  1. I thought that was the coffee and banana bread thread? Anyway, I would like to also remind everybody that this is the great ocean road thread
  2. Craig went to Adelaide early last week for the promotion of the last game at AAMI. Could he have been offered a player development gig at the Crows and is taking Jack Watts with him???
  3. Not really accurate assessment. Crouch is a lot shorter and lighter than Wines. Cripps is this years Wines.
  4. I see that sniper C. Brown is going around again next year. If there is one thing I would like to see other than an improved performance by the Dees next year is that someone, anyone, from any team take this guy out. Good and proper! *Note - the C doesn't stand for Campbell.
  5. Surely gets in the 1's this week on reward alone. Along with Taggert.
  6. Freeman will IMO be the steal of the draft when looking back in a few years time. He exhibited elite traits from as early as the under 16's. http://www.sportingpulse.com/get_file.cgi?id=1471158
  7. http://m.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-22/melbourne-winning-back-trust-garland Well done Col! Strong and consistent improvement bodes well for the next 100 games.
  8. Magner kicked 2 goals against Brisbane last year and had 23 disposals. Brisbane had a very strong midfield in on the day too. Magner scored 2 brownlow votes that day coming second to Simon Black. Some players (albeit rarely) play better footy at the top level. I hope Magner is one of them. Except for the above game Neeld played him as a tagger or defensive forward....... Give him the last 2 games (without a collar on) and let him show us if he worth a spot on the list.
  9. I would say Roos is Brisbane bound. Pearce Hanley just signed a 5 year deal and Roos has some strong Irish connections willing to join him in the sunny state...
  10. Underrated is Neil Craig. I'd be happy with any of the 3 but Craig does have more knowledge of where we are at and is liked by the players as noted above. The only question is if he can retain the OOC players and IMO If they are not sure they should go anyway.
  11. Surprised it took this long for Conca's name to be floated. Hard at it. Reasonable skill level and would be a perfect fit for our midfield as he is 185cm tall and can take a good overhead mark. The only hesitance would be that he is susceptible to foot injuries..... 2012 broken toe, 2013 stress point (hot spot) of the foot.
  12. Posted this on the great ocean road thread but feel it is just as appropriate here. We need to find a coach that works best with our list (and rebuild of) first and foremost. The coach with the best track record doesn't equate to getting and building the best of our list. IMO the 'premiership winning coach' mantra is a fallacy. If a coach is good enough to get a list playing regular prelims & GF's but hasn't tasted victory then he is as good as a coach who has won a GF. Surely other things come into it like, injuries, weather conditions on the big day etc. etc. Like big Arnie said on Pumping Iron. 'The wolf climbing the hill is always hungrier than the wolf on top of the hill'.

  14. One thing is for sure. Wherever Roos ends up the spotlight will be well and truly on him. He knows this. The question is, will he succeed or end up looking like a rabbit in the headlights? An aura has been created around him. I think he is good at coaching but is he really THAT good? Who knows but I have my doubts.
  15. Yep. It's all just one big Roos (sic) !!!
  16. Matthews recruited Johnston. The rest is a fair summation though.
  17. Anyway.... Back on topic. That west coast really is beautiful isn't it. Happy days!
  18. Last preseason they spent too much time doing endurance running. This preseason they need to keep that level of endurance up but concentrate on interval style fitness training (to get that explosiveness you are talking about) and skills, skills and more skills training. One thing we are lacking is momentum when we have the ball. We just don't have any, we are to flat footed. interval type training will improve this part of our game.
  19. Agree. Although, in a well run club with a decent development program I reckon Trengove would have handled the tag of captain quite admirably. Hopefully these mechanisms are finally being put in place.
  20. Unfortunately because of where we are as a club opposition players treat us with contempt. FCS the season is shot. Just get some bloody 'Grinter' into us and clean up some of these snipers eg. Campbell Brown, Sam Mitchell, Daniel Merrett etc. I'm not suggesting blatant acts of violence, just hard, tough, old school footy. I normally wouldn't condone this sort of action but really, what have we got to lose? Certainly not respect.....
  21. His skill and execution are first class. If we can build a strong midfield in the next couple of years Watts will win games off his own boot regularly.
  22. Ok let's play then...You harp on about how we are a rabble and blame everyone from the top down which I, to a certain degree agree with. Then you go on to pot 'a number 2 draft pick who was given leadership responsibilities'. Don't you think that being the youngest captain EVER to play the game in the worst developed team in the comp with a major foot injury to deal with is enough pressure on the kid. There are plenty of people to blame for where we are but Trengove is not one of them.
  23. Agree in part. I am concerned with the development of most of the players and hope it is rectified with this current clean up/out. But I believe Trengove is too good to stay down and will fight his way back. I hope I am correct. He needs to be freed up and allowed to attack in the middle and forward of centre where he is the most dangerous and not play too defensively for that last few games.
  24. You will be eating humble pie with your constant but partly justified grumblings about Trengove. But I know you would like nothing more than that pie to be served to you in the future. I hope you enjoy it when it finally lands on the pass.
  25. Can some people get a grip! FFS!! Trengove was just average but also playing a defensive role and Grimes was our 3rd most effective player. I'm not saying that starred but FCS they were ok. The year is finished (In practical terms) and has been a shocker for all involved inside and outside the club. Everyone just needs to take a deep breath and see what pans out in the coach/trade stakes. Bex anyone?
