According to this article we have nominated him  afl-draft-2022.

Interestingly it shows the latter rounds of the drafted truncated to a few teams.  Not sure the logic behind it.  But anyway, it shows our picks as 13, 37, 78 (round 5) and 83 (round 6).

While it was reported we would take two players at the draft (and promote Chandler with our last pick) there is scope to take F-EB with pick 78.

Edit:  I have reservations about the accuracy of the listed NGA nominations as it lists Keeler as Adelaide's nominee and they have chosen to not nominate him albeit he was eligible.

Also, they have shown Kyah Farris-White as an NGA nominee but he joined us as a B-rookie.

So NGA nominations are still bit of a mystery.

No offence to Fox News but I would rather see confirmation of this on the AFL site.

From the Herald Sun this morning:

    MELBOURNE

    Picks: 13, 37

Mick Ablett says: After a disappointing exit in the 2022 finals series, expect a

statement to come early in 2023. With the most potent ruck duo arguably since

Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui, the Demons’ engine room will get plenty of supply. Targeting

some firepower to assist Bailey Fritsch and Kysiah Pickett is paramount and the only area

Melbourne has to address before another September assault.

Draft Prediction: Matt Jefferson could come into calculations for their first pick.

He averaged 2.2 goals during his NAB League season, along with kicking a standout seven

goals straight against Western Australia in the under-18 national championships. At 195cm he is a strong lead-up forward. Sam Gilbey should be on the board at their second pick and would provide some class by foot off halfback.

Wow. Talk about going out on a limb with that draft prediction. Jefferson - who would have thought?

Still, I have always had the distinct impression we hitched our star to Tom Lynch, who then ended up going to Gold Coast a pick earlier. Lucas Cook was a hastily-hatched ill-considered back-up plan based off his AA credentials and little more. But we were also hamstrung by the lack of quality alternatives available once our preferred choices were gone.

The fact of the matter is that Cook was selected as the All Australian CHF off the back of some very solid form at Under 18 level while Lynch had only recently shown draft worthy form. At the time, it looked like a solid drafting decision but after one training run, he was cooked (pun intended).

    Finn Emile-Brennan
    Height: 181cm
    Weight: 62kg

    D.O.B: 07-05-200

    STRENGTHS
    + Kicking
+ Speed
+ Rebounding

    IMPROVEMENTS:

    - Strength/size
- Versatility

“Finn Emile-Brennan is a Melbourne Next-Generation Academy member, and a small running defender. He has some outstanding traits that catch the eye, but at 64kg, the Dandenong small still has a way to go to compete against senior bodies. One benefit of Emile-Brennan's game is that he is quite often the chosen distributor, with his kicking ability among the best of the crop.

At times, Emile-Brennan can bite off more than he can chew by looking for that 45-degree pass, and he is inconsistent in terms of his impact per game, but when he is on, he can certainly influence a match. He has that speed and evasion combination, but the fact he is quite light and raw, as well as not having played much outside the defence, the Vic Country representative is expected to slip outside the first 40 picks.

That is good news for Demons fans, who should be able to add Emile-Brennan to the mix if Melbourne opt to do so. He has high upside for his strengths, and though likely a long-term prospect, he still competed for Vic Country at the AFL Under 18 Championships. Naturally he is a very outside player, with just three of his 32 possessions at the carnival being in a contest, but he fortunately uses it well when given time and space.”

We should be able to charge a fair premium for pick 13 that would see us receive a 2nd rounder this year on top of a future first.

An example might be West Coast keen on adding 13 to go with 8 and 12 which might see them take 3 of Ginbey, Busslinger, Allen, Hewett if they stick with WA talent.

Eagles don't usually stay down the bottom for long and having 11 home games should see them avoid bottom 4 and perhaps more willing to trade out futures.

Pick 13 out for West Coast future 1st and pick 20 or 26 would be a great option if we don't have a player we are particularly keen on available at our first selection.

Don't think they'll go for it though.

    I think that’s a stretch but 13 & 37 for 20 & 26 is almost a perfect match in terms of points.

  6. Why not? Max Gawn was drafted by the club while recovering from an ACL injury while Christian Petracca injured his very early on in his first pre season. Both are premiership players and the early setbacks didn’t prevent them from becoming All Australians.

I’d like to think also that the faith the club placed in them during those dark times when they went through the long process of recovery helped create that bond and loyalty between club and player that led to them entering long term contracts further down the track as their careers unfolded.

I wonder if we can leverage another teams delusion about next year into swapping pick 13 for a Future First and potential top 10 pick next year? Perhaps Ross Lyon thinks he can turn the Saints into a contender next year and our Pick 13 this year helps him 'add another piece' around what he's got. We can fast track his quick exit out of the game if we win that trade! Hinkley, Beveridge, MacCrae and next years fixture - we have a whole host of coaches and a media that are overrating lists for next season. It's low risk high reward, considering pick 13 won't affect our premiership tilt next season.

    Let’s not get too cocky.

We should be aiming to improve our list every year and given we gave virtually nobody new a chance to play AFL this year, it might be a risky strategy going forward.

87kgs at 185cms is chonky for an 18yo - does George's size give him an advantage at U18 level that may not translate at AFL level?

Not sure how you define “chonky” but I recall one Luke Hodge who fitted that description when he was drafted and I reckon it didn’t do him any harm (although he did tone his body a bit once he got into the AFL).

Brisbane will use up it picks 34,35 and 36 to land F/S Ashcroft so our Pick 37 will become a pick in the low 30's presumably.

Now is the time to start taking notice of the phantom drafts which should take these into account.

  10. In the Eastern Football League Premier Division, the B & F was won by a former Melbourne rookie Max King. He tied with a player from Norwood (the Melbourne suburban club, not the one from the SANFL).

The Division 2 medal was won outright by another former Melbourne AFL and Casey Demons VFL player, Tim 'Bull' Smith, now at South Belgrave.
