Trevor Nisbett had some quite strong thoughts on this kind of incident earlier in the year... "An amateur WA footballer has a broken jaw after an alleged behind-the-play strike that prompted West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett to call for thugs to be marched out of the game. Mr Nisbett, whose two sons play in the WAAFL, said the Eagles sponsored the competition and expected games to be in the “right spirit”. Anyone who engaged in extreme violence should be deregistered. “This is a dreadful incident for guys who just want to go and play and have some fun,” Mr Nisbett said. “Guys don’t sign up for this and if you’re going to go outside the laws of the game, you should be punished with the maximum penalty. “Enough is enough. This has been creeping in for a number of years. It’s not so much the number of incidents but their severity.” ...Awkward.
  2. I think given his age that notion would be promptly dismissed by the AFL. Goodwin's mantra of "When you win the ball on the inside, the outside game comes naturally" rings true, however even when we win that area I still believe we are lacking one forward half distributor in Melksham's mould. Too often when the pressure is ramped up, we bomb away inside 50. It is as clear as day. Someone who lowers the eyes under pressure and can hit a moving forward 50 target is a priority for me in the coming off season.
  3. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-06-15/comment-why-murphy-should-consider-the-dees Any interest in Murphy? 31 next month, doesn't seem like a optimal fit for our list profile however he has elite decision making. Gaff a priority but not against giving Murphy a look in if we don't break the bank in doing so.
  4. Aside from Kelly who will most likely end up at Carlton or stay at GWS, who else would you target? Lever is a star and more importantly a leader. If a player of his calibre wants to come to the club, you get it done
  5. Frost goes at a 76% clip, Hibberd also at 76% and Lever at 81%. I think your evaluation was just based on gut feel, also the 5% disposal efficiency differential between Frost and Lever is misleading due to the fact Frost is a line breaker who takes more risks. Lever takes safe options when disposing of the ball which is great but it's a poor comparison with a player like Frost. I think the talk of Frost being a pure athlete is over hyped.
  6. Just read that Sam Reid is out of contract at the end of the season as well. Some KPF help for Jesse would be great while Weid develops
  7. Agreed he looked great yesterday, especially after Salem went down. His attack on the ball and man was a feature... composed with ball in hand and a similar size to Garland. I like the kid
  8. I don't get the negativity, with Cross gone we need another established mid/half back. Pick 25 is a lottery, at least we know what we are getting with Melk...tackles hard, is pretty quick, and has room for improvement. Nice one FD
  9. Won't get past the Saints at Pick 5 I wouldn't have thought.
  10. I have a contact that worked for Collingwood last season in a match analyst role. He told me that Bucks didn't rate Kennedy's defensive work rate. Looks great with ball in hand but has a long way to go as a two way runner
  11. You make an interesting point with the examples you used. I was alluding to the fact that the notion of a draft being labelled strong or weak before any of the kids have set foot into an AFL environment is an overrated concept, in my opinion. If you have a look at Fyfe as an U/18 v Fyfe now, he's hardly recognisable both in physique and the role he plays. Additionally, Toumpas looked a million bucks pre draft and has failed to translate that form to the AFL.
  12. Fair enough. I wouldn't have thought him being an option for membership cards will have any bearing on whether or not he will be traded. If we get a strong offer once the trade period kicks off, I don't think we would hesitate to pull the trigger - just my opinion of course. Thanks for the information though
  13. Agree with Al's Demons, every year there is speculation surrounding the 'strength' of the draft pool. Every year there are gems that pop up out of nowhere like Parker at 40, Swan at 70 odd. The strength of the draft is a complete mystery until at least 3-4 years after it happens. Back to Watts, I'm not a fan. I think he is skilled...but his intensity around the contest is not up to AFL standard. I'd take a pick between 15-30 for him. I doubt we will get any takers. A colleague of mine who is part of an AFL recruiting team said he wouldn't take him for free, go figure.
  14. Watts doesn't play tall. He never has. For someone of his height he is an awful contested mark - I dare say Jesse has taken more contested marks in his first season than JW has in his entire career. He's nothing more than an awkward sized, soft, outside mid.
  15. Where is all this Kennedy talk coming from? Have I missed something? Are we now just saying superstars at random and what each of them would add to the MFC?
  16. Was the Franklin deal the most ridiculous and damaging list management move in recent memory? They signed him for nine years and he looks (somewhat) cooked after two.
  17. Officially requested a trade... Essendon's Jake Melksham has informed the Bombers that he will be seeking a move in the upcoming trade period. List and Recruiting Manager, Adrian Dodoro, said the Club will ensure it secures appropriate compensation if a suitable trade can be agreed. “Jake is a talented young midfielder with more than a hundred games experience and we’re extremely disappointed in his decision to seek a trade,” Dodoro said.
  18. Why? It would mean he doesn't have to pack up his life and move interstate. The hatred between Crows and Port is a childish media beat up. Various players/coaches have made the switch.
  19. How would anyone possibly know this? I doubt the two clubs have even had a discussion, and better yet, that any sensitive information would be leaked directly to the radio show running this circus.
  20. It wasn't me who sent the e-mail. But yes it's great that Roos engages the members like he does
  21. Received some mail that Kelly O'Donnell was having a close look at the dogs Michael Talia at the VFL on the weekend. KPD, Out of contract at years end, showed some promising signs during the course of the season but like many young talls is still learning the craft. Could be worth a late rounder
  22. Disagree, has failed to cement his spot in a team that prides itself on quick ball movement and hitting leading forwards. Goes missing too often and for too long. Would rather punt on the draft and develop from within
  23. Haha. Well Treloar has nominated the Pies and the general consensus is that Danger is off to Geelong. I wouldn't say I'm negative, just realistic about our ability to sign top end talent over our better resourced and more successful competitors.
  24. Watts doesn't play tall. Prestia has ruled out a move to us, and O'Meara won't be going anywhere. Think we have missed out on all the top end talent available this time around (as usual). We aren't an attractive destination at present and won't be until we are playing finals consistently.
  25. He won't be coming to us, but in fantasy land he'd actually fill a really important role for us off half back. Tomlinson would be great and I hope Dom and Frosty are getting in the ears of some of these homesick GWS kids.
