2022 Injury List
So Maynard just threw himself at Gawn for no reason...

NOT Taylor Walker
I'd honestly look at bringing Hogan back next year if our forward line worries continue. I'm not sure he's contracted next year, and surely would be open to returning on a short-term contract (initially) for relatively limited coin now. This would be worth the risk.

My 3 word player analysis v Collingwood
Having sat in basically the same seats on the wing of level 2 in the MCC for the last three weeks (thereby having an ideal view), I've been trying to identify what the problem is. Until today, I thought it was primarily the continuous bombing of the ball to a crowded forward lines - doing the same thing time and time again for the same negative result. However, I think the reason we are put in this position is plainly due to slow ball movement and being too 'cautious', players too scared to take the game on and make mistakes. When we have the ball on the half back line, we try to get the ball forward with 15 metre kicks wide, adding in the odd handball, which simply gives the opposition time to flood back and make it almost impossible to find a free forward. We have no option other than to bomb in and hope - which is what teams did to us last year. On the other hand, opposition teams over the last three weeks have shown positivity towards us, use the 30-40 metre kicks to targets, which simply means by time they get it to their forward line, we don't have the numbers back and they can use space to score. Player for player, it's hard to argue we don't have the most talent in the league, so why we are not taking the game on is simply beyond me. If we don't change this come Thursday week, we'll simply be making up the numbers for the rest of the season, and wasting a very very good list. The 'problem' is fixible - once we do it, it will have immediate effects, we will have far more room and our forwards will all look way more potent - just like that! My take on today: Gawn - limited without making any real contribution, due to injury Viney - Prolific, without being overly damaging Brayshaw - Mr Reliable in the backline for three quarters in terms of blocking the opposition movement forward, albeit being 'too careful' when using the ball, hence contributing to slow ball movement Salem - Reasonable given game two Lever - Some decent uncontested marks but otherwise a deer in headlights Bowey - Liability Turner - A presence and relatively promising before injury Petty - Restricted but focal Hibberd - Classy, poised, encouraging game one Oliver - Lucky he plays for us! Petracca - Nothing possessions, clumsy at times Langdon - Ribs must still be a real problem Harmes - Little to commend B Brown - Restricted because of congested forward line, but needs to hold marks Jordon - Sound disposal, but a momentum killer, slowing play down too much, often reverting to 15-20 metre safe kicks Neal- Bullen - Pathetic Jackson - Needs to make a decision on 2023 asap, otherwise 2022 will end up a total waste Spargo - same as Jordan description, minus the 'sound disposal' part Sparrow - Player that has gone the 'most' backwards since 2021 Pickett - Mr Cameo who goes missing 99% of the time Fritsch - same as B. Brown description M. Brown - I was a fan before today

Steven May Suspended by the Club
Got nothing against Jones as a person and loyal servant of our club, and by some responses I get the feeling people aren’t always allowed ‘unpopular’ opinions here (based on the old face palm responses), but I think Bernie Vince (in 2018) and Jordan Lewis (in 2019) had shown more in their respective final seasons to be given one-year contract extensions than Jones did after each of these seasons. Jones’ last 3-4 years were just so-so after he was unbelievable in our dark years. He was no doubt rewarded with new contracts for loyalty, and in actual fact even if he was gifted games to get to 300, it’s probably not a bad thing for the fabric of the club, whilst also giving players around him perspective not to take things for granted. His comments the other day probably weren’t necessarily, but he’s not an employee of the club anymore, so he can do what he wants - look what Matthew Lloyd says about Essendon almost of a daily basis - I’m almost surprised they let him in their little circle on Friday night 😊

Retiring no. 2
Hardly, are we going to retire number 9 and 31 retrospectively as well? Eventually we may then have to retire so many numbers (11, 13, 5, etc) all of our players will be wearing Ben Brown numbers

Complacency
What? Really? I’m staggered a head coach with a top team would actually say that.

CHANGES: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Dunstan should stay, controversial call but is he worse than Viney? Could he be better? I don’t know. Either way I think there’s a place for him in the team. TMac looked slow for Casey today. Unless the Weid just doesn’t come on over the next few weeks, or injuries, I can’t see TMac back for a while.

Who are our rivals?
All very true, a lot can still go wrong. Carlton has just lost Cripps for a month. If a few of our guns go down at the wrong time of year it could be problematic. However, having said that, Richmond 2018 was the only example of past teams you’ve referred to above where there was probably daylight between them and the next best. They just had a horrible night in their preliminary final against Collingwood. There is daylight between us and the next best side (probably Brisbane if they turn it on), then daylight to everyone else. We’ve barely flexed a muscle all season yet despite four wins, so if we are challenged I think we’ll still win most games. Injuries and/or inaccurate kicking in a crucial finals match will be the only things that might stop us this year.

NON-MFC: Round 3, 2022
Same with every Bulldogs game. Been happening for years. Won them a flag 6 years ago. It’s ridiculous.
-
NON-MFC: Round 2, 2022
Like usual the Bulldogs have 25 players on the field and are still getting beaten

MFC AGM
When I registered for the AGM back in February I also registered a question I wanted answered at the AGM. Interesting that near the end of the AGM they said they answered all questions which weren’t ‘individual questions I.e. about a member’s membership’. Well, they never answered my question. I then posed it again in the chat box on the Zoom call. Ignored. The question was concerning the Board’s decision to essentially ‘advocate’ particular board members in election rather than give everyone an equal footing, particularly as anyone applying is a legitimate Melbourne person. Obviously they didn’t want to go near this one.

Herald Sun AFL 2022 Magazine
Has anyone tried to download this (rather than buy it from the newsagents)? Claims it's $7.95 to buy the digital version, but once try to buy, it slugs you an extra $12.00 for a delivery fee (when it's emailed to you). Anyone else had this problem? Obviously didn't proceed ahead as a result. If anyone has read the magazine, what do they say about us?

Pre-Grand Final Match Simulation
What’s Daniel Merritt got to do with this? 😉

Redbacks?
Our media promo just had us in our red back guernsey? Surely we’re not wearing them? I actually like it but wouldn’t see why...

COVID & AFL 2021
That’s what I blindly said after I walked out of the MCG on 2 September 2000 trying to be somewhat positive 😉

GAMEDAY: Rd 21 v West Coast
They’re just reliant on one!

NON MFC: Rd 21 2021
People pointing out that we have dropped to fourth given Port won. Frankly it doesn’t matter where we finish in the top four, the key thing is to go into the finals in form, fresh and no major injuries. We get that, we can win the three finals. In saying that, we will make the top four. We will win at least one of our last three, if not all three. It just depends on what approach we take. Given the Swans result tonight, I wouldn’t be against resting McDonald and Salem now if they have any sort of injury. Would rather freshen them up and have them right for next week and the finals.
-
NON MFC: Rd 21 2021
If that was the case and we went into the finals off three successive losses, and still made the top four, that wouldn’t be a good thing!
-
NON MFC: Rd 21 2021
4 you mean... 1 win in the H&A and three finals 😂
-
GAMEDAY: Rd 20 v Gold Coast Part 2
7 frees to 2. Does Nicholls still hate us? Nonetheless solid quarter, not sure why planet people are in saying we’re not on today
