  1. Summing up. I have seen great players like Barassi, Mithen, Williams, Flower, McMahen , Cordner, Spencer,Tassie Johnson etc, etc, etc, etc. I think I know ability when I see it. NO, I am NOT saying he was a good as those mentioned BUT he was a very classy player. The ball use is a myth started by the infamous Yze Magic. The gullible fell for it. 72% effective disposal for a career is good is it not? Top ten for a decade is not too bad is it? Game on effort for Bruce was 100%.You are a hard marker mate. BTW he was drained physically and emotionally every game. Another unfair and untrue comment that he was never tired after a game insinuating he had not put in.

Cam Bruce handballs to Melbourne Player, loops up a high handball, Melbourne player stands and waits for the ball to come to him, takes the ball = effective possession for Bruce and also = said Melbourne player waiting for ball being crunched

It is not a myth, his disposal was ordinary

Early in his career it was actually reasonably good

However he lost confidence with his disposal and never got it back

(pinpointed moment when he lost it? the woeful miss against WCE right on half time that would've put us up, running into goal, approx 35m out - should've slotted it, instead kicked a horrid helicopter that missed by miles). That was the beginning of the end of Cam's reasonable disposal

  2. It's quite strange people knocking Cam for wearing tracksuit pants before the action. Keeping legs warm on a freezing winter's day is surely clever and logical thinking. Swimmers do it, athletes do it without ridicule. All footballers should too but tradition prevents them. Or lack of individual thought.

I think in reality "trakky dakks" was more of an affectionate terms for Bruce, more so than a derogatory one Bobby

  3. Wrong! He was laughing at the prospect of Cam being a FITNESS adviser. The 'not tough enough' comment came later. Read Flemo56's comment again Yoda.

I think he was laughing at his own joke of "Trakky Dakks Fitness Advisors"

I don't think anyone could knock Cameron for his fitness - that was a strong attribute of his

  4. Any chance Bruce and his manager summised that he had only 1 possibly 2 years (if lucky) in the AFL.

He was offered a 1 yr deal at MFC - Younger list, struggling coach, risk of another tough bottom quartile finish, another tough year ahead

He was offered a 1 yr deal at HFC - List ready to challenge again with the possibility of winning a flag.

    What do you do?

He took HFC as the one chance to possibly feature in a flag. Ok did not pay off with his injuries

What he missed at MFC in 2011?

1.Instability off field in FD and Board

    2, Terrible injury/suspension list

    3. an opportunity to participate in 186

    4. Sacking of the Coach.

    5. Certain delisting after season's end

Cant say I blame him for having a shot at glory.

"Bruce believes his amazing durability at Melbourne, as well as sixth place in this year's best-and-fairest award, meant he would be treated better by the Demons."

    From here

    and

''It was the major reason for the decision,'' he said. ''The lack of confidence started to affect my thought processes and that was the reason for the change.'' Bruce added that he was confident he had ''quite a few years left''.

  5. Some bitter, twisted people on this forum. He was not only a great player, but a great person. I too, have met him on at least three occasions and he was really easy going and friendly. His loyalty to Junior and his rough deal had a lot to do with his departure as well as his being shown the door. Thanks for all those great games Cam. You never failed to run your guts out week in, week out. Hope the club welcomes you back soon now that Bailey has gone.

    His rough deal?

Let's look at it this way.....Cameron was WELL aware of the clubs policy that 30 + year olds only received 1 year deals. He then acted as though this was a surprise.

If the media knew, all of the supporters knew etc. he could not feign ignorance.

He then waits unitl AFTER trade period, ensuring we couldn't get anything for him, to advise the club he wouldn't be signing and then effectively takes a poop on the club on his way out.

This is after on multiple times holding the club to ransom at contract renewal time and playing it out through the media - and spending years as being the clubs highest paid player

I thank Cameron for what he contributed to the club, but his actions throughout his career relating to contract renewal leave a sour taste in my mouth

  6. I will probably get shouted down for this but I personally think that we ought to be a little more bold with our offerings and try to land tippet.

Given that picks (even early ones) are speculative and by no means guaranteed, and given that we were "awarded" 2 compensation picks to replace $cully we should use them.

We also know exactly what we are getting with next years first rounder in Viney.

I would be all for offering Adelaide all 3 first round picks for Tippet and offering him $500,000 a year for 5 years.

People will scream "overs!" but is it really?

It's a publicised weaker draft and a draft in which we have 2 extra first rounders in which to replace a high quality, young and potentially elite player. So lets use them as such.

Our regular first round pick I would be prepared to use on the same player if for nothing else than it's not speculative but rather an assured pick used on a quality player to fill the most glaring hole on our list.

I think if it would take something extraordinary or "overs" to lure Tippet and we can afford to do so then why the hell not?

Would certainly be a big statement. Of all clubs we have a very first hand knowledge of the fact that there are no guarantees with high draft picks at all. At least with Tippet we know he can deliver and if we can pay him 2.5m over 5 then we will also have an major piece of the puzzle in place when the window opens

The compo picks cannot be used until next year, which is touted as a super draft

So 1 1st round pick in weak draft + 2 1st round picks in a super draft.....for Tippet? who wants to play in QLD?

