ENERGY WATCH = $6 Million sponsorship
rpfc replied to Chicken Deelicious's topic in Melbourne Demons
If people are willing to give, you take their money, say thankyou, and try to spend on things that help win a flag. -
I could barely disagree more with this post. Green may stay, but not as captain. Trengove may be young, but he is much older than Colin Sylvia in every facet other than time spent on this earth.
-
I can see us getting Malthouse or Lyon. I would be happy with either. I would be even happier if we stole Neeld or someone else at Collingwood to work with Lyon if we got Lyon. Melbourne needs the IP it does.
-
This is why I don't really care. Bring in Walls? Er, what value does he add? His gut instinct about coaching? He would have no idea about current structures, new trends etc. For me - we are trying to get an experienced coach. Failing that, let's get the most intimidating assistant out there and steal some IP from Collingwood, Geelong, et al Don't need David King to do that - I trust Garry to get that right. rpfc would do it if asked.
-
I have given this argument too, mostly when West is favoured above Mahoney or Royal. However, we have obvious issues with being behind clubs with regard to current structures and poaching from Collingwood would be highly advisable. This is less about getting rid of people, and more about getting IP and new ideas into the club.

Some of what you have said doesn't apply to me for the reason that nutbean has already stated. As for the 'high horse/don't tell others what they can say' that was not my intent. This poster claims to have faith that Scully is to be believed and has issues with posters painting him in a bad light - and then he posts a link to a well-worn rumour on a footy forum. If he wants to see less posters criticising and rumour-mongering about Scully - why post that? It merely keeps the rumour-mongering going. I have said all along that anyone can say anything (but I understand why those that run Demonland don't see it that way...).
-
You seem like an innocent enough fellow, and you also seem to be in favour of believeing Tom's words - why then do you keep this thread going and bring up rumours from a footy forum that we at Demonland have already discussed? You would be better served not bothering to post in this thread until there is some more concrete information.

I don't know where you are coming from. We are talking about drafting kids that are too slight, are we not? I am saying that you don't draft 18 year olds on their mass at 18, but at what they will be at 24. That is why we need to trade for midfielders in the 23-26 age range who are solidly built. I am saying don't blame the drafting, blame the lack of adventurousness in October...
-
We need them, but you don't go into the draft thinking "we need big bodies" - that path leads to Luke Molans. We need to be expansive at the trade table to find these bodies, not attempt to do it with 18 years in the draft.
-
It certainly isn't. I can see how Clarkson is a long shot - he has a long term contract in front of him at a contending club in the middle of its window. But Lyon is nearing midnight in St Kilda's window, and has one year left - and there is a long history of 'the one year left, i'm off' move. Thompson and Malthouse did this.

Immediately making him an expert on picking a coach... Honestly, these committees are drummed up to be more than they are. As BB said, we know what we want, and we are trying like hell to pry someone out. If that fails, we can grab the most intimidating assistant out there, and grab some IP from Collingwood. We did it 'the right way' last time didn't we? I remember the comments from all over about how professionally we picked a bloke that would be sacked 3 3/4 years later... Thanks alot Nathan Burke!!

We are waiting. And we will review the FD in Sept/Oct with, I would imagine, wholesale changes. But Bailey was never a chance to coach after The Geelong Massacre of 2011. Zero chance. Null. And if that is the case - you have to move on.
-
Yeah, it's the safer option to keep Brad as Captain. People will think we are being mean if we moved him out of the captaincy. And perception is so important at this level. I just can't seem to care. He shouldn't be captain in 2012 and he won't.
-
Hope not. Conversion rate is terrible...

My views are thus: 1. We will never be in a better position to get a second team in Sydney - have footy on every week in Sydney. 2. Port's issues were Oakley's fault and the decision to have the Port Adelaide name instead of a more generic name. Right off the bat many people hated the club and would never embrace it. 3. Sydney's crowds are always stronger than most NRL games - and the NRL is a television sport so comparing attendances is always difficult. 4. With a 'clean' stadium, the Giants don't have to get more than mid-teens to stay in the black. 5. Canberra will see about 3 Giants games a season but West Sydney has a better shot of keeping this team than Canberra. The place has more footy fans, absolutely, but there is zero corporate support and the infrastructure is now worse than what is in Blacktown. The Giants will be around for quite a while. And they should be. I don't wish them every success, however... There is one success that is reserved for the Dees.

This committee just screams to me - "we are very keen to poach an established coach." And I am ok with that...
-
So he can be removed as captain?
-
I would have to play that down after he was named on the 'let's poach a coach' committee.
-
Don't you put that evil on Demonland, Ricky Bobby!! Seriously though, the club being in disarray has very little to do with Moderators deleting vitriolic posts about Cam Schwab on Demonland...
-
Why shouldn't the CEO be involved? You have to pay the coach, don't you?
-
And you are worried about fallout? We had a Chernobyl event happen at that Geelong game, the club can take the 'fallout' from the embarrassment of changing Captains.
-
Does he? He should be made to be elected captain each year - as Maxwell has to do at Collingwood. I would bet the LG changes significantly, and Brad isn't Captain.
-
Cam Bruce was on the VL when he left. He may go, I don't think he will, and I don't think he will be captain.
-
He drove to the game expecting to play - he felt he could play a full game. It may be humiliating for Brad. The whole of 2011 has been humiliating for him. For us. For the Office of the Captain of the MFC. For the club. I don't care that Brad Green felt bad to wear the vest. I don't care that we have disrespected the Office of the Captain of the MFC. Means jack-all at the moment.
