Xander McGuire being a sideline “reporter” this year remains just an awe inspiring display of nepotism.

“1 lousy flag” has to make it into the Demonland “hot takes” Hall of Fame. I’m having a good chuckle to myself imagining demons supporters crying tears of joy after waiting a lifetime to see the Dees make it to the pinnacle of the sport and you’re just like “who cares it’s one lousy flag!”

I like the changes.

Someone else mentioned this on another thread but it feels like Trac is going to be the captain next year and he knows it.

Yeah I’m in the same boat. I want to believe this is the (horrific) “growing pains” of a new gameplan that we can see glimpses of occasionally. But then I go back to the fact that so many of the players don’t seem to be giving much effort...which can’t be explained away by “growing pains.”

I appreciated that he came out and said something. Rather have that than silence. However I did have to laugh that we are such a bin fire that it’s only 5 games into the season and we’ve already gotten a “don’t panic!” letter.

You know things are going really well when you get a Monday morning letter from the club’s interim president trying to provide reassurances. 😆

Yep. As someone who works in the PR/comms space I’m not outraged at the sentiment I’m more disappointed at the really poor writing that, as @praha mentioned, is potentially even AI generated.

When the umpiring is this lopsided it’s just a matter of time. Not that we’ve been incredible or anything.

Well, I can tell you from firsthand experience that the Malaysian Soccer League (which starts their games at 9 pm and features the national police academy team in the top tier) has better officiating than this absolute farce of a league.

Despite witnessing that GC beatdown last weekend, in the past 5 days I’ve somehow convinced myself that we might win this. I am a delusional moron. Sports are so dumb. Go Dees.

At this point I don’t think there is a team we could select that half the posters on Demonland wouldn’t have an issue with.

I would 100% rather be us than Carlton at the moment. Their top 5-6 players have been solid and the rest of their list is shocking. Our top 5-6 players have been way out of form but the younger guys on our list can clearly play. It’s ugly for us at the moment but we still have a promising future…they certainly don’t. And they don’t have a first round pick this year either.

Yeah I take your point but I think recovery is mental too—I’m guessing a sports psychologist or one of the mindset people they brought in may have suggested a mental break (like soccer) might be a good way to change things up.

48 hours since you’ve been through a gruelling physical endurance test where you’re constantly being tackled at full sprinting speed by other massive grown men? How dare you try to build camaraderie and cohesiveness through activities that let your body recover before you go through that brutality again just days from now. Ugh how disgraceful.

I love how everyone assumes that just because it’s not happening in full public view, Goody hasn’t had plenty of tough conversations or that they aren’t practicing the game plan or their skills or that they won’t train hard this week etc.

The last 3 years including 2022 and 2023 when we finished top 4? For supporters of a club that has been so disappointing historically speaking, we sometimes seem to really struggle to recognise how insanely difficult it is in this current era to sustain success while also trying to evolve a complex game plan and maintain a strong player list.

We aren’t near that calibre but I don’t think it’s stupid to say that when a team comes into a season with a new game plan they might look awful for awhile until things start to click. Which is what happened in both of those cases.
