Hi All
Probably a bit closer for me than most here - he played footy in the under 11s at Glen Iris Gladiators with my son. His dad is the team manager.
There has been 2 go fund me's set up - one with the money going directly to the Davey family to allow them as much time as possible for whatever they need and the other set up by the primary school for all the families involved - donate what you can spare to help

I'm so sorry. I hope your boy is okay, as is the rest of his team.

My thoughts are that Pert was asked to resign or be sacked as a result of the most recent overview review findings. He chose to graciously resign his position. Being contracted, I feel the MFC Board talked him into resigning and then re-employing him as a consultant for the Caulfield project to see his contract out. Just feel there is more to this than meets the eye.
Pert has stuck his nose recently into areas such as the Oliver issue, which is outside his responsibilities. Not handled well at all. I am sure that was raised at the Club review.
To me, Pert has always been a person who seeks gratification. Hope we get a good CEO.
Right, so now you're calling Brad Green a liar? Because that's not what he indicated in his letter.

This really hit home for a number of reasons. Absolutely unfathomable in Australia that you would send your child to school and not expect them to come home.
As a father I find it almost incomprehensible to think about outliving your children. My sincerest thoughts go out to all involved in this heart-breaking tragedy.
It hit home for me because my nephew is the same age as Jack. I can't imagine how the family must be feeling, as I can't fathom something horrible like that happening to James. Just horrible. I feel like crying.

This is a tragedy.
A young life lost far too soon.
I also hope the Melbourne Football Club do something to honour Jack Davey in Round 1.
I note the club has responded to his dad's Instagram post saying they'll get in touch with an offer to help in any way they can. Lovely gesture.

Does Gary Pert know how to?
Let's see. He oversaw the developments at Casey Fields. He has got us closer than any other CEO to a home base with the Caulfield proposal. He has got the club in the best financial shape it's every been in. He has seen us get to the highest membership in the club's history.

David Chippindall, formerly CFO and now COO has been at the club for years. He will definitely be able to steer the ship in the short term. Let's see what the Club has to say officially about the CEO's replacement.
David Chippendall is a finance person. Does that mean he knows how to manage an organisation?

Just been announced Pert is stepping down. Hope those of you calling for his head are happy. It's one thing being president, quite another to be CEO, given Pert has been the one that has put the club in its best financial position in the club's history, I hope you all have a competent person in mind to take over.

On this day 76 years ago, Melbourne defeated Essendon by 39 points in the grand final replay after the teams drew the previous week.
MELBOURNE 6.2.38 9.3.57 11.6.72 13.11.89
ESSENDON 0.3.3 5.5.35 6.6.42 7.8.50
The Bombers had only themselves to blame for their misfortune. They beat the Demons comfortably in the second semi final but almost kicked themselves out a fortnight later in drawing with 7.27.69 to Melbourne’s 10.9.69.Chief football writers Hector de Lacy of The Sporting Globe and Alf Brown of The Herald both considered Norm Smith the best on ground for his work in leading the Melbourne forward line, with The Herald calling it one of the greatest
games of his career.Other players highlighted for their efforts were Melbourne full-forward Jack Mueller and centre half-forward Lance Arnold, centreman George Bickford and wingman Max Spittle. Essendon's best were Bob McClure and Norm McDonald.
This game I look on with great fondness, for no other reason as it was the first game of football my dad ever went to. He was a 10 year old kid at the time, living in Brighton, trying to decide which footy team to barrack for. Those were still the days of your footy club reflecting the area in Melbourne in which you lived, and in his area the choice was St Kilda or Melbourne. Nana grew up around the corner from the Brunswick St Oval, so naturally she barracked for Fitzroy, but Dad didn't want to barrack for them in Brighton. A friend from his from his school invited him to the grand final replay, and Dad became a Melbourne supporter from that day on. If it wasn't for that friend, I wouldn't have followed my dad to be a Melbourne supporter today.

I'm not a Luke Beveridge fan but the only player of note they have lost was Bayley Smith, and he's been a problem child at the club. The rest were playing VFL footy at some stage.
Goody may have a good rapport with the players but that may cloud his judgement. Some of the player extensions have been questionable. And I won't go into our club culture issues, because I'm sure you'll defend it to the hilt.
You don't rate Jack Macrae, who was a Norm Smith medalist? Or Caleb Daniel? It's interesting to hear Daniel talk about the soured relationship with Bulldogs post his trade to North. Not to mention the commentary about some players' remarks in speeches at their best and fairest. It's not a happy camp there.

The docos the club produced of Kozzie going home, last year to South Australia with Trac, this year to Western Australia with Clarry and McAdam, showed it, I think. He has so much love and respect for his players, which was so evident to see, and it's reciprocated. They're special moments, and they're relationship building. You can't fake that, and they take effort and patience to build that kind of relationship. You either have it or you don't - he does. In abundance.

I think a bit factor that is being left out is Goody's rapport with the players, which I think is there. If you compare that with say the like of Luke Beveridge, there are whimpers that that's a big factor as to why players are leaving the Bulldogs, is that the abrasiveness of Beveridge is wearing a bit thin. I don't see that the rapport with the players is a problem at Melbourne, They seem to respect and value him. That's a massive plus. We're not having a massive exodus of players, in fact we're having players extend their contracts mid way, including the likes of the kids in Windsor and Tholstrup, which I think is telling.

Unfortunately not, I work full time and I just can’t get to training, sadly. I should be able to do January training, though, since I’ll be in school hols.

Players were all in black armbands for Jack. I chatted to Edo after the game, she said the players were all devastated about the accident. The club has reached out to the family and offered support.
