Connors this morning on SEN stated he would think Watts would be staying at Melbourne.
Not a lock.
That statement drives his $$$ up.

So do I, I would love Voss to take that role. First day of pre-season our players walk in Paul Roos, premiership coach and standing next to him a 3 time premiership captian brownlow medalist, you have to respect that.
Voss went straight from media to coach and he did it his way stuffed up early but over the last couple of years made some very good footballers out of some late draft picks and rookies. He would be a very good senior assistant, midfield coach.
You may very well get your wish...

Nup!
Explain yourself..

I have a feeling Voss could be right in the hot seat here............

ikely candidatesAdam SimpsonDual North Melbourne premiership player and former captain, he has been at Hawthorn as an assistant coach since 2010. A down-to-earth character he wins respect and rapport easily. Remains in line for senior jobs elsewhere but would be primed in two years under Roos.Alan RichardsonHas been a coach-in-waiting for many seasons and has been wonderful support to Ken Hinkley at Port Adelaide as director of coaching and strategy. Has a great football brain and is a laidback character.Justin LeppitschThe triple premiership player at the Brisbane Lions has been an assistant coach at his former club and at Richmond. He has turned the Tigers defence into a miserly outfit.Brendon LadeHas admirers at Melbourne due to his Port Adelaide premiership experience and has been a successful midfield coach at the Tigers. Lends an earthy credibility to any environment.Leigh TudorThe former North Melbourne and Geelong player has been mentioned as a potential AFL coach in recent weeks, and has been regarded as a key to the recent successes of both St Kilda and the Sydney Swans. Tudor has also coached in his own right, guiding the Western Jets in the TAC Cup under-18 competition in 2004 and taking Geelong's VFL side to a premiership in 2007.Scott BurnsIn his four years at West Coast, the former Collingwood skipper has impressed as a midfield coach, particularly with his intimate knowledge of stoppages. Appears a certain coach in waiting, but may be tempted by senior jobs at West Coast and the Lions.Peter SumichA two-time premiership full-forward with West Coast, Sumich spent 11 years as an assistant coach with the Eagles before joining Fremantle as a forward coach at the end of 2011 when Ross Lyon took over from Mark Harvey. His name always seems to be raised when coaching jobs become vacant.Sean WellmanThe Essendon premiership defender has served a varied apprenticeship, with his resume featuring assistant coaching roles at the Western Bulldogs (two years) and Melbourne (three) before rejoining the Bombers as their defensive mentor at the end of 2010.Luke PowerA triple-premiership player with the Brisbane Lions and one of Greater Western Sydney's inaugural co-captains in 2012, Power was a key teacher of the Giants' young list and stayed on their defensive coach this season.Adrian FletcherThe well-travelled former midfielder has an extensive coaching background, having served two stints at Collingwood, first as a development coach and later as the Pies midfield coach, along with assistant roles at both Geelong and the Brisbane Lions. He has been with the Lions since the end of 2007.The othersNigel LappinFew more people in football are more highly respected than Lappin. He seems to have found his niche at Geelong in a development role. Hard worker and players trust him implicitly.Cameron LingLing retired after leading Geelong to the 2011 premiership, his third as a player. He has worked in the media for two years. Has great personal qualities and views on the game.Mark BickleyRecently signed a contract extension as an assistant to Brenton Sanderson at Adelaide. Fits the Melbourne profile in that he has premiership experience (twice) and is an experienced senior assistant – Bickley coached the Crows for six games at the end of 2011 and wanted the senior job with the club before they went with Sanderson.Nathan BassettThe former Adelaide defender has developed a strong reputation since taking over the coaching position at SANFL club Norwood, which he took to a Grand Final in his first season of 2010 and a premiership last year. He now has the Redlegs entering the finals after finishing four games clear atop the ladder.Brett RattenThe former Carlton coach says he has enjoyed working alongside Alastair Clarkson at Hawthorn and is unsure whether he'd want another crack at senior coaching. Hard to see him playing understudy to Roos for at least two years.Brett KirkWon two best and fairests at the Swans during Ross' time as coach. Was also chosen by Roos to captain the club. In his first year as an assistant coach, it's hard to see Captain Kirk becoming Coach Kirk so quickly.Dean LaidleyThe former North Melbourne coach always gets brought up when vacancies occur. Like Ratten, it is hard to see Laidley wanting to spend two years as an understudy.John BlakeyWorked with Roos at the Swans, where he remains and is likely to stay. Two-time premiership player at North Melbourne, Blakey has tasted off-field success at the Brisbane Lions and the Swans. Played 359 games. Is highly rated. Wouldn't be the worst choice.Michael O'LoughlinFormer teammate and premiership pupil of Roos who has won rave reviews as coach of the AIS-AFL Academy. Has already been sounded out by clubs for assistant roles and will be on Roos' radar. His next task will be to coach the Indigenous All Stars team in October.Tadhg KennellyHas already been linked to a development role with the Demons. Unlikely to be in the mix for the senior assistant's job, but likely to be in the red and blue next season.Mark WilliamsWas keen on the job before it was given to Roos. Will be in the mix at the Lions. You'd have to think he's unlikely to want to wait another two seasons.