    No thanks

  7. Like a bloke with the initials of TS???

    For some, yes

But mainly I've seen 2 types regarding Scully

a.) those who said he ain't that good pre decision

b.) those who believe he is still going to be a gun (which I firmly believe he will be)

  8. I lol'd at that thread. You could see their little hearts breaking right in front of you.

I do feel a bit bad for them though. Although their rough patches make ours look like nothing at all!

They have just lost their assistant coach now. When it rains it poors. God they are in the [censored]! Now we can say no matter how bad things get at the dees- there will always be the off season specialists- St Kilda.

    I thought the same

He went from "please don't go" to "is he really that good" in the space of about 24 hours

  9. Well then you and pipe are just as silly as each other.Did you hear one bad word about the club from Jimmy? No.For the slow amongst us who still think Tom Scully is number 31 for Melbourne, the reason the McD situation was bad was because WE STUFFED IT UP. Don't believe me - believe the club, who admitted it.

I'm not saying Jnr had a crack at Melbourne, I just thought his time was up

The direction we were (are) heading, he didn't fit in.

That and the fact he missed 7 weeks with a hammy

  10. Ah J-Mac. I love the guy, but this just shows the makings of a man who doesn't know when to call it quits. The only reason his "retirement" was undignified was because he was unhappy about it. He didnt know the writing was on the wall and the club had to tell him. Now he wants to pull the boots on next year? Come on Jimmy.

    Spot on for mine

  11. You really are a sh*t Melbourne supporter. Actually taking enjoyment in your fellow supporters misery.

Why don't you just drop off?

    +1

    This proves nothing

RFPC conceded many times he may go, just didn't buy into the BS conspiracy.

I'm the same, I think he decided yesterday / this morning, informed the club and here we are

Sad though, some supporters want to take this kick in the guts to gloat, despite the fact they still cannot prove anything

  12. To clarify, I'm not suggesting that the Dees know what Scully is going to decide. And I agree, if they did, there's absolutely no reason why they wouldn't announce it.

It seems to me though, that in this situation the poacher ie, GWS knows more about the likely decision than the vanquished ie, the MFC. Hence, my statement above.

IF Tom Scully had agreed to terms with GWS he would inform MFC ASAP

On your line of thinking, he's possibly decided, but he's not informed the MFC. Cannot see this happening, no player would do this a week after their season had finished (2 if you count Tom didn't play round 24)

Look at all of the signings - the clubs release statements before official announcements

Melbourne have NOTHING to gain right now, in not annoucing it if they know. All the talk of Melbourne making it look "credible" that he "decided" after the season is rubbish. If that was the case, which I don't believe is, they'd would a.) say get stuffed TS and GWS, we owe you nothing b.) 1 week would've been more than enough

They'd owe TS nothing and they'd certainly owe GWS zero. Who honestly believes they'd just graciously allow this to play out to GWS's PR schedule? Who honestly believes if we're good boys and play along, we'll get Patton? Who, seriously?

The more likely scenario IMO IF he's informed the club he intends to sign with GWS, is they've asked for a week to sway him back to MFC (i.e. perhaps an imminent coaching announcement)

  13. Do you actually know this? Or are you guessing?

    He's guessing

MFC would have nothing to lose in announcing last week if they knew, TS would've had a week + to think about it, considering he was injured before the last game, that's plenty of time

The ONLY reason IMO I can see if TS has told MFC he's leaving and we've kept it quiet is because they've asked for a week to convince him otherwise (i.e. potentially a coach appointment to be announced this week etc.)

  14. Because it's not their information to announce. The poacher gets to boast about what they've claimed - not the vanquished.

I hope I'm wrong about this, but I genuinely don't think I am.

And Slooooony - to my mind, you're not covering yourself in glory at the moment. The cliches you're pumping out are boring and unintelligent. Some posters have seemingly heard things (this forum is about such Demon related issues), but out of respect for the discloser we're minded not to put their identity on the web. That's not to suggest the content is not submitted in good faith, or irrelevant to the issue, or untrue. Perhaps this point is too subtle for you at this point in time.

Errrr, Dogs released a statement re Ward hours before GWS

Palmer informing Freo was made public before announcing GWS signing

Davis held a presser with the crows a couple of months ago, his official unveiling was this week

Every incumbent club thus far in the GC / GWS saga has made a statement first

I stand by if MFC knew, we'd know

Until someone gives me a SENSIBLE and LOGICAL reason why we'd hold back, that's my belief

  15. Not 100% sure as it was on in the background at work, they were going through all different rumors that had been heard and that was one. Didn't even go into any detail.

Was later posted on the MFC Facebook page.

Amazing how BS rumours float, considering he's contracted until the end of next year

  16. To be fair this was mentioned on 3AW also a couple of days ago.

    I don't believe it for a second.

Seems the media have the MFC squarely in their sights at the moment.

Out of interest, who was it mentioned by on 3aw?

    A caller?

  17. I've got no idea what he'll do and it will be in the media before I know...

My read is he wants to stay at Melbourne but I look at Ward who grew up next to Whitten Oval and was a bulldogs supporter his whole life and left because the offer was too good to refuse, I can't see how he could knock back the reported offer but I do know for fact the quoted figures of GWS and MFC are not even close to the real offers (they are smaller)

    And there you go
