general. Who are the former directors whose trust has not been won back? And where the piece runs off the rails entirely for me is the suggestion Lyon "remains an active target". Active target means we are talking to him. Or does it? Who knows wtf it means. Aren't we chasing Clarkson in the same paragraph? So we are pursuing two prospective coaches at the same time we have a coach with two years on his contract in the midst of a revenue destroying pandemic. OK, she has Josh in the gun and the assistant coaches. Well, yeah, but so does two thirds of this website. It does have the feel of, the Dees are in trouble, they are playing a crunch game Saturday night, I have to have something for Saturday's paper. As for Lyon as a possible coach? No thanks. Clarko, or his chief assistant Oooze, yes please.

wrong smith.

Sadly would not be amazed if we lost both. Would be equally unsurprised if we sneaked two wins and finished ninth. Either way the last two weeks have been profoundly sobering, deflating, disappointing and much more.
