Well there's your Mick Malthouses, your Leigh Matthewses, your Alistair Clarksons and then there's your Gary Ayreses.
-
thanks for all the fish!
-
It's not either or, it's both. We're gonna be spending 100% of the salary cap when we're contending - you can't spend more than that. Money we "save" on a coach can't be spent on players. I guess you reckon the CEO of a company just "oversights" too?
-
Well I'm afraid I could not disagree with both of you more. Modern football success relies on team structure and everyone playing their part - if one player fails to do so, the whole team structure disintegrates and you get end-to-end goals against. Players who do their own thing and "play their natural game" and don't follow team rules destroy structure. Quite clearly Sylvia and Jurrah have a problem with this and it needs to be eradicated or they need to be eradicated.

I don't think pick 1 v pick 2 is a big incentive for tanking - I'd be amazed if clubs 17th and 18th playing each other would tank for this advantage. Similarly the PP at the end of the first round - pick 19 is useful but not worth tanking for. Just always award end of first round PPs for less than 5 wins (like they do in the first year) and keep it at that. No need for radical change. If you really want to shake up the whole draft Striker's idea is a beauty.
-
Why did he get dropped then if it wasn't because he plays selfish football and doesn't play to instructions - you've pointed out elsewhere his good stats - there must be some problem. Just let the talented ones do whatever they want?
-
Adds nothing conclusive.
-
Paying him over the odds on a long contract is equally ridiculous. I don't want to see him go for a draft pick - we've got enough of them. I don't particularly see a player trade that would be possible and benefit us - I'm open to suggestion though. He can potentially be a big game winner, which we'll need. It's desirable to retain him - but not at ANY cost.
-
I've gone full circle and I've come back to Malthouse. We need someone with the gravitas to say "this is how it is" and buck no revolt. He's current. He will pay for himself in increased participation from sponsors and members. He'll attract capable assistants and fitness staff. I don't particularly like him - "rapist", "cheat" and his self-serving TFS performance - but I don't have to like him. Will he come to us? He's 50 games/3 seasons from the McHale's all-time games coaching record. After this year he should be on 4 flags with Reynolds, Parkin, Matthews, Barassi, Hafey, Sheedy, Jeans - he'd love to go one ahead of that bunch. Only McHale (7), Smith (6), Hughes (5) and Worrall (5) ahead of him. I reckon he wants to coach again. It'll have to be with a Victorian club - he's not going interstate. It'll have to be in the next 2 years - and he has to look at what jobs will come available. He has said that he wont be coaching in 2012 but if it's going to be 2013 there has to be a job. Geelong - Scott will be there Hawthorn - Clarkson will be renewed this year Carlton - Ratten will be renewed this year St.Kilda - Lyon is a good chance to be re-contracted and it's impossible to see him going there with the Milne history anyway Essendon - Hird That leaves 4 teams: 2012: MFC - looking for a coach now The Dogs - Eade will leave this year and they will be looking for a coach There's no guarantee there'll be a vacancy in 2013, maybe: North - Scott looks good but if they don't progress anything could happen Richmond - Hardwick same as Scott Footscray and Richmond probably hold a romantic attraction.

The important bit is "defensive intent and structurally playing their roles".
-
Remember a few posts back - zero, zilch, no top 10 picks have ever gone home after 2-4 years. The draft is about evening the competition. Sampi to Port, Coniglio to WC and Patton to Collingwood - brilliant! Striker's idea - imaginative. Your idea - moronic. You took too much acid.
-
Yeah right: Coniglio nominates West Coast Patton nominates Collingwood no-one nominates Port the only player who doesn't nominate a club is Ashley Sampi That's going to work out just great
-
Yeah abolish first round - it's unimportant after all.
-
In a nutshell your solution to tanking is abolish the draft and let kids go to the club they want to - think that tops "Scully to Richmond" - great work Einstein!
-
There's only one Judd - he is a freak - he played something like that in his 2nd year. As someone accurately observed he's like a white pointer in a school of fish.
-
Look you can't name 1 top 10 draft pick from the past 10 years who was required and who left to go to another club within 2-4 years. None out of 100, nil, nought, zero, zilch, 0%. Yeah it's a massive concern.
-
Gates are open and they're racing. Off to good start ...
-
If Judd's grandmother has a moustache ... Yeah Scully and Davis are returning home to GWS where they wanted to go when they were drafted in 2009 ...
-
Sheeds and Gubby! Unthinkable!
-
Judd gave WC 6 years, a Brownlow and a flag. You said 2-4 years. Name the top 10 draft pick REQUIRED players who have left to join another club within 4 years of being drafted from the last 10 years of drafting. Here's a hint - Tambling, McLean, Oakley-Nicholls, Meesen, Bradley and Ray weren't required players at the club they were drafted to. You can't name them because there aren't any. It just DOES NOT happen. Quite the reverse - Leuenberger and Rich signed with Brisbane for example. Stop talking [censored].
-
I like you ...
-
Scully and his managment have a great opportunity to sign with MFC this week or next - what a show of faith in us at a time of geat need. Some mischief makers may try to align that with Bailey's exit but Scully could easily refute that.
-
Alright I'm starting it ...
-
How often has this happened? It just a massive furphy. Give me some examples - it's just not a problem. Unless there's some massive incentive like the GW$s, required kids stay at the clubs they're drafted to.
