Rachele looks amazing. I’m not sure as to whether he would fit into Melbourne’s thinking but he might end up at Gold Coast with pick 3 (after the father/sons 5).

James Jordon.
Good get. He was pick 33 in the 2018 draft but didn’t get an AFL game until this year.

Why are they getting the advantage and we are not ? I have forgotten the rationale about the NGA but Dsicos and Darcy are under Father/Son.
Because clubs whinged and whined about compromising the draft and the advantage to the Bulldogs in drafting Ugle-Hagen at pick one so the AFL did something about it. Clubs are now prevented from matching bids on NGA’s in the top 20 (next year it goes to 40). Personally, I think that’s a gross over- reaction.

Obviously Sam Weideman needs to step up on the past few years so he needs a big season.
I think Bailey Laurie after missing most of 2021 and not playing much in 2020 due to Covid-19 has to also have a big pre season, get really fit and bull up to put himself in the frame for selection.

I'm still a annoyed we recruited him. We could have selected Dylan Grimes who Richmond grabbed with the next pick.
Dean Bailey seemed frustrated that we missed out on Luke Ball so McDonald was presented as a "gun" recruit instead of the plodder that he really was.
What a sliding doors moment that would have been for Dylan Grimes and the family. Jack was getting established with the club and the Grimes clan were committed Demon fans but that rookie draft selection of Dylan was significant because he’s become a triple premiership player with Richmond while Macdonald was at best serviceable over a much shorter space of time. Another bad choice of player in a sad and regrettable time in the club’s history.

I think Geelong are finally on their way down and will hit the floor with a bit of a thud in the very near future.

Will he be one of the players being tested for the draft at Sandringham next Monday?

We certainly need another ruck.
The article on Woewodin also refers to Josh Cripps and says he “would love to play in the AFL alongside his brother, Carlton captain Patrick”.

Good luck to Deakin. College sport in the USA is a big deal. They attract big crowds and the larger colleges get nationwide exposure on tv. Hope to see him soon on ESPN.

Just take the example of Christian Petracca who isn’t resting on his laurels and training himself to get better. That demonstrates his attitude to improvement. The younger set need to respond and do likewise.

I have no doubt Sparrow and JJ will be "better" than Dunstan at some point in the future.
Already are - both premiership players.

Good if we could get Neville Jetta's brother and his father to play like we did against Carlton :)

That’s Collingwood’s Lynch to Hawthorn. No effect on the Cats’ average age.
I don’t understand this. Lynch is a damn good ruckman. Possibly the only one who had the better of Max Gawn all year.

Blast from the past Colin Wisbey on the Collingwood In Black n White Board when mention was made that the Pies had put in an offer for Hill … “player who thus far gets little ball, kicks few goals & tank good for only 50% or so gametime.”

They being JT or the club? The club, no doubt heavily based up JT's recommendation but not in a vacuum - clearly made the decision for Brayshaw, who Paul Roos loved. The pressing need was to beef up the midfield quickly rather than draft a young tall and Lever's ACL probably sealed the decision too. But having seen JT since use pick 3's on Oliver and Jackson I'd like to know if it wasn't for the clubs situation who he would've taken.
The club put on a function for a small group of supporters a few days before the draft. JT and Todd Viney spoke. It was very clear that in their view it was between McCartin, Petracca and Brayshaw followed by daylight and Jake Lever wasn’t in the top ten. I don’t think Lever was even mentioned. Most of us left the evening believing we were going to take McCartin.
Happy to get views from others who were there.

Jack Williams looked good as a young developing Forward who had the height to also be a 2nd ruckman. Interesting to see whether we do invest in another young key forward. I’m still looking for pace and run and the best midfielder in pick 17 slot. But like JVR, Williams presents a good option for JT ⭐️ to consider.
The problem in assessing yesterday’s game was the fact that both sides missed 3 or 4 top players which meant an automatic diminishing of the standard of football which was not helped by the windy conditions at an open ground. I don’t think Thebarton Oval was such a good venue and assume the Adelaide Oval is being prepared for cricket.
If you’re looking for a ruck prospect, none of the ones on show yesterday would qualify IMO. Williams would be a part timer at best - like TMac or Weed. When the two states played a month ago, WA’s ruckman looked ok but nowhere near as good a prospect as Toby Conway of Geelong Falcons who is the best of the young crop and I reckon would be available in the mid 20s.

Late in the draft period the media guys usually get the top ten pretty close and then it veers away from there. Logical really because the top five or so usually stand out and the next five aren’t that far behind. It’s after then that the discrepancies occur. Often this happens with players who are difficult to categorize. Mac Andrew is one of those players because he’s so different to the usual draft prospects that we see. Have we ever seen such a raw project player feature so high in draft calculations before?

Because I think a key forward or another gun outside midfielder is a suitable need for us then a ruckman?
That doesn't mean that he still wont go top 10.
If someone is most certainly top ten then you really have to be “certain”. There are 18 clubs and they all have at least 4 or 5 on their recruiting staff. Using your criteria, there might be more than 50 players who are top ten.
And none of that means he still would make top 10.

It’s going to be interesting to see what Fremantle can get from GWS for Rory Lobb. If they don’t want to pay part of his wages then you would expect that they wouldn’t expect much.

With a week to go in this trade period, it’s clear that there’s scope for plenty more deals even though so much is moving at snail’s pace.
Who would have thought that Melbourne could have found a well-credentialed depth player who cost it nothing and then took a place in the first round of the national draft?
On top of that, you would think that there’s still the possibility of more movement whether it be on the player front or in terms of draft picks.
The extent of that action is partly tied up with its out of contract players. As of a couple of days ago, they were believed to be Oskar Baker, Toby Bedford, Majak Daw ® (UFA), Kade Chandler ®, Kye Declase ®, Michael Hibberd, Marty Hore, Deakyn Smith ®, Daniel Turner ® and Aaron vandenBerg. The word is that Baker, Bedford, Daw and Hibberd will/have been offered contact extensions while vandenBerg is testing the market and now, Chandler is in discussions with the Crows. I would expect at least one if not both of our mid season draft picks to have their terms extended - they hardly had the opportunity to show their wares in the truncated VFL season (in fact, they each played only 4 matches with Casey) and they deserve more.
However, the extent to which Melbourne can trade players in will depend partly on whether it leaves some players out. The ultimate size of the list is finite. Still, the club’s recruiters and list managers have shown themselves to be resourceful so we have another week of following their moves (in between viewing replays of our finals achievements).
And bang! Seven players all signed up in one day including Kade Chandler.- 1

Didn’t we do a similar thing last year when we dropped James Jordon off the senior list and then rookied him. It sounded like a smart move to enable us to have an extra pick in the main draft but could it also have backfired?
