Was waiting for this. Hope he is comfortable in Melbourne. Can be Cyril, can be Shari/Gresham type, and is so skilful.
-
Haha. What a re-write! ‘Yes, the fundamental conceit of my essay has been debunked but what if it was true?! Can you imagine?!’
-
Was about to ask. That looks bloody terrible. It’s like they are making a volleyball field off to the side…
-
Bunch of clubs would have him. Even if there is a bit of ‘Heffernan, Blumfield, Caracella’ to him - he is a flag winning role player who is tough and kicks goals. Apparently quite coachable, loves the club, and you’d probably want to keep him for the right price…
-
Yes, and our FD don’t think in terms of getting back picks. They want enough to do what they want to do - ie Hogan got us May, Preuss got us Brown. If Jackson gets us Larkey that would be excellent. That’s not to say there aren’t other options but as an example - it suits.
-
Or Jordan with Gus to wing.
-
There is already a report he took less than market. All our senior players have done that from the reporting of when they are signed (no Lord Nev I am not going to go and find links). Occams Razor says this is why they agree to long term deals. Gawn has talked about keeping the band together and it looks like he has done it.

First time I heard was with Giannis… Swings and roundabouts…

In fairness, that narrative was moulded by collective hand wringing on here by some of the more ‘susceptible’ posters… Essentially, the inmates started a panic, got bloodied, and then sat back after and complained about how easy it was for them to panic and more should have been done to stop themselves from panicking.

Yes, it’s such an affirmation of where the club is at and where the group is going. Keeping people motivated to be better can’t just be about ‘the end of their contract’ and we have obviously said to ourselves - these are players to build around - be it performance, structure, culture or all of the above. Such a great spot to be - very few question marks or worries heading into the rest of the decade when it comes to competing with the best.
-
Ah yes, I see @DeeSpencerrivalling @olisik for the bullishness in their next thought without reflecting on their last wrong thought. Its like a daily amnesia, a ‘50 first dates’ type scenario for boneheaded opinions.
-
Might just be happy for his mate.
-
It’s a shame. He’s a great bloke too, good leader. And if it was in isolation it might be ok but they have Whitfield, Kelly, Greene and Coniglio on $900+. Essentially, we pay less for Oliver, Petracca, May, and Gawn.
-
Stephen Coniglio would be the cause for pause. They are no brainers for me because you avoid a bidding war in the future and we basically can assure recruits and coaches that you have this talent for the decade so why wouldn’t you want to be here. Injuries are brought up as a reason not to do this but they happen, it’s not like we wouldn’t keep a 30 year old Oliver if he did his knee (touch wood).
-
Only if you read into his comments. The text was there - it’s a big decision, he will make it when he wants to, he has his own desires for his future. Evidently, he wants to play for the Melbourne footy club and with some pretty good players for the rest of his career.
-
I don’t think there is a problem with Gus ensuring the last big contract he signs is the right one for him. He signed on last time in the middle of his 4th in the Brownlow midfield performance and would be taking a sizeable pay cut to stay with us considering that he wouldn’t be in our top 10 most important players. You just can’t pay a HBF or a wing $700k+. Which is what I suspect is near to what he is on. Plus he would prefer to play midfield. I think he stays too but I understand the delay till when he actually becomes a restricted FA.
-
Half the ground doesn’t get enough sun. There is not enough sun to dry it out, it will be damp.
-
It is well known that he wants to play more in the midfield. He is a pro with media and isn’t going to talk [censored] about being in defence. He even made a passing joke in a recent Gus and Gawny about Goodwin costing him a Brownlow for moving him out of the midfield.
-
I’m not debating this - it is beneath me.
-
You really think Brayshaw and McStay are footballing equals? That’s quite revealing.
-
I enjoy the way we are competitive in every game we play and that I get to see really good footy every game. It’s just frustrating that it is interspersed with sub par performances and boring footy. Expectations rise and that is a part of it of course.
-
Brayshaw isn’t distracted. He is in good form. Don’t give the players the excuse - they know this is a business - they need to perform.

Works for the The Age at least.
