Danger game in years gone by. When expected to win we would put in an ordinary performance e.g. when Essendon decimated by the doping saga and fielded a reserves team that beat us.

2020's Dee's way better than that, though.

Why are there 2 Friday night games this week anyway?

Probably my darkest day/week as a Dees fan the day of the loss and the week post where I got drilled by every Bombers fan I know...

I’m not sure they are increasing in frequency, @Cards13. What used to be called a “high ankle sprain”, they were viewed from the outside like standard sprains, but took longer. It’s just how they’re reported now that makes them seem more common. Essentially it’s an injury to the ligament that holds the bones together (tibia/fibula) that form the ‘mortice’ grip for the talus (articulating bone of the ankle). Sometimes need surgery, but either way take longer to accommodate to weight-bearing. Impossible to prevent in Australian footy, whereas ‘stirrup-lock’ taping is a good prevention for standard sprains (lateral ligament or talo-fibular ligament). On the Petty injury, it seems likely his calf corky lead to an acute posterior compartment syndrome (bleeding into the connective tissue ‘bag’), which puts other tissues at risk. This would have been released - the ‘bag’ is slit - and thus needs time to heal, with care not to over-work the blood-flow and re-pressure the bag. Not common, but not complicated. Just needs time. Good to see he and Lever back out there.

Thanks Webbs!!! High ankle sprain... interesting, I thought they might have been using a different term previously. I did see an article, was from 2020 that noted that season had a very high number of this injury, might have been an outlier season. It does note it is usually 3-4 per season on ave https://www.afl.com.au/news/463519/injuries-on-the-rise-why-afl-footballers-are-running-the-gauntlet

Funny enough as a 17yr old I had a syndesmosis, I'd never heard of it, was a funny popping feeling in the lower leg and just not being able to get any drive out of it, was a decent recovery time too.

Ps how are the paintings progressing?

@Webber would love your feedback on the dreaded and now seemingly increasing numbers of syndesmosis injuries in the AFL.

The last few years it seems like there are ever increasing numbers of it occurring are there any reasons why that might be the case?

  4. Reliable, relentless and resilient are words I think when thinking of ANB. Ultra consistent now, relentlessly runs up and down the field and no matter how gasping for air he is he will go again and again and again. Kudos to him and the coaches, you wouldn’t trade him for many now.

I must admit that jeremy cameron bloke finds some very innovative ways to stuff up.

    Is he over rated?

Compared to his pay packet… we’ll and truely over rated. He hit a ceiling at GWS and he slide  since, has some moments but for his size and speed he should be a 50+ goal kicker each year. 10 seasons prior to this he’s kicked over 50, 3 seasons ago was the apex at 76.

  7. Rivers knee still not 100%, Gussy hurt his shoulder in that spinorama collision and Smith has hurt fingers on his “good” hand… looks like the injury luck has deserted us.

The make shift defence is holding up well, midfield was slow to start and the fwds not quite able to hold the ball in as needed to keep the pressure on, great goal kicking though.

Can’t wait to see how we “muscle up” this last half.

  8. Gaahh stop making me feel nervous. I was sweet as a nut last week but seeing all of you nervous nelly's...

I've said it in other threads but I'm mainly just fascinated to see how we handle each and every game and in game situation. Last week as I mentioned I said to my mate "this is a massive challenge, can't wait to see how we look to wrest control back and we did it with aplomb. This week, as others have said out ability to keep teams to low scores will hold us in good steed most weeks and this week will be no different. They don't have the defence or maturity in the mids to stick with us the whole game. Dees by 30 - 45.

  9. Love the idea of the fans storming in to celebrate but wowser how easy for him/many to be crushed. The amount of kids on the fence prior to him kicking it, seeing people stumbling as they ran out, seeing Lance’s face and breathing eeekk.

Congrats on the goals, you have give us fans some amazing moments.
