  1. There is no difference between a caretaker coach overlooked for the job and Roos? For one thing - Roos instigated this transition, he is the architect of it, and the one with experience on how it has worked in the past. If the point is to subtly say that Roos is a 'lame duck' and all the irrelevance that comes from being one - I doubt the players would see it that way. It's Paul Roos. If the point is that more and more responsibility will transfer to Goodwin to the point where he is the head coach by the end of next season - then that is the actual point isn't it? I don't know whether it will be successful but Roos would be able to point to his experience in doing this as a successful one - a very successful one...
  2. In preparation for the ND, it has been updated. Now, we have 10 days to decide whether to nominate Lovett - which will make it harder to not delist someone if we want to 'meet' any bid during the ND. If a bid comes during the ND, we have to put Lovett on the Primary List if we want to meet that bid. If he makes it through (and through the PSD I believe - we can rookie list him). So if we wanted to take him, I can see why we have not delisted Terlich - we may not want to take Lovett in the ND, nor will we have to if he doesn't get bid upon.
  3. Thanks for the reports - I will get more excited for them when we move into game style stuff - the running is indicative of fitness and preparedness for the season but I am more interested in Goodwin's imprimatur on the offensive side of the game. And, Garland and TMac being there says more about those two than it does about the others NOT being there. The club manages each person individually and telling me that Player A or Player B 'should be there after last year' is simply an ignorant statement - you don't know how they are situated from a fitness perspective or what work they have already done.
  4. Please don't tell us anymore, BBO. I don't want to be an accomplice after the fact... Um, jeez, I don't know - about every player I suggested during my cringeworthy Flag Core © madness from a few years ago... Morton and Gysberts the most laughable. But the ones that were the reverse - wrote off Garland after Rd 2, 2008. Dunn has stopped jumper punching and pulled a career out of the fire I didn't think he would be able to get. Not many of these... I was right onto Viney and Hogan. Knew Viney would be this good when his mum had parents of older boys complain to her about how he played his footy. And as soon as I saw some footage of Hogan before the Mini Draft - it was by any means necessary... So it's not all delusion and stupidity.
  5. Nothing wrong with clubs getting role players. You follow the wrong club if you eye-roll recruitment of a bit part player that may or may not be able to play at a higher level. Roos has had us recruit 11 AFL experienced players in his short tenure. From the summer of 2007/8 to 2011/12 we only recruited Meesen and MacDonald from other clubs. Only Vince and Tyson were recruited as something more than 'role players.' Why get speculative youth to (maybe) develop into something that a seasoned pro already is? It is a reason for our great malaise post 2007. Having no top end talent doesn't send you off the cliff, having a lack of AFL standard players to fill a team does that.
  6. How about this; happy for the training reports, not so much for the way our opinions were belittled henceforth? Pretty much covers it.
  7. The idea of a 'spine' is a bit outdated as a good centre is mitigated by the fact that there are so many mids now that go through there - the 'centre' position is used less and less. And more on your point - setting up your talls is second only to setting up your midfield. I say 'best available' but if there is a 'position' to shore up it is talent in the middle.
  8. I am getting emotionally invested again!!! But that Mathieson is very Bartel-like IMO...
  9. Can I just say that - in light of the Differing Opinions thread - that the high ground is lost when someone who is aggressively 'posted at' the way you were just then replies with a retort worse than the initial aggressive post. So while I would not be as obnoxious as Mach5 was above - it is hardly helpful to respond the way you did. Just sayin...
  10. Absolutely, and with the rotations limit, that will have to happen but I don't want to see him filling a spot at HFF - the guy is a ball hunter.
  11. Yeah, he will get another go somewhere.
  12. That pick they have at 10 will be used for points on Hopper or Kennedy, any agreement that they would have with us would also require Ess, GC, Carlton, and Adel to be in on. It simply won't happen.
  13. The thing about Vanders is that, yes he can butcher a footy, but sometimes its a possie not many other players would have been able to get. And when near the forward line - it doesn't have to perfect - it has to be advantage side of Hogan and he will do the rest.
  14. He's no kid, he's 23 and he is used to playing 100 mins in the middle for two years straight for albeit a third tier comp. His body will adapt if we put him in there - it will never adapt if we leave him on a flank. He knows this is only chance to live his dream - give him a chance to do what he wants and play him in the middle - it's not like we have a plethora of options in there... Plus, he's big, plays big, and we need that. Actual need - not the 'need' that we apparently have to recruit a 2nd forward for Hogan to play with - but an actual need.
  15. He is a ball winning mid that needs to play in the midfield - you put him on the flank predominantly and you will watch him become less and less effective. Put. Him. In. The. Guts.
  16. DC coined He Who F.... Us Around sometime after I gave him the Voldemort - He Who Must Not Be Named - treatment. Halcyon days of Demonland those days.
  17. Yes, I said a few days ago his floor looks like Shane Edwards. Let's hope he can get off the floor a little though...
  18. Keep in mind that most of us are only going off highlight packages... But players like Francis look excellent as they dispose of the footy well and cut off kicks in defence and take strong marks around the ground - they really could be Goddard or they could be Daniel Bell. The player that I am excited about at this time of the year is the bull who will not let anyone else get the footy (Viney) and you just know... Or the player who is a dominant tall player that doesn't stop moving and leads in all directions and loves to use his body (Hogan) and you just know... Or the player that seems to follow the play in the centre square like he has ESP with the sherrin and when he gets the ball explodes out of the traffic as if he has a GPS inbuilt (Judd) and you just know... Obviously the last type of player is the one we are without although Petracca looks like that type of power player. Parish would be the closest to that in this class that I have seen in my limited viewings - who are the players that have those traits?
  19. No, you don't. It doesn't really matter, but if you care so much about how others treat you on here, have some self-reflection with what you type.
  20. Fantasy vs Reality. Apocalypse books, films, and tv shows are all the rage with a great number of people. Do they want the world to end?
  21. Usually around now? Maybe mid-November for the older players.
  22. I, personally, don't ever think about the hidden reasons why people on here are the way they are. And your personality is somewhat distorted by being anonymous and the words occasionally misunderstood through the lack of tone in text... I like our little community though - as we all do - some leave but they keep coming back. They love us too much.
  23. This 'snoop dog' and I have different interpretations of the word 'need'...
