  1. Don't be fooled by the "Collingwood did us a favour, by letting us have QB as a home game". It meant they didn't play us twice in a season. If they had to play us twice, then they wouldn't be able to play Carlton, Essendon, Richmond etc twice, where they get just as much money as their own home game. And...as a consequence we get to play interstate more than they do.
  2. One player got a week, 2 others fines: http://vfl.com.au/vfl-round-9-vflw-round-5-confirmed-mrp-sanctions/
  3. We are now 43,195 Saints now 42,605 Dogs now 43,300 North now 39,682
  4. There was a big improvement when comparing the WB game with earlier against the Hawks. The Bulldogs only play one way and that is manic pack pressure up the middle. At quarter time we completely changed set-ups to force them wide and to contests. They didn't know what to do and kept coughing it up. And we then switched to the corridor quickly on the counter to open them up time and time again. Beveridge didn't change, and they only kicked 4 for the rest of the match. In the Hawthorn game we simply didn't switch for the whole game and kept playing back into the opposition hands. It would appear the lesson from Clarko has been learned, a sign of a good coach.
  5. I would like to know what Nev Jetta's numbers are for 1 on 1. I reckon he is better still.
  6. The important thing about all of the selections over these 5 years, is that the only ones NOT at the club are White, Hulett and Mitchie, with White still at Casey. Even with low picks, Jason is selecting reliable operators, rather than speculative guesses that his predecessor seemed to wallow in.
  7. Next week could be massacre round: Melbourne v Bulldogs Sydney v Carlton WCE v St.Kilda Richmond v Essendon Geelong v Gold Coast North v Brisbane
  8. A mate of mine learned never to leave early..... He had enough with 10 minutes to go as we were 10 points down and hadn't scored in the final quarter. So to get out of the car park off he went. Got to the gate as the first roar went up when WIlliams goaled. 2nd roar 2 minutes later as he trudged through the car park when Lovell goaled. Another roar as he got to the car, but this was when WCE scored. Turned the car radio on to hear Lyon score the winning goal.
  9. ....just bumping this up again.... Andy has only received contributions of $1200 toward a target of $3k that has been spent to ensure that the site stays available for all of us. Every little bit helps, because otherwise it is out of his pocket and Nashers in terms of both $'s and time. Take out a subscription, or just find some loose change in the pocket. What would we do without Demonland?
  10. Bernie is playing in the top 22 at the moment. The following haven't ever and are out of contract at year end: Johnstone, McKenna, Keilty, Balic, with Filipovic and King The following are fringe and are out of contract at year end: JKH, Bugg, Kent, Pedersen, Vandenburg Some will be kept for development, but that is 11 players who are on the edge. If only 1/2 on that list go then the replacement draft pick is still somewhere north of 100. Is Bernie better than that? Pretty easy really.
  11. 41,759 at the Dogs 42,159 at the Saints
  12. Adelaide coaching staff gave Port the game. Sent ALL their players back, except wingers with 40 secs to go. Port had the extras at HB. Adelaide won the clearance and kicked it straight into the Port wall. Ball straight down the Port end, all in 20 secs! Port then kill the ball from the centre bounce, with numbers at the ball and run down the clock. Game over.
  13. The club's financial year finishes on 31 October. Which is only sensible to be able to report in line with the Season in which the club has operated. http://s.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL Tenant/Melbourne/PDF/171123_2017MFCAnnualReport.pdf Taxation years finish on 30 June. The tax department doesn't care how you report, it only cares about what it is owed at 30 June. The 2 are not tied together, and neither is the point at which the club/AFL records membership.
  14. And it appears the punch to the stomach is now only a fine, after Steele dropped Max in the last quarter. Initially I thought he had gone down with an injury it was that forceful. Max was furious and at the next ruck contest invited him to stand a little closer....which Steele refused to do.
  15. Bloody awful game again. 7 clangers and the ones that aren't are kicks to contest. Always turns one way because he can't kick on his right and looks to handball first. Fails to go when needed, especially the nothing effort in the last 30 seconds of the game.
  16. Zones WILL work. We only introduced a centre square to stop too many players crowding the ball at centre bounces. There isn't a problem any more there is there. All we need is a line down the middle and each team has to have a minimum of 6 players on either side...Simples! We have an emergency umpire sitting on the bench all game doing stuff all, who can hopefully count and adjudicate.
  17. Sheedy and Clarkson have been experts at exploiting the rules. Why?....because the umpires are incompetent more times than not, and fail to enforce the rules as in the rule book. 1.Who cares if you get "pulled up" for shepherding on the mark a couple of times, when you get away with it most of the time. And the only penalty is getting to take the kick again. 2. Who cares when you run over the mark when a player is coming in to kick ( another Hawthorn tactic), because it is rarely if ever called. 3.Who cares if players run into the centre square before the ball is bounced....because it is rarely called. And yet all of these situations were used time and time again yesterday. But as Demon 1858 said above : WHY AREN'T WE DOING IT AS WELL?
  18. They got $12M from the Federal government less than 10 years ago to spend, and now they want more?
  19. Don't get too excited folks.....the Saints have more members than us at 40,323....and that was a week ago.
  20. Look at who kicked our goals on the weekend.... Bugg 4, Kent, Garlett 3, Oliver 2, Hogan, Petracca, Vince, Fritsch, Lewis, Jones 12 from the small crumbers....and you can argue about the remainder. The fact is there are few contested marks taken in the forward line these days, simply because defences are set up to spoil. That is where the value lies....getting hold of the ball when it hits the ground. So kicking it long into the forward line does 2 things. It puts the ball over the top and behind the press. If you try to run it through, you will get caught ala Richmond and Dogs. It then creates the chances for the smalls to gather when the ball hits the ground, as it inevitably does. In other situation e.g. quick turnovers then a one-on-one can arise, so a directed ball is the best option. But that doesn't happen often enough.
  21. I think we could have got caught out when Tarrant withdrew and Daw came in. We weren't worried when Brown was to go into the ruck, because North then have no-one to kick goals, so only 1 ruck required. Thing was Brad Scott was too stupid to use Daw as the back-up ruck and exploit the weakness.
  22. North haven't got a second ruck either, since they didn't select Daw. So they will have to drag one of Waite, Brown or Tarrant into the job....who will we conscript?
  23. Losing a $3M annual profit from gaming means the capital needed to replace it has to be in the order of $30 - $60M.!! I’m thinking there will have to be an announcement of a new training base for the club paid for by the AFL to just allow us to break even. And then there still remains the question of on going revenue to allow us to support the side financially into the future.
