  1. Still on holidays from work and looking after my son before kindergarten resumes for him next week so I took him to the training session this morning as he complained to me recently that he misses football. He enjoyed the outing and watching the players train and scored a free Viney drink cup when we bought some snags from the DA stand. Events like this will be much better when a real home base (hopefully Caulfield) can be established as there you can have permanent established facilities like a fan shop, cafe, club museum etc. I couldn't catch much on the field as I was looking after my son but Clarry did stand out and was looking good. Tipping him for a big year.
  2. I ended up stuck in that same loop. Wasn't too fussed about a scarf but wanted the membership ticket given that I had issues with my electronic membership in 2023. When the membership pack arrived it came with scarf and membership card. Now at the multiverse MCG, Blues No.31 can shout at No.31 wearing a Dees scarf 😁

Sounds relatively minor. It should have minimal impact on his pre-season. Carry on ...

Wouldn't it be owned by the State of Victoria as Crown Land (and goverened by the Racecourse Reserve Trust)? Agreed on Waverley, if it was any good as a training facility in 2025 the Hawks would not be ditching it. If Caulfield was to fall through, staying put at Gosch's/AAMI would make sense.

Police investigate suspicious fire in stands at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne's south-east I can't see it having any real impact on MFC's plans on the Glen Huntly side of the precinct.
  6. Happy Feativus all 🥂 May you feats be strong and your grievances few! 😁

If you want government funding, you need the AFLW angle. Also using it for NGA purposes might be an idea. As for the second oval, I think Freo has a digital line marking machine. They can select the dimension of say Marvel Stadium and it will set out the dimensions for Marvel so in the lead up to an away game there, they can practice on it. A good idea. Something the Dees should consider.

Gone are the days when 1 oval is sufficient, now it is minimum 2 ovals. Each club has two male teams (AFL & VFL) and two female teams (AFLW and VFLW). Ideally one oval has the dimensions of the MCG.

Waverley Park is inferior to Gosch's Paddock/AAMI: centrality, transport links and scope for improvement (Melb Rebels are no more and Melb Storm are moving to a new facility). 1. Caulfield; 2. Gosch's/AAMI; 3. Daylight; 4. Hawks hand me down in Mulgrave.

He shortened it from Kangalaris. If he was in the North Melbourne cheer squad I might smile, he isn't. It just sounds tacky to me.

I have always thought that if the Dees can pull off a training base at Caulfield that would be an amazing outcome. Relatively close to the city, near train and tram lines, located in a historic MFC metropolitan recruiting zone (so there actually is a local history and connection there) and consequently already has a strong local following in nearby suburbs. This will be as important as the 2021 flag in re-establishing the Demons as a real force in footy again. Should not overlook the marketing possibilities and connection with the other nearby neighbour, Monash University (Caulfield Campus). It is a chance to cultivate potential new supporters amongst international students.

I was listening to SEN on my way to the beach yesterday afternoon. Mr. Kanga, newly minted MRC chairman was being interviewed. Was certainly not enthused with the idea of the Demons moving into the precinct but was guarded in his comments and I got the impression from his comments that both the Scopus acquisition and MFC had been in the pipeline for quite some time and were well advanced. I suspect some had suggested to him to tone down the rhetoric. BTW, the bay was quite nice, sea temps fairly warm for December 👌

Pert & MFC most definitely would have known about the incoming Scopus deal.

Melb Victory don't have the history, clout, support and connections of MFC. Footscray Park is an actual established park used by local people. If I was a Footscray resident I wouldn't be happy about MV encroaching on public park land and I am certainly no NIMBY. Caulfield Racecourse is an underutilised barren waste land that most Glen Eira residents don't even know exist. Not really comparable IMHO.

Don't Collingwood still play some VFL and AFLW games at Victoria Park?

Scopus produced Harry or was it AJAX and Sandringham Dragons? It is like saying McKinnon Secondary College produced the greatest ruckman of modern times. Love Max's (and my) high school alma mater but a sporting school it never was. I think Ormond FC and Sandringham Dragons had more to do with Max's footballing development than his high school.

I don't think Scopus has a prominent sports program, it was always a more academically oriented school. If it was a Haileybury or Xavier moving in next door, the concern that they might try to muscle in on the two ovals to be used by MFC could be more realistic. In any event, I would expect MFC to have a very detailed agreement set in concrete concerning access and use of the two ovals.

The Scopus purchase rather than property developers doesn't really effect what the Demons are trying to do at the Caulfield RC. One possible impact is Scopus pushing for use of one or both of the ovals. There is also the Glen Huntly public oval that can play a role too. A regime of use to satisfy all could be still feasible given that the Dees still intend on using Casey into the future as well. Caulfield Bears now play at Koornang Park in Carnegie (near where the 67 tram terminates).
  21. I appeared before Justice Pagone once or twice, does that mean I qualify? I will wear my favourite navy blue tie 😁
  22. I like this draft pick. Sure it is speculative, but so is any pic at #68. At least you know he won't flinch in a contest. If he can get solid senior game time and make a contribution, could become a cult hero.
  23. Looks like he has some skills and footy IQ. I think he will be a good pickup. The Dees did well in this year's draft 👍
