Pedersen v Weideman this weekend
Pedo. To be honest, Curnow (but his loyalty now lies elsewhere). We must’ve been close. Surely.
-
Sam Weideman
Curnow seemed a more obvious choice, but Weidemann seems to be a completely different type of tall forward. I expect his selection was very deliberate. And considered. I absolutely trust our recruitment and development these days, so I reckon he’ll make it. Perhaps not this year though, in the years to come. It’d be interesting to know what they are saying about him internally though.

Salem ready to make his mark
What is going on with the delete function on this site?! This is not intended to be a post - but I can’t bloody delete or edit it. Apologies for the re-post. Salem will be a gun by the way.

Tom McDonald - Ready to Re-sign?
Did his agent draft that article? Would be great to lock him away asap, obviously. Anyone know what Brad Green’s, Mark LeCras’ and Matthew Lloyd’s set shot stats were at the peak of their careers? 74% seems bloody good.

Salem ready to make his mark
Salem will turn a few heads this year. He's hard at it but he's such a smooth mover with elite kicking skills/vision. Roos rated him highly. While he didn't expressly say it, I always thought Roos: - rated Salem slightly higher than Josh Kelly; - would've used pick 2 in that draft on Billings or Bontempelli; and - rated Salem better than pick 9 in that draft.

Hmmm - doesn't look very good (on the face of it).

Christian Petracca declares his loyalty (2018)
Full price. It was actually a pretty funny conversation. I had to convince the lady in the sales department that it was okay, that I’d act as his proxy etc, much as I would if he had already been born but was only, say, one week old. She wasn’t convinced until I said, ‘look, the club needs the numbers’, to which she responded, ‘too right, can’t say I’ve seen this before, but okay’. It was during the Neeld years. The club hadn’t had a new member in a couple of years.

Christian Petracca declares his loyalty (2018)
How this for timing - I literally just opened my four year old son’s new membership pack. On the front of his membership card, it has a photo of Petracca. He’s Henry’s favourite player - Henry thinks he’s a real life T-Rex. On the back of his membership card, it says ‘Consecutive years of membership: 6’. I signed Henry up as a 20 week old foetus - exact full name and accurate (future) date of birth. Pretty confident he’s the youngest official member in the history of the club. He’s already waiting for his signed birthday card from the red and blue T-Rex. I’m relieved he’s committed to this club.

Christian Petracca declares his loyalty (2018)
St Kilda stuffed up SO badly with their first pick. This guy was a no brainer. You can build a list around him. Apparently he was thought to be a bit immature, yet all I see is limitless enthusiasm, loyalty and an unbridled team focus. I absolutely love this kid. I’m pumped about this extension. Super pumped!

Tom McDonald - Ready to Re-sign?
For all of our woeful recruiting over the years, pick 53 for Tommy Mac has turned out to be a complete steal.

Yes he has.

The Ox and Marko sacked by SEN
Agree. Many here should buy an internet capable radio and tune into BBC Radio 4, or ABC Radio National’s ‘Big Ideas’. They might then immediately realise how basic/limited these SEN bozos really are. Every. Single. One. Of. Them.

Are we ready? Rory Sloane
That 2008 draft was a disaster for us. Sloane was a lock at pick 35, and then at the last minute we picked Bennell instead. Shuey was apparently (almost) a lock at pick 17, and then at the last minute we picked Blease instead. Pick 19 on James Strauss - well, this was just bizarre given that 10 or so of the next dozen or so picks were seen to be well ahead of him and virtually all of them turned out to be very good players. That draft really hindered our progress at a critical time for the club. Lucky we have Jason Taylor and Todd Viney these days.

2018 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Another Max King? Max, Mitch and Max King - this is starting to do my head in.

Millionaire Ex-Demon
Nothing article. I say good luck to the guy - he was a decent player and, I think, a decent person. GetSwift’s corporate governance perhaps needs to improve, but there doesn’t seem to be any suggestion of impropriety here.

Fenceology Predicts the ladder
Finals is a non negotiable this year. I would also like to see our percentage consistently above about 110%. With an okay run with injuries, I just can’t see how we won’t play finals this year. The last decade has obviously inflicted some deep wounds on you Picket. Your Oija board findings are not supported by real world data.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
Interesting question VP. I think it’s just risk/return territory i.e. with a top pick, recruiters probably feel safer in selecting a kid who has proven form over the past year. As everyone knows though, we closely followed Lever in his draft year and he was apparently in the mix for picks 2&3 but the club simply couldn’t go past Petracca and Brayshaw. Hence the Trengove to Richmond for pick 12 trade, which was to be used on him. Jaidyn Stephenson, who Collingwood picked up last year, probably fits the category of an elite junior with injury concerns who was still selected with a high draft pick. If Collingwood didn’t pick him, he may very well have slid to pick 20 or so. Spargo will be a player - you kind of just know he will. He’s the sort of player the Swans would typically land with a second round pick. Pleasantly surprised that we landed him though.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
I like Bomber Thompson - I always look forward to his segment on 360. That said, I can't stand James Hird. Or Essendon. I continue to loathe Carlton more. They're extremely loathe-able as a club.

2017 Player Reviews: # 32 Tomas Bugg
Nothing article - the journo seems to have taken some snippets off Goodwin’s player reviews on the club’s website. That said, I rate Bugg. He brought much needed mongrel, defensive pressure and hardness to the team. He seemed always to do the inglorious stuff. We really missed him after his suspension. The punch was bad. But it was clearly a brain fade - he displayed genuine contrition and remorse after it, and I think he has been unfairly castigated for the incident ever since. I want to see him have a really big 2018. I like what he brings to the team.

The Ox and Marko sacked by SEN
I listen to ABC Radio National. But it has descended into reporting far too much on Australian political squabbles, all of which are extremely tedious and which make Oz, Marko, Dwayne and KB appear like intellectual dynamos. So it’s back to Spotify full time, with most of my information in relation to matters AFL sourced right here.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
Needs to eat a lot of chicken this preseason. That said, I've always thought Taylor would nail his first pick this draft. Second and third round picks are where really good recruiters shine.
