I have read a lot of stuff in the Casey thread about Gus's latest Headknock. I think this deserves its own thread. In previous threads I have seriuosly questioned whether Gus should go on. I do not do this lightly. My son's footy career is finished with a series of injuries not Concusion related but in his early twenties that's it. I am not pleased that his career is over but glad his body doesnt have to put up with any more trauma! As a Father, Supporter and Member, I would seriously have the question the long term effects and want Cast Iron guarantess that Gus will not have any short term or long term effects from the "Battery" of concusions he has now had by playing on. After seeing the Will Smith movie "Concussion" If you havent seen it do yourself a favour and go watch it. It is based on TRUE U.S story about many Gridiron players suffering long term effects from repeated head knocks. And remember these guys wear helmets! Remembering Daniel Bell and others, I spose you do want to give the boy every chance and I hope I'm not overreacting and yes, I know the club will be ultra cautious and put his health first but at the end of the day.if he was my son.....

Rob Flower knocked back quite a few BIG offers from AFL clubs to leave Melb and his answer was always a resolute and resounding NOOOOOO! He would have played in premierships, but he remained loyal to the Melbourne Football Club. I don't care what sport it is, Loyalty is such a lost virtue ( and before anyone says yeah but the club can trade you out at a whim), I can remember Ron Barrasi talking to his players in that Iconic book was written by John Powers "The Coach" and he said, Regarding transfers, "No player who is really valuable will ever be traded out of North Melbourne" or words to that effect. Rob Murphy was very similar and I suppose thats why we have always loved the Champion that still gets well paid but isn't totally driven by the $$$ Or the possibility that life on the other side is always greener!! As for Pedersen ? He's a dud. Poor decisions, turned it over, and only got the ball while he was on ball. I much prefer Weideman as a contesting forward. He is stronger than Weeds at the moment and so comes in automatically a no brainer! Trengove's class at times stood out. looks like he was playing majority as a half back flanker which is something we might see in the AFL soon. has time and composer at this level. "At this level' which is a zillion miles from the frenetic pace of AFL Too slow and finished! IMO Oscar was another who was meh for me. Got rag dolled in a marking contest by none other thrn Ayce Cordy.. Needs time at VFL level That's coz he is no good and never will be! Ragdolled by Ayce Cordy?? Might as well have been Cale Morton! Here Here. I do applaud Goodwins style BUT he is trying too many things in too short a space of time. Agree with all you have said! The dual Captaincy thing is his biggest blunder to date and there is no fixing that till next year, unless Viney abdicates ( which isn't likely) The buck stops to a degree with the players and if some cannot adapt to the way he wants to play then at the end of the year see ya later!
