  1. 2011 was Gettysburg without the Address. Hardly inspiring...
  2. Yeah, similar toughts here. He has a chance as they all do under a new coach but I just can't see it happening.
  3. Yes, good luck to him. He and Morton will probably be the biggest beneficiaries post-Bailey. And I will give Bate more than 2 Practice games for judgement.
  4. Trengove, McKenzie, Bail, Gysberts, and Viney are my hopes for stars in our midfield. There's no Ablett or Judd in there unfortunately... Bartel, Sewell, Montagna, Corey, and Selwood are there but not an Ablett or a Judd...
  5. That's a good attitude. Others better get ready for some hurt in the first half the season. We are not a good team, and we are learning a new way, and we are giving blokes chances in new roles: Clark, Sellar, Howe, Magner, Bate, Couch, Green, Davey, Nicholson, Blease, and Grimes (I hope) and some of these are going to fail and some of the time the team is going to fail too.
  6. Good skills, good balance, good footy mind, he should be better than he is. Sometimes you get an A Rod, sometimes you get a Billy Beane. That's a baseball reference.
  7. What about we try and get Addam Maric from Richmond? Looked pretty good out there...
  8. As I said, this thread has ulterior motives. It isn't about 'each game on its merits' it is about us subconciously ranking our team against others. We feel, so far in this poll, that we have moved past WB and St K with wins over Ess, BL, and Richmond. We also feel that Carlton are far better than we are, that isn't to say we give up hope of a win, but that we are not at their level yet. And don't compare rebuilds - they got Judd to kick off their rebuild, we did not...
  9. Let's respect Jim enough to keep him out of first half of the season predictions... We all hope to improve but how much can we improve? I think enough to beat WB and St K, which is progress. And I am not throwing the game away, I am just saying that there are teams well infornt of us. The same way we will be well infront of them in a few years time.
  10. Relevant to rpfc, then. Go ahead, prognosticate away.
  11. Funny how rarely our midfield is 'allowed to play well.' I mean, come on, WYL, I as blithely optimistic about the future as the next bloke but they are well ahead of us. And that's what this exercise reveals in my opinion - which teams we think we can overtake (or stay infront of) in the very near future. It's not about 'each match on it's merits.' It's about 'all things considered - where do we sit?' And we sit well behind Carlton...
  12. Ok, then I was answering a question that hadn't been asked yet. I am very good at that. Stop the nonsense at the source. It's a periphery problem in my view. Either Davey does it, or a kid like Blease, or a kid from rounds 2 onward in the next draft, or some fringe player from another club, or Jurrah does it by himself. Whatever the answer it will mean little in the grand scheme. We need a star midfield to get the ball down there to make this thread relevant.
  13. I don't care if you have Tony Robbins come and talk to the fellas - it won't give us a better midfield than Carlton... And that's where the game is won and lost, no preparation on behalf of the FD will mitigate that fact. That's reality. Yours and mine.
  14. I'm not certain that is 'wasted' time. Students will learn the importance of respect, learn that some kids have none, learn that some kids have ADHD, and later learn which parents blame the teachers for their own failure to teach their kids proper respect and a modicum of discipline.
  15. I was getting ahead of myself. The comp picks. People want to use our currency on things; a small forward, a lamp, a fullsize mirror, potential star mids, etc. I want a star mid.
  16. If we trade those picks, it will be for a mid. If we use those picks, we will use the highest pick on a mid. We need a good midfield before we worry about getting a small forward.
  17. binman This is not a private poll... Posters will own their noose.
  18. What attitude? Reality?
  19. Unforunately, they have a blue chip midfield to our choc-chip midfield... Unless Clark and Frawley are dominant figures, we will lose to teams with better midfields.
  20. Oh, it's all meaningless fun...
  21. I'll give my reasoning: Beat the Lions at home in Neeld's first game. Get thrashed in Perth. Pip the Tigers, who unforunately, have an amazing midfield that is far better than ours. We have Frawley though, and that means they don't have Riewoldt... Beat the rebuilding Bulldogs at the G. Beat the Saints because it is at the G. At 4 and 1 go to Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney and Carlton and lose all respect we gained in the first 5 weeks... Beat the Bombers as they arrogantly come off a hiding of the GWS questioning whether we will be any better... And get told by the Pies to 'stay down!'
  22. That's the spirit!
  23. Glad to hear he got his hands on the footy. See how he goes against the Pies in the dry.
  24. I forgot to add the zero win option...
  25. Was very generous and only found 5 wins...
