Is the China connection plan a Steve Harris baby? If so, that will be his parting legacy - and I contratulate him on his efforts.
-
Too true! At what stage did he take up the game?
-
These guys are fantastic athletes, and I wouldn't mind betting that people will start taking the China recruiting concept a little more seriously before too long. It will be great to see one of these guys getting a game - It only takes one.

Bruce's knee just soreness - 50-50 for NAB Cup This is music to the ears - Wiping the sweat off my forehead

Yes - Does he keep in touch with Joe Gutnick at all?

Prendergast and the art of Recruiting Thanks for the insight Bazza

I agree with you Rhino, you don't save any money with monkeys in the long run, like anything in life...short cuts don't pay. The question was whether money was a consideration when making the appointment. From memory, they had plenty of time to headhunt the very best if they wanted to, whilst Harris was caretaking. Does anyone have answers to these questions? 1. How much money does the AFL actually hand over to us each year? 2. Does the AFL giving us money, give them any sort of control over or say into our appointments, budgets and other club matters etc?
-
You might be right... time will tell. I did wonder why the guys who listened to yesterday's SEN interview didn't mention it?
-
Yeah, I was a bit suprised when they appointed him after performing a caretaker role. Whilst I have never had a problem with they way he has conducted himself, I suppose the bottom line does the talking. Do you think it is a matter of who we could afford at the time? Was Harris a "value for for money" type appointment?
-
Here we go again..... From Stretcher to Breakthrough Season Is Harris to blame?
-
I'm on the Sunshine Coast so there may be a difference, but my Austar guide shows that it will telecast live at 3.30 on Fox Sport3, so that may be the same in Melbourne.
-
And one thing is for certain, no matter how hard they try and nit pick about certain values and leadership qualities, his performance on the field is what will win him his spot back. He doesn't need to do too much different IMO - he'd have to be one of the most talented talented "footballers" at the club, and DB did say that is what he is looking for.

This certainly explains things.... Green wants back in with Leadership - Herald Sun 31/1/08 Good to see that Brad wants in, and is determined to prove he has what it takes. Guys, what's your opinion of their up front and tell all strategy to leadership? It certainly keeps the leaders accountable, and the other players for that matter. I can see a couple of changes to the leadership group before the year is out.

BP is going to be a beauty!

If that's your preference, then don't participate in the thread - No one asked you to Other members on here have been very fothcoming and insightful

Fair enough, are you speaking for you or all of demonland? To answer your question - It interests me....I get as excited about recruiting and player development as I do about the games - That's just me 12 months a year (not just October) I'm surprised others aren't that interested or willing to comment on Barry's appointment, but that's OK - I can see why To me, every addition the club makes to the staff is a reflection of the club and the direction it is going in. Who we recruit as a recruiting manager, is as important as the players we recruit, because the guys we recruit will be a reflection of him.
-
Very true... My comments were based on some of the views from this thread, which eluded to there being "big shoes" to fill.

I'm surprised at the general lack of enthusiasm and discussion regarding his appointment, and even more surprised that the club themselves haven't made the announcement on the website, instead choosing to promote him as the innovations coach/teacher organising their class room activities. Perhaps they are waiting for the right moment? Is this is a case of people not being able to "move on" from their disappointment surrounding Cameron's departure? If that's the case, go and barrack for Richmond - Get over it! Go Bazza! :D

I can understand your view. Top 8 would be good, but the question is, does the club start out believing that top 8 is their goal, or are they aiming for the top. If the latter is true, you would have to believe it is possible. What do you think we are missing - A good enough list? Where do you draw the line and say...Now our list is ready? ......Baby Bombers type ready?? :D How much worse off is our list now, from the one that took us to the Semi's in '06? Take Port, Kangaroos and Hawthorn....what are the significant differences between the state of their list and ours right now? They all made it fairly deep into September. Port's list took them to the Grand Final, as a result of good coaching, development and instilling that all important belief. OK, they didn't show much more than a whimper when they got there, but they showed that it is possible (only one win away). If you wring every last bit of development out of the players that you can, and believe it is possible - then it is. In my mind, Port played much like a team that didn't believe they could beat Geelong, and were happy just to get there, as if they had already played the result mentally before they even took to the ground. So if you start with a belief that you are only good enough to make the Grand Final but not win it, then that is where you will land. If you start with a belief that you are only good enough to make the 8, then that is where it will end too - That's my view At the very least, surely the club will stay reserved on ruling out any premiership hopes until they have had a chance to see how all of their planning and development unfolds throughout the year? Everything might just fall into place

Thanks Hendo. The Consulting must have been incorporated into his "bench coach' role, as reported in a Roos forum.

Thanks Deanox, I did see all of that debate, and I would probably fit into the 2% - I might revisit it...Naaa - Too depressing....Seeing as I didn't participate back then, here's my view: At the very least Brad can hold his own and contribute something (even a bit of enthusiasm) until the next, more talented big guy comes along - Maybe that will be this year, Here's hoping. I'd hate to think of who we would have to play on a Hall or a Brown if Dutchy wasn't up and running. Takes the pressure of the young guys, and prevents them from being "thrown to the wolves". -
Brad Miller and his appointment

Fair enough, I agree - He needs to be a certain starter and the jury is still out on him. It was mentioned that leaders can go in and out of the group throughout the year, and there would be no reason why something couldn't change after the NAB cup if needed, so I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. -

No they don't - you're right But they do help to set a precedence around the club, and that’s all that Brad is saying You sound as if you feel strongly about this - do you believe he doesn't belong on the list? Or more to do with his appointment?
