They still have the arrogance built up from sucessful 80s - 2010 era and a sense of entitlement that they are on a rebuild trajectory that will get them back to that place in just another few years.

I'd love to see them have another decade or two of mediocrity,  where they bobble about between 12th - 9th and then make finals a few times perhaps, but only manage to finish in the 5th - 8th range and get knocked out in elimination, semi and prelim finals without ever really getting close to a flag to give there fans a reality check on what it's like to be a real football supporter.

Their "You Melbourne supporters have become arrogant" remark is just the start of their on the outside looking in journey that they are not use to and don't like the feel of.

You're spot on.  Plus I don't think we were arrogant after 2021, most of us spent last year in total shock it actually happened!

Funnily enough I had a look at the Big Footy forum on Hawks just now, they have an entire thread boasting about how arrogant they are.  Which goes for 149 pages.....

It was definitely mind boggling, and i was disgusted like many on here, but we are carrying on like he would have converted. Whether he could have found a target 20m closer (would have been called on no doubt) remains to be seen.

To me the bigger howler was the non-goal call. Its gets my heart rate up every time i hear it on the radio or see the replay on TV - i just cannot move past how bad that decision was. I just hope in the whole scheme of things it becomes irrelevant. I would hate if that becomes a defining part of our season. We wont know of course until all things are done.

Also, have a close look at that goal that should have been called a goal.  Smith should have got a free for being held.

Oh... i do have a particular dislike of Hawthorn... that event at Dallas Brooks..... and that day in 1988..   i only remember the first half a everything blurred in amber disbelief thereafter...   but i never take playing these [censored] n poos lightly.

    Go Dees...  just win.

I attribute evidence of child abuse to those days in late 80s, some of those stories I've shared in Demonland before.

1987, Preliminary Final.  I was at my grandparents while my parents were in Queensland.  We were listening to the game on the radio, and when that Gary Buckenara goal happened, my grandfather started teasing me, causing me to run to Mum's childhood bedroom, slam the door, and throw myself on the bed in howls of tears, while I listened to my grandmother tell Pa off for making me upset.

1988, Grand Final.  My Dad, brother and I were the only Melbourne supporters in a sea of Hawthorn supporters in our extended family on my mum's side.  Some bright spark, I think it was my uncle (the most arrogant of arrogant Hawks supporters) decided we should all go to Glenferrie Oval.  I was 17, so already good at mastering the art of teenage surliness.  My cousin kept playing "Happy Team at Hawthorn" on his tape player.  Smoke billowed out of my brother's ears, while I contemplated throwing that thing on the train tracks.

    I read this…

It'll be a big challenge, the Dee's have the best midfield and the best ruck in the comp. Walking away breakeven out of the middle would be a massive win in my book.

…and kinda felt sorry for them.

    But then I read this…

Worst top 4 in my lifetime.  We’re a big chance again this week.  GO HAWKS.

… aaaaand not feeling sorry for them anymore.

They're awfully cocky for a bottom 4 team, aren't they?

I had to laugh last year when a Hawthorn-barracking relative told me "You Melbourne supporters have become arrogant since winning the Premiership".  I've put up with 40 years of his arrogance!

I was more disappointed with the quality of the umpires’ bounces and the lack of them being recalled than I was with JVR’s performance as second ruck against decent opposition

I wasn't disappointed in JVR, I'm just saying in a game like that, given that in the first quarter Gawn was being rested for sequential hit outs, I'd have preferred to have Grundy at the realm instead of the inexperience of JVR, if Gawn gets injured, without Grundy, we're cooked.

  6. In:  Oliver, Grundy

    Out: Petty, Harmes

If one thing showed anything, it was that we really needed to have that second ruck with a side that has two rucks.  Rooey did his best, but he's not experienced enough yet.  We really could have done with Grundy yesterday.

I was surrounded by tiges fans at the game. Most were ok but there was a group right behind me that mouthed off the whole game. Complete numpties.

There was a row of Tigers bogans next to the Demon Army that was ejected for just being general lowlives.  Yelling insults to Ryan (the head of the cheersquad with the white hair and overall legend), offensive behaviour to a woman in the row in front of them, swearing, general obnoxious behaviour.  Quite a few of them refused to go when security asked them to, and one of them was swearing profusely at a guard.  One had a smeer on his face that would rival Billy Idol.  The supporters are fun to watch when they lose......

Last year in the same bay, at the ANZAC Eve match, I had one rabid support yell in my face that we were all cheats, as she left the game 10 minutes early.  They're seriously worse than Collingwood with the saltiness.

It's a fair point, helps to have someone who can  'lead the line'. This is something T-mac provides as well.

Exactly, we've lacked it to a certain extent since TMac got injured. I believe it's a key aspect as to why our forward line hasn't been firing as well.  Drop Brown, fine, but then bring in that leadership.  Grundy is experienced enough to do that.

  9. 1 minute ago, Megatron said:

Hmm I’m not so sure. Petty might play forward and keep Tomo in.

The thing is, we need leadership in the forward line.  Brown was providing that.  Petty is still young, and hasn't played enough in the forward to provide leadership.

What I don't get is the talk from the media that MFC will have to pay Grundy's contract if he decides to move. On what planet do these morons live? IF Grundy were to request a trade, it is he who would want to break the contract, giving him no right to demand a contract payout. I do NOT think MFC actually want him off their books. He is a great backup to Gawn and will play games next year and beyond. The nonsense around Grundy is just another example of the media hatred for the MFC. It's all negative press for the Dees, as usual. Get stuffed media!

That's the point people in the media are blindly ignoring.  If (and it's a big if) Grundy wants a trade, Melbourne would have to agree to it, and I don't see that happening.

Do you think the team goody will pick, assuming no injuries, would be different to your team?

And if yes, who comes in and who goes out?

(Note: I'm not trying to be cute, it's just that they are two different questions ie who I would pick versus who I think goody will pick).

You've got a point.  I've put forward what I would select though.  Spargo last few games has been a bit off the boil, whereas Melksham has been on fire last couple of games.  I can't speak for Goodie, though, as I'm not him!

Gotta give him some credit, a few years ago he wouldn't have been able to pronounce the name Brodie Grundy.

I'm just sick of the media hacks saying things like "out of favour" and "sure to seek a trade" like they'd know anything.  Stick to your own lane, Lloyd, you know jack [censored] about a club you know nothing about, and all you're trying to do is keep up with fellow media hacks in trying to be relevant.

  13. My finals side (pending fitness) would be:

    Back.                  Bowey.         May.            McVee

    Half back.          Rivers.          Lever           Salem

    Centre.              Hunter.         Oliver.          Langdon

    Half forward.    Petracca       Grundy.       Pickett

Forward.           Van Rooyen  Fritsch.       Neal Bullen

    Followers.         Gawn.           Brayshaw.   Viney

Interchange:     Petty            Sparrow.       Hibbert.       McDonald.       Sub.   Melksham

Emergency from:     Smith.        Woewodin.     Harmes.           Spargo.         Jordan.       Chandler.     Brown.     Tomlinson

I'm not convinced TMac will be fit, if he's not, then Brown would be my in.

Interesting problem to have, a fit list with so many that could be counted as best 22.  I feel bad for the ones not in......
