Williamstown scores the first goal at the northern end after a Casey player handballs in the direction of a teammate's foot. -

Snap from 50m and Willy stretches its lead to 35 points and then just to cap things off, another turnover (the word of the quarter) results in a goal to Williamstown on the siren. Score 10.12.72 to 4.6.30. Yes, there is a bit of a wind but Casey's style of play is also a major contributor. -

Twenty-one minutes into the game, the mistakes continue and for the last 10 minutes there hasn't been a player in Casey's forward half. This stuff is virtually unwatchable. -

Ball turned over, only a point this time. The Willi players on the bench are having a bit of a giggle. -

Another passage of play where a turnover from Casey gifts Willi a goal. This is awful stuff. -

After numerous turnovers Casey concede another goal. This is ordinary looking stuff. Oops ... another snap and suddenly Willi leads 50 - 30. -

The first two goals of the quarter to Willi who are back in front by 8 points. -

Whispering Jack's half time exclusive. Paul Roos is here with his two sons (I think). They just ordered sausage rolls and chips from the canteen and bought a pack of lollies (snakes?). I hope the club nutritionist isn't here as well. Tony Elshaugh's hanging around, presumably spying for St. Kilda. -

Half time and Casey kept the visitors scoreless while scoring four goals. Nicholson kicked a goal coming down from defence, earned a 50m penalty and kicked truly. The story of the day is the form of Max Gawn in the ruck. Getting better as the game goes on and now we need to see if he comes out after half time and is capable of reproducing that for 100 minutes. Casey 4.6.30 to Williamstown 3.7.25 [Disclaimer: I'm one of Max's sponsors but that hasn't coloured my view.] -

Tim Smith, the only tall forward gets Casey's third and suddenly it's a two point game. -

At last a goal to Casey through Nathan Page. Scorps 1.5.11 Willi 3.7.25 after 17 minutes into the second quarter. Pickles Evans is playing well and Casey gets its second in a minute, this time through recruit Ed Morris. -

Williamstown exerting extreme pressure with their tackling and crowding the Casey forward line. Ten minutes in and Casey still goalless. -

Ran straight down the race but it could be a precaution. Don't expect to see him line up next week against St. Kilda. -

Quarter time and after scoring the first two points, Casey have gone into a shell and most of the game is being played in Willi's half. Casey 0.2.2 Williamstown 3.7.25 Max Gawn has been good when in the ruck and around the ground and Nev Jetta has done well in defence but poor disposal has led to continual turnovers. Like last week's game with Melbourne there doesn't seem to be anybody in the forward line. The coach has a lot of work to do with this team. -

Jack Viney received a knock to the head under a pack, went off, came back and off again. Looks like a mild concussion but it's a bit of a worry because he missed some of the pre season with much the same thing. Casey 0.2.2 Williamstown 1.3.9 - lots of turnovers and untidy football. -

Familiar name for Williamstown is former Demon Ryan Ferguson. Showing out early with a course of nice clean possessions is Christian Salem. -

Down here at Cranbourne and the Casey Scorpions Development League 2.4.16 lowered their colours to Williamstown 22.15.147. That follows last week's single goal effort against Box Hill Hawks suggesting the team's young and inexperienced and the Scorps will lack depth in 2014. The team sheets for the Casey Development League team:- 2. Jackson Anderson 3. Pat Rosier 4. Sam Waters 9. Nick Lang 11. Lachie Meadows 15. Sean Corrigan 16. Ryan Morrison 18. Brenton Hillard 19. Whispering_Jack replied to Rod Grinter Riot Squad's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not that I want to fuel the debate on his medical condition but the fact that Clark was given leave of absence from last night's proceedings was not a good sign from the club whose coach went to great lengths to emphasize that the night was primarily for the players. I've always been a Clark optimist but at this point, I'm not holding my breath about the possibility of seeing him play before June at the earliest, irrespective of the return date against his name on the club's injury list. -
Somebody asked me last week, what would it take to make me change my allegiance to the Melbourne Football Club and I answered that I didn't believe that it was possible. After all, I've lived through the 22 seasons in between 1964 and 1987 during which time we were an on field basket case for most of the time, witnessed some crushing grand final losses in 1988 and 2000 and endured the final moments of the 1987 preliminary final. Went through the debilitating losses of the past few seasons, the tanking season, the inquisition that followed and the division in the ranks leading up to the club's humiliating year in 2013. I stuck fat and unbelievably, so did a capacity crowd in the MCC dining room last night (along with many on the waiting list who left it till too late to book) and the 30k supporters who have already signed up as members and hopefully, the many more who are yet to join. I'm under no illusions as to the hard road that lies ahead, particularly in view of the continuing (mystery) injury saga inflicting our best tall forwards and ruckmen. Hopefully, the mixture of patience and optimism that I have for the club and which was reinforced by Paul Roos' words last night translate into something substantive that rewards our faith in the red and the blue. I can't think of anything that might shake my belief in my club, but this former fan of another club has decided that the time has come - Going West
