OD is right in that we were not as good as some thought. But we still have some great talent all over the park. The only problem is that the talent is young and can only do so much - their much older colleagues continue to let them down with their insipid or frontrunning footy. I don't like using ratings but it does highlight where we are coming from. Our leaders are in 2010: Moloney - B player on the field (A+ in the centre I will say) Jones - B (pushed up through consistent performances) Green - C (B+ last year) Rivers - C+ (B some weeks, C other weeks) Sylvia - B (He's the ABC of the Dees, changes weekly) Davey - D (solid B last few years) Jamar - B (A last year, has been injured) Grimes - D (B, but injured) These are challenged footy players trying to lead a bunch of kids and they cannot do it. OD is right when it comes to our senior players - we do overrate them (and their leadership capabilities). Other teams have a stronger core of senior players, and we are finding out that those that lived in the shadows of McDonald, Neitz, White, Yze, et al. are finding it difficult out of the shadow.

It is at this point that I will say that we will contact him during the season if he stays out of contract, and Bailey doesn't need to be sacked mid-season for us to do it. All the coaches I would like to see can wait until October without much trouble.

The LG has to go. Grimes and Jones can stay if they are chosen from the U/23 brigade. Moloney can be captain if chosen by the U/23 brigade. Our flag will be won by the U/23 brigade so why continue this charade with the NQR minds of Rivers, Green, Moloney, and Davey +Sylvia and Jamar leading the team? And if the over 23s don't like it - tell them that the only way the will win a flag is with these kids. If they still don't like it - trade them. Bailey may go, but it isn't him at all. It's the blokes we all thought had something in them that they quite clearly don't.

Martin's manager isn't as good Scully's? I don't think we should make this a "why can't we keep our players while others keep theirs" merry-go-round. We got Trengove to throw away the two year automatic contract in favour of a three year deal? The MFC can keep its players happy because they are at the MFC.

Huh? Who is saying that? It is at all clubs expense. They are bringing these teams in as 'equally' as possible when it comes to the other teams. I have my eyes on the prize.

I think he is a AFL-standard talent. Each to their own.
-
Still heavily involved down there though.

AFL has had its fair share of salary cap issues... But I agree that League fans wish to see the Storm die, and they just don't 'get it' when it comes to growing their sport in Australia. Union will punish them when the Force get their act together and when McQueen works his magic, and the AFL won't even see them in the rear view...

I have got to tell you something - there is little chance that a 'Digby' could play in the AFL. I'm truly sorry.
-
Yes, and there is a culture of watching League as opposed to going to the game. I think the stadium deal is key in both these markets - on the weekend the Suns got 4k more people to their game than the Titans. The TV viewership will gradually get better - but that is more or less evened up over the league. Coporate sponsors and gate returns is where it is at when it comes to the old "they'll go under and we will pay for it" argument. Good stadium deal = good weather up in GC and GWS.

The pub, cause seven mate isn't your mate, they will be playing a Steve Martin comedy (?) 'starring' the kid that played Clark Kent in Smallville.

It would save time and effort.

For him to leave it to others to talk about? Yeah, that is sensible... I'm just kidding. But seriously, footy wouldn't be where it is today without the expansion and I am happy to give a bit to get them up and running. But I am not happy to give up anything that will harm our chances of a flag. I don't believe in the "if you are for GWS, then you are for Melbourne's chances of a flag being diminished" meme.
-
Well said without saying a word. What do you want us to do? We have little to complain about at the minute. We are trying to keep our players just like every other club. We are pushing to keep some money to capitalise on FA. I think you are showing a bit of the dreaded syndrome here.
-
Yeah, let's be pricks! Why? Because of what they have done to us! What have they done? I didn't think anything happens until the end of the season? It's what they can do! Hypotheticals, really? It's what they will do! Hypotheticals or Hyper-theticals? Just shut up, rpfc! You're arrogant and condescension. Would that be condescending? Case in point. I'm glad we had this chat.

On at 9.30 on Prime in Canberra. According to their website, according to other guides it isn't on at all, AFL does not exist, and Melbourne is a suburb of Florida.

Old is right. My red/green is determined by last years average.

The only thing to fear is fear itself. Fear is the path to the dark side. Don't be afraid.
-
I'm not guessing. I believe in an honest 19 year old.
-
Huh? The are the home team, they should wear their traditional strip and we should be made to wear cream-coloured tapioca, or play naked with a great big red and blue turban if required.
-
Absolutely, the feeling up north is one of fear and paranoia. Plus their game at the minute is poorly run (they cannot get News Corps tentacles out of the running of the game) and are at a point in time where they are utterly distracted by three games a year (SoO). I would love someone to explain to me how SoO helps their game attract people to the NRL. No-one I have talked to can. They have created a three game series where the standard is far better than everything they see every week - diluting the NRL brand - and attract people to their state every year - meaning fans of clubs in the bottom half only talk about NSW or Qld every year - diluting club loyalties. It's like someone shooting themselves in the foot and screaming "how great is this!" Went off on a tangent, sorry.
-
Some of you don't know what you are angry about... Is it expansion itself? I don't know why, the game has to grow to thrive. Imagine where the VFL would be if it didn't expand. Is it the tactics concerning Tom? This I can understand. But it their only way of attracting players to the hell hole that is GWS. And just on the tactics - most have you fallen hook, line and sinker. They put their rumours and innuendo out there and you eat it up like a hungry mule. Stop devouring the sh!t they are serving, roll your eyes at the Stevens' and the Ralph's of this world spreading their "mail," and have faith in a kid that will help lead the Melbourne Footy Club to a flag.
-
How do you know that?! Same was said about JMac and he was a superb captain - his efforts only more appreciated since he has left. He might not be demonstrative onfield (he's 19 it should be noted), but he never flinches in the clinches and runs as hard as any AFL player. If Trengove is captain material, so is Tom Scully.

We'll be wearing white anyway so...
