  1. That's an analysis joeboy would be proud of...
  2. That's certainly true but I will say that my disappointment is more along the lines that we are paying market price for someone who has a cloud over him with WADA (although I think it will not be much of a storm...), and who has nominated us as his desired destination and with seemingly no-one else in the running for him. We had leverage that we were not intent on using and I can see that backfiring on clubs from time to time - Clark when he was off to Freo - but for Jake Melksham I would probably push Essendon a bit further. Anyway, don't sweat the small stuff and all that...
  3. Yes, well if GC ends up paying overs then I guess we can't complain too much. I would trade Howe for Melksham; I don't think Howe would have played much forward if Watts, Petracca, and Kent are fit (and at the club), or in defence if Lumumba, Grimes, Salem, and Stretch are there and fit too.
  4. Well, if it's Picket then it isn't an act...
  5. Um, I hope we are just 'moving back' in the draft because he is OOC, has one club interested from all reports and could probably make it to us in the PSD. It isn't the end of the world, and he may end up being value but it doesn't look great on face value.
  6. Nah, right now. Best inside mid we have. Leads the club in average Contested Possessions and Clearances in 2015.
  7. That's not too bad... ND25 for Melksham and Kennedy.
  8. This will be forgotten through time but Jack Viney should have been ND3 - all teams knew we were taking him regardless of where; we gave him a 5 year 'contract' at 15, all teams knew he would become what he has become. GWS and GC were the teams that could have forced our hand and both were involved in the Mini Draft that delivered GWS ND2 and ND3, GC Martin, and us Hogan. GWS wanted our pick and GC wasn't spoiling the apple cart - Viney at ND26.
  9. Not much of a third act...
  10. So he won't fix depth but he will give competition for spots? One player doesn't fix depth problems but if you get enough 'one players' then they become many players and then you fix the depth problem... You don't get 'it?' 'It' being that he is BETTER than Matt Jones and Dean Terlich. Heppell was a stalwart of Essendon's worst team, Nathan Jones of our worst teams. It's not baffling - Goodwin knows we have a midfield that bats 6 deep and can see an AFL-tested 7th best midfielder that he can get to the club. Is it really that hard to see what Goodwin is trying to remedy?
  11. So Heppell has a small holiday and so he is worth nothing? Does anyone think they are going to get 2 years? Pfft. Their knuckles are about to be rapped. These players might have diminished value in their contract and a possible trade - but they would not be worth 'nothing.'
  12. Is Heppell worth nothing in that instance?
  13. Serves you people right for hating a bloke for no effing reason.
  14. Yeah, all he needs to do is nominate only for the PSD and get overlooked by 5 clubs.
  15. PSD is still there waiting to be relevant.
  16. You can't tell me that Martin was worth that. The Lions took us for a ride - I know that Martin had some personal issues he was dealing with but we didn't get value there. We sold simply to sell and it backfired, it didn't backfire on Morton, Gysberts, et al but that is more a commentary on their talents than our trading acumen.
  17. Yes, I remember noting at the time of the Martin trade that we did not get value and it was very poor trading - that Pick 71 was essentially not used because we could have used Pick 133 to upgrade Nicholson. Nicholson, by the way, I am told was given that contract under Bailey and prior to Neeld so it was a carry over. Perhaps a similar thing happened with Terlich's contract under Roos? These things can happen long before they are announced.
  18. I am sure that their fate rests on how we go with FA and trading and how much talent we see in the draft.
  19. Well, they have installed the pre-cursor to that with Sydney's hamfisted restriction on trading the last two years and now their max $450k contract stipulation for new players. So that might be a chance to happen.
  20. It read it as we were selling and not getting near the price we were hoping for. Frankly, good! I don't like the idea of just getting rid of someone just to get rid of them. Watts isn't a cancer, he's a player with elite skills and some fundamental flaws but just came off his best year. String 5 months together like the two he had this year and he will be a valuable role player on a flank.
  21. That midfield needs talent - if like the Roos we are too heavy on inside mids - then we can find some outside players. On the scale of 'problems to have' it's a step up from where we are...
  22. That's a bit steep. What about moving back 5 spots for Hartlett?
  23. The average salary is about $265k-275k. The numbers for last season were published by the Hun earlier in the year.
