It had been less than 24 hours since learning his coach whom he and his teammates love and respect had been sacked and you wanna read a level of complacency into his comments? Poor Ed was probably still shocked and had yet to get his head around it. You say it speaks to the level of comfort of the playing group under Goodwin. I say it speaks to the sadness and shock of the playing group immediately upon learning of the loss of Goodwin.

At least three players were wide awake and found out while scrolling on their phones. One found out when his mate told him he heard about it on the radio.

Should he have passionately said “YES! THE BOARD IS SPOT ON… WE NEED A NEW VOICE!!” Would that have fit the brief? Never mind that this isn’t how he feels.
