Tyson Stengle
I agree we should be looking at Stengle and Rachele was a player I also thought would suit our needs, possibly in an exchange with Petty (I think we would need to offer a bit more)would also take Richards from the Doggies in a heartbeat. I also agree we will revert to a forward half territory game however I am having none of the slow entries. Any forward especially your X factor players want quick entry into an open forward line with space to weave their magic with higher quality looks on goal. For me the less stoppages the better. If there is a team that has been the victim of mystery finger tips on shots on goal according to a score review it’s Melbourne, in particular ANB. Make no mistake about it a forwardline that is required to constantly run so high up the ground to defend and back, slow ball movement into congestion and kicks wide to a pocket is why we are so inaccurate in front of goals. Costing us games and possibly a premiership in 2023.

Hot Future Forwards
Couldn’t agree more why did we recruit Fullerton, play him and send Petty to the backline or Casey. Unlike Petty and JVR he is a ruckman. Leave JVR deep in the forwardline to take marks, crash packs and kick goals. Aces in their places. Wish we would stop trying to turn defenders into forwards and forwards into rucks. Don’t get me started on extending Schache for a year after being an unused sub in a final. Our list management and player management ( whether it be injury or form) has been a huge disappointment. Start integrating some of the Casey players into the team over the remainder of the season. See if they can be part of the solution going forward, stop recycling players that are quite frankly a part of the problem.

Dees Down But Not Out
If Scott Pendlebury was in the landing zone instead of Gus there is no way he would have come down like that.

Justin Leppitsch
Definitely need a change in the coaching group. The fact the players were locked out of the meeting room at half time for quite a while says that they are either not on the same page or out of ideas. Wasn’t quite the Don Pyle stare but it was strange to see. Nothing personally against Stafford but we need a specialist forward coach. Happy for to work with the rucks and as a stoppage coach because that is his area of expertise. In fact right now I personally wouldn’t mind changing up the lines, Stafford into mids and McQualter with the forwards. Currently it is not working. Would love Leppitsch at the club, he was good at Richmond as well but I cant see him leaving Collingwood for us unless offered head coach.

Harrison Petty
Don’t blame Petty as we have not managed him well post injury. On current form would be lucky to get a pie floater and a warm can of West End for him in a trade with a South Australian club.

SOLUTIONS NEEDED. 2 JUNE 2024. Memo to Goody
Fast ball movement into an open forward line with blocks and leading patterns will absolutely help. Should a team have a plus one or two then where do we place our spare. We haven’t worked that out yet, haven’t for years with our forward line connection. Unfortunately our contested bulls are getting beaten in contested football so there goes our one wood. With a change in the holding the ball rule I would love to see us pressure the source more as opposed to guarding grass and playing a zone relying on an intercept game. When your team is getting pantsed I’d especially love to see us go one on one to see who is the weak link in the chain getting beaten by their opponent and not doing the effort based stuff. Last week needs to be a line in the sand game. But it was coming. Brisbane at home, the first half against Richmond, Eagles away. The premiership credits are over for me. Stop selecting players that are obviously playing under duress, stop playing players that aren’t performing or have no obvious form line at Casey to warrant a promotion. Stop selecting players on past reputation or deeds at another club or ours. Perform or play at Casey. Would rather see the kids play with a bit of fire in the belly. Let’s see some accountability in selection.

SOLUTIONS NEEDED. 2 JUNE 2024. Memo to Goody
They can but will it. At post game press conferences we keep hearing “learnings” and “all 3 phases of the game” yet in one of these phases we have been dysfunctional for years with no signs of improvement. Hope I am wrong but I have no faith that this current set up will turn that phase around.

SOLUTIONS NEEDED. 2 JUNE 2024. Memo to Goody
I understand that and absolutely agree with you and that is exactly my point. If we were to leave say for example JVR, Kossie and Fritta in our 50 there is no way an opposition is leaving them unchecked. That is 6 less players clogging up the field leaving space for Rivers, ANB, Bowie, Salem, McVee, Windsor etc etc to run and carry thru the space being created and being the quarterback of you like designated kick into an open manned forward 50. Fast attacking transition football with less overuse and margin for error. Hiding our weaknesses and playing to our strengths.

SOLUTIONS NEEDED. 2 JUNE 2024. Memo to Goody
Couldn’t agree any more. We may use the corridor a bit more but there is no fast ball movement. Why??? Because our forwards all push so high up the ground to help out the backline that when we do win the ball we have very few options ahead of the ball. So we wait while our forwards who amble back into position. There is no sense of urgency or spread. It’s chip, chip, chip and turnover the ball in dangerous positions exposing our backline. We don’t have the skill for overuse of the ball or precision slow ball movement down the ground. People used to bemoan JJ for slowing up play. JJ was not the problem. It’s our structures!!! I know it’s the modern game but FFS Simon be a renegade. Have some stay at home forwards creating space up the ground for line breaking runs, run and carry and long direct kicks into an open forward line giving our players a chance one out in dangerous spots and higher percentage looks at goal.

Training Ground?
Thanks for posting notes Bluey. Genuinely interested in your last line “failed meeting”, how so? Seems to be pretty positive dialogue from reading the notes where most of the concerns of the local group are actually going to be met. Seems to be good compromise to me between all parties.

POSTGAME: Rd 11 vs St. Kilda
Absolutely correct. It was great to watch, probably fun to play and very effective. Here is the frustration. Why don’t we play like that more often? Quick ball movement, changing angles, overlap run and options a plenty laterally and ahead of the ball. In other words an attacking mindset. We do have the talent and ability to do so much more often and consistently. Needs to be more accountability around this.

PREGAME: Rd 11 vs St. Kilda
Don’t disagree that Angus is a massive loss and we are effectively currently two players short on our list. I don’t think the balance of our list is all that great. We have a whole heap of talls that are either finding their feet or banged and gone on a year too long or one that has been sent to play b grade in the ammo’s to get some game time. We haven’t drafted a pure midfielder in quite a while. Who are the pure midfielders at Casey? Casey can’t run out games because they are too too heavy.

PREGAME: Rd 11 vs St. Kilda
Agree with everything you have said Dazzler. Don’t worry about the stats, the naked eye tells you everything. That first half against Richmond was utter garbage. Couldn’t hit a handball under zero pressure against a bog ordinary side. Then that effort against West Coast. Backline has been great and has saved us. Midfield has gone backwards and our forward line and mids to forward connection has been a construction zone for years. We have regressed this year. Be less pressure on us and I believe better chance of success if we finish bottom half of ladder and have to play a final away from the MCG which we are every chance to do. We have failed the test there over the last two years. Unfortunately teams are going past us, not necessarily giving us windburn but I genuinely can’t see us challenging. Genuinely hope I am wrong there though. I will always love the Melbourne Football Club that will never change. However I really struggle to enjoy watching our game style. I seriously question whether the players actually enjoy executing or attempting to execute it on a weekly basis. If it’s not fun to watch, is it fun to play.
