Melbourne asks for draft assistance
Whispering_Jack replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
The issue shouldn't be so complex. Ten wins in three seasons and all of those unusual setbacks in such a short period of time should be enough to satisfy the criteria. -

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Whispering_Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
ASADA is under no compulsion to provide the players with the evidence gathered from the investigation but it did so in the case of the NRL as it is now doing with these players. In that case, ASADA also offered the players a deal and a deadline to accept. It will be interesting to see whether the AFL players receive offers and if so what they are. We need to remember the fact differences between the two investigations were significant. The Essendon programme was far more wide-ranging in terms of its scope, the number of players injected and the length of time it ran so the NRL deals are not necessarily indicative of what will happen if anything with the Bombers. -
A hint from Paige Cardona's tweet - @paigecardona: Patrick Dangerfield might just be the first Melbourne player to win the Brownlow in 14 years... #seewhatididthere #brownlow

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Whispering_Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
I believe the players are hanging out because they want ASADA to produce the evidence it has against them. They need to be careful about what they ask for because ASADA might well trump them by agreeing to their wishes but adding that they might have blown some brownie points and time off sentences for not co-operating. -
Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Whispering_Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
According to this STATEMENT FROM THE AFL PLAYERS' ASSOCIATION, the majority of the 34 players aren't looking at making deals. Whilst I believe that its in the players' interests to accept any deal that would limit their sanctions to half a season or less in terms of games missed, I can understand their positions and, as a member of the public, welcome a full hearing where all of the evidence and the facts would come out. In that case, bring it on! -

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Whispering_Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Players distancing themselves from the club's legal action to ensure that if there is a deal to be done, they can still say they co-operated. Problem is that in the context of gettng a discount, co-operation means doing so to the point where they assist ASADA in achieving a sanction against another person or organisation. They're not exactly doing that, are they? -

Caro is supposed to be the font of all knowledge on everything but, as I said above, that suggestion simply beggars belief. I wonder where she got the information? -
Melbourne asks for draft assistance
Whispering_Jack replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
There's every chance that the AFL might be asked to give Essendon special assistance in the near future to help them get a team on the ground. It can hardly give the Bombers help in circumstances where the AFL has already sanctioned that club in view of the attitude it took against Melbourne last year when the clubs objected because of our involvement in the tanking dispute. It can only give Essendon help if it provides assistance in some form to us. -
Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Whispering_Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Caroline Wilson's mail is that the 34 players served in June with show cause notices are now ready to entertain plea bargains with ASADA ~Essendon players ready to listen to ASADA deal offers Such a move by the players affected would be very smart, but I would be gobsmacked if this revelation was correct:- This simply does not make any sense at all. When the show cause notices were served, it was reported that the players were offered a six month suspension deal which appeared extremely generous in view of the fact that the maximum penalty is 2 years. I don't recall any mention then of a four week plus finals ban (the Bombers were no certainties to make the finals in June) and, at the time, there were ten home-and-away games left in the season so the four game scenario simply wouldn't fit the six month suspension on offer. The suggestion that an ASADA deal to the 34 players would entail an off season suspension or the loss of at most only four home-and-away games is either wishful thinking or the result of enormous political pressure on McDevitt from high above. Such an outcome would constitute a rewriting of the definitions of "no fault" and"significant assistance" and a massive reward for the Bombers' (admittedly expensive) strategy of delaying the ASADA investigation for the second half of the AFL season to buy a brilliant result for their players. The example set would come back to haunt ASADA and anti doping agencies the world over for many years to come. -
2014 Player Review - # 41 Alexis Georgiou

Timely that Georgiou is highlighted today. This time last year, he played in a premiership team with the SANFL Redlegs, Norwood who won the premiership again today making it a threepeat. -

Final score: Norwood 12.10.82 to Port Adelaide 11.12.78 Two in a row to the Redlegs. I never thought the day would come when Juice Newton would play in a premiership team wearing the red and blue. -
This is how Nudge and Chilliboy would do it - Here's what I've heard, and make of it what you will... Sensational news from Visy Park where Carlton is believed to be prepared to trade Bryce Gibbs who has had a falling out with the club. My information comes from the Blues' bootstudder who sat next to me on the train home last night. The club's new CEO is fielding an offer for from Melbourne which is prepared to offload three former top 20 draft picks in Sam Blease, James Strauss and Luke Tapscott who have all asked for a trade and a fourth rounder to seal the deal. The Demons have also enquired with the Hawks about the possibility of bringing utility Kyle Cheney back to the fold in exchange for small forward Shannon Byrnes who this week announced he has reconsidered the decision he made earlier this season to retire. Hawthorn is looking for insurance to cover for injury prone Cyril Rioli in the event that his hamstring issues continue to bubble over into 2015.

THE BREATH OF LIFE - DRAFT ASSISTANCE
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
A par in the Sunday Herald Sun suggesting we won't get special draft assistance when the AFL Commission meets on Monday night but that the issues involved will help get us across the line in the James Frawley free agency compensation. Of course this would be wrong in so many ways if it's true. Firstly, the decision is supposed to be made by a meeting of the AFL Commission on the night. The suggestion that the result has been predetermined has a bad odour surrounding it. Secondly, the issues of FA and draft concessions should not be conflated. Frawley hasn't announced his decision yet so they should not be considered or dealt with together. What happens if Frawley decides to stay? Finally, based on the figures of the Freo and Geelong offers being bandied about, we would be entitled to band 1 compensation got Frawley anyway so the whole suggestion is a sop. Let's hope the article is yet another example of inept journalism rather than corruption at the highest level of the sport. Surely, that's not possible? -

Chargers claim premiership

Paul Ahern of Calder would go nicely. He has a bit of that X Factor, he runs, finds the ball well and is a good kick. De Goey is a hard working player whose a footballer. They're both mid first rounders and I don't think either of them is what you would call a midfielder at the moment but a couple of seasons under Roos and they could easily be A Graders.
-
Having watched the TAC Cup grand final, I would have to say that it we traded our top picks for quality players and ended up with a couple of mid first round selections then getting the likes of Paul Ahern and Jordan De Goey, that wouldn't be bad going either.

It's all over with a big 47 point win to the Oakleigh Chargers. Toby McLean kicks the sealer (and is another with an appalling haircut). Houston follows that up with another rocket.

Oakleigh's Houston gives Calder a problem - marks and goals to take a 31 point lead.
