Sigh, Oliver is one of the brightest stars we have had in a long while, could be anything and I'm tipping 200 games plus! Thank Christmas we got one high pick right, FINALLY!

I was at Highgate arena today and I watched him very closely. I will file a comprehensive player personel report later but I have to say. This Bloke is the "Real Deal" On so many levels he is an inspired selection. I say inspired because the Toumpas fiasco of yesteryear, The pressure to pick Darcy Parish, and or one or two others. So I'll give you my observations, 1 He set's himself in the right position for Offence or Defense 2 He has uncanny spatial competency! I'll call it the Dr. Who factor! He creates time and appears that he has plenty of time and peripheral vision to assess the right option for disposal which he gives off effortlessly. I have previously called the is the "Greg Williams" effect. I reckon if Greg saw him he would agree coz he's just as tough and Quicker!!!!!! 3 I saw him dispose of by foot today and he is very precise and clinical. 4 He has serious "Grunt Factor" got crunched once or twice got up dusted himself of and stared again. 5 Went for a few "Species" again don't mind a Mid playing tall, infact he was in FF for a period of time 6 He is taller than I first imagined but with good Musculature in the Thighs which then prepare him for good "Core" strength. I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself but Sheeit I reckon he is Bloody GOLD nugget! I'm putting a lazy $50 on him as the 2016 Rising star and I hope to Christmas he doesn't read Demomland and I've' put the mozz on him Oh one other thing I agree with Dazzle Man, I don;t read anything into the Chuckin and 70% game time It was friggen Bloody hot out there today!!

For Chrisakes can we stop comparing Clayton Oliver to Jordie Mc Kenzie. Same hair color , same number, but that's where the similarity ends! Jordy Maximised every bit of ability that he had,which wasn't much to start with and played AFL footy. In my view plenty of blokes with stack more ability than him never ever played a game. He was an average kick, average handball, average mark, but could tag another player and that's about it! Lets face it Jordy Mc Kenzie was an indictment on our recruiting at the time and I doubt whether he would have been on anyone else's list. The fact that we gave him a 3 or was it 4 Year deal is damning at best! A deal of a lifetime for a tagger in a low performing footy team, what planet were we on?? Oliver on the other hand already has displayed "Rare" awareness of those around him and seems to have time to lay of damaging handballs which create havock with oppositions. He has pace, grunt and hunts the ball. I have already compared him to Greg Williams with his shimmy and stunning movement laterally and the fact he picked every right option to handball. Lets face it Dom Tyson could learn a thing or two about dishing of first time rather than trying to break every tackle on the planet! Clayton Oliver is NOTHING like Jordy Mc Kenzie in a footballing sense and IMV he will become a 200 game player with the Dees! Now stop comparing him. Jordy Mc Kenzie gave everthing he had and deserves accolades for playing AFL footy. But that's it!

I hope you are trying to say that McKenzie was never a footballer but this Kid certainly looks like one!

Gawd I'm over this thread ,,, But I can't help myself! I was one very vigorous poster well and truly wanting Wines Over Toumpas. I don't care what 8 or 9 Recruiters said, I had seen enough of Wines to know he was the inside Grunt Warhorse and that we needed, so much more than an outside finisher in Toumpas Not that my opinion matters a Whit with many around here but now here is the stark reality. Double Blow for MFC We didn't get Wines and Toumpas has left after 3 lamentable Seasons. You can say what you like about who we picked up after Yadda Yadda but the reality is we got it so badly wrong and within that we really lost out on the Value that Wines would most certainly provided and doubly so The Value Toumpas never gave us! Given our history of dreadful draft picks we really couldn't afford to get that one so wrong IMV

The One thing I noticed startingly was his turn of speed with the ball through heavy traffic! My esteemed Colleague Dazzle man also noticed this! In many of my vids of "Sir Robert" one thing stood as stark reminder of class and that was the ability to see peripherally those around you and decide in a blink of an eye which way to weave to esape heavy scrutiny from opposition! Probably why Rob lasted so long in the more brutal era's with not too much body damage! Oliver has I believe, the same 'Uncanny Time" and if he matures as I expect him to will become One of the "Darlings" of the MFC young brigade! Bring it on Son!!

Clayton Oliver will make Jimmy Toumpas look like a z rated extra in some nondescpipt off world sports ad! There... glad I've got that of my chest!

Delidio and Cotchin were dreadful in last years finals! As leaders they should be seething with their inept displays I could never in my wildest dreams imagine Chunky Jones playing so poorly in a final! Give me the goer anyday in a final! Is Jones that different to Todd Viney, who was superb in our finals campaigns Deledio and Cotchin ?? Meh.. If you cant produce in cut throat finals boys, go play tiddlywinks with grandma around the corner!

Hnmm Ok, Can see where your coming from and in retrospect maybe correct re Half as good would be a fail! I retract this comment. However chunky would get a game in most if not any other team and so as a benchmark if Oliver is as good I'll take it! Better is obviously a huge bonus! But remember Oliver has been selected as our "Late lament" version of Ollie Wines and we all know how well the guy we selected went! So as stated as good as Jones is good and if Better, will be a huge bonus IMV.

Nathan Jones would be the first player picked IMV and rightly so! Why this thread was sabbotaged beats me. I agree with Dazzle Man the thread is about Clayton Oliver and if he turns out to be half as good as chunky I will be reasonably pleased. As good or better, I will be rubbing my hands with Glee!