You can just taste it, cant you?
We are a sadistic bunch, and wouldn't it be fitting if he walks to the eagles.
Nothing but pain since '64 for us, and I can already feel the depression that could occur in the coming days...
One thing you can bet your payslip on, come March 2014, we will see improvement.. regardless of the Roos affect or not.

Who is this Paul Roos everyone is talking about? Source / link anyone?
I got his cousin from google ..... Kanga.

Any chance they would be looking to announce Watts signature at the same time GNF?
Doubtful.
The MFC will want Watts to sign on the basis we are improving.. not just on the hope that Roos will improve us.
IF he signs, it will be before or a week later.
-
What happened to Dawes in the pregame?
-
So much love on here for the Roos coaching likelihood, that I fear the expectations for next year might already be exceeding what he can realistically achieve. Port Adelaide's fast rise is the standard probably, but if he achieves less than that, will we all be disappointed?
If we can get out of the bottom four.. and remove 70+ point losses.. then thats fine with me for next year!

Agree! Hopefully means we have made a decision and are just waiting until after the Grand Final to announce it.
We wouldn't have to wait until the GF.
Just until Richmond bow out... Craig/Roos could be announced now, and choco can be announced after they lose first week
-
Jay Clark has just Tweeted that Rodney Eade is about to announce a contract extension with the pies..
Hopefully this is a good sign that we have someone in place.. if not... bad signs that not even rocket wants to coach us!
-
I am pretty confident we will not get pick 1.. or even another pick in the top 10.
I would say we would get (if anything) 2, 18, 20
-
Voss is going to be a great senior assistant. (reckon we may snare him)
Hopefully can turn our midfield around... maybe even bring a mid or two from the lions?
I just wonder who will be his boss? Roos for mine.. if not, Eade.
-
wait a minute ,weren't you supposed to change your moniker?
something about the AODees?
make the commitment ,comon
its expected now
You are absolutely right..
Get around me!

We are in a better position to get him now, not saying we will, but if he wants to coach..... he will come to us.
I give us a 25% chance...
-
Could be playing this week to impress his new club.
2 years.. not too much $$$.. playing assistant role as he is meant to be a fantastic trainer and leader.

Essendon have to hope rivals don't bid for potential father-son stars in 2013 and 2014
some interesting names there , any of them worth more than a third round pick ?
will essendon ask them to hold off going into the draft ?
That is actually quite sad.. especially for the actual draftees.
-
You sit back and read about 'Oh it would be great to get pick 20 for Sylvia' or 'Oh lets just get what we can for J.Watts'
But the fact of the matter is... We can't afford to lose top 10 players.
If we can barely keep our best players.. so how do you all think we are going to attract other top players??

We will be fine.
Lets not allow this thread to get into triple digits.
More importantly, I need a new profile name... maybe we can discuss that instead?

Nothing quite like approving your own comment daveytrain1

One thing I know for sure. I have absolutely no idea who will be our next coach.
The last 115 pages make it no clearer.
Yes there is a shortlist of the names discussed. As to who it will be, beats me.
I also feel confident in saying, that not one poster on this thread knows either.
Everybody is just guessing.

The Successor
in Melbourne Demons
Posted
Still backing Voss to be an assistant.. Was spoken to over 3 weeks ago now.
