  1. Firstly, on the vision, I think it's worthwhile checking them out - I've also found while doing some research on players that sometimes the links no longer work after a while. Secondly, the point about us getting the top three mids if we take Parish is the best three available to us so obviously, getting the best of the academy players is outside that range. The club is holding an information evening for one of the supporter groups which I'm in during the last week before the draft. There was a similar one last year where Jason Taylor and Todd Viney were as open and as frank as they could possibly be i.e "the best three players are Brayshaw, McCartin and Petracca [no particular order]. St Kilda will take one and we'll take the other two". I hope that they will be able to tell us something similar in two week's time.
  2. I posted my concerns about the hair on Facebook last week. It certainly looms as a major issue in respect of the difficult decision the recruiting team is faced with over the next few weeks. My solution was that if we take him with pick #3 then Josh Mahoney's first task should be (preferably before they leave Adelaide after draft night) to take him to a barber for a #3 haircut. Problem solved. [PS: I've subsequently discovered that if we bid #3 for say Callum Mills and force Sydney to take that player in response to our bid, then our pick would be #4 and in that event, the blades to be used for the haircut would be #4.]
  3. Hey Dazzle. Can I suggest you wait till you finish that three year course in Human Physiology before you answer any more questions on the subject.
  4. Yep. Hope you're right - also I think the club has more resources and better personnel available to put into development and there's no hurry to bring on first year players these days. Things might well have been different for the Toump had he walked into the club in November 2015 instead of 2012.
  5. He's certainly a favourite with me and even more so after reviewing the vision of his games for Vic Country in the national champs. I'm sure if he comes to Melbourne he will get a good grounding under the current coaching regime but I suspect that he won't end up as a defender. He's too good for that and besides, the only disappointing game I've seen from him is the one v SA at Simonds Stadium where he was played off half back and was rather subdued as if he had to contain his usual flair. He was kept down to 9 possessions and was brushed aside a couple of times by Aaron Francis but there were enough positives from his limited amount of touches to know that he is going to be a very good player. I haven't been so excited about a potential draftee since Jimmy Toumpas ... oh.
  6. Settle down folks ... please stay on topic
  7. Funnily enough, the bolded part reminds me very much of the words that a prominent person within the TAC Cup system once used to describe Cameron Ling back in his early days as a player with the Geelong Falcons. How did that turn out?
  8. For the next 6½ hours it's still Saturday.Have I missed something?
  9. Is he the bloke who sounds like he's been inhaling helium?
  10. Finished 3rd and paid $2.80 for the place. When does it run next Redleg?
  11. I spent two years between the ages of 2 and 4 at Elmore where the family had a textile farm so it's the place of my earliest memories. The bridge over the railway station and picnics by the river. How does it look these days?
  12. Draft Profile: Darcy Parish
  13. Redleg, at what point do we start the draft countdown?
  14. If we hang on to pick 6 I don't believe we would take Weideman but if we trade out and end up with a pick in the mid teens, there's a chance that this might happen. Our priority is to get a midfielder and pick 6 in the draft would give us a crack at a highly touted mid. If, on the other hand, we trade the pick then it's likely that we would have done so to get a good midfielder and that would leave it open for us to look to a different choice with our first (albeit later) pick.
  15. Dom Barry is his name.I also believe that as a result of all of the machinations involved in the dealings involved was that we were able to take Jack Viney with our second round pick and not our first which would have cost us pick 4 (Jimmy Toumpas).
  16. The crux of the matter dazzle is that you weren't the only one who was asleep. Most of the other clubs were asleep during that era and even those recruiters who understood what the Swans were doing at the time were sceptics so by the time the world woke up to what was happening, the horse had bolted and this sort of recruiting is now commonplace among clubs that have to rebuild their lists. In any event, you can't do it by relying on the draft alone which is the mistake Melbourne made during the Bailey rebuild - a mistake compounded in that time by our failure both to pick the right players and to develop them the right way. And after witnessing Melbourne's record over the years with landing "big fish", starting with Moore and Templeton in the 80s all the way to Clark in 2011, that doesn't necessarily do the trick either.
  17. Just as I thought. Had you picked as a closet Hawthorn supporter!
  18. I posted some Melksham highlights from the 2009 TAC Cup Grand Final on the TAC Cup thread. Melksham was arguably BOG in that game and it's clear from the package that he was something of a talent back then. I haven't been a big follower of Essendon on field but something obviously happened with Melksham in the past couple of seasons. I suppose that I'm speculating but it was Melksham who was named as one of the prime examples of Bomber players ... ahem ... "bulking up" big time in early 2011 when whatever unknown substances were apparently injected into 34 players at the club and perhaps the constant adverse publicity surrounding the saga has taken its toll. It could be that a change of scenery will do him the world of good if the chips fall his way at CAS.
  19. Paige Cardona sums up the situation pretty well as Bomber fans are doing high 5s about Melksham's pending departure:-
  20. Saints have delisted a few - no doubt will cause a proliferation of new threads but this is it according to news.com.au
  21. There are plenty of individual examples that might prove the point about NQR recycled players wrong but the one given above was a virtual across the board scenario which wouldn't appeal to me.
  22. I'd like to think that our list management team can achieve a much better outcome than that.
  23. Are you a friend of the Tremeloes, Mr OD?

As a long time fan of the 49ers (whatever happened to Candlestick Park?) I'm gratified to see they're opening the season in Demon colours!!!
