In 2016 Beveridge defended the umpires after a game against Adelaide where they won the free kick tally 28-12, which included Troy Pannell awarding 17 to the Bulldogs and 1 to Adelaide. They have had a charmed run since about that time. The 2016 GF was also a magnificent display of umpiring.

As a few of us suspected, the team had been doing a block of heavy training and our game style had changed to one to reflect lower energy levels. Now the tapering has begun, the energy is back and normal transmission has resumed. I predicted a 3 goal win yesterday morning. Was nice to have underestimated the margin. Opposition teams just cannot score multiple goals in a row against us. Port changed their approach in the third to use the corridor more but we shut that down pretty quick.
