  1. Thanks for the reply and the training report/s . Probably me still grumpy from Sunday. I understand it is important to have a break from the grind of gym, meetings, watching tape etc. I know they have the main sessions at Casey which will be intense and I genuinely see the value in having fun sessions to keep morale high. As mentioned maybe just me but for the optics after Sunday I wish they had these games with an Aussie Rules Football. Glad to hear they had goal kicking practice today, I hope it wasn’t from the penalty spot.
  2. Thanks for the training report Harvey. I’m all for keeping it light and fun and maybe it’s just me but please Melbourne Demons read the room can we not do it with footballs. Our basic skills, decision making and communication on the weekend were putrid. Play some team based fun games with an Aussie Rules football. Not great optics.
  3. No,but even Ross Lyon plays a more attacking brand of football. Words I never thought I would say.
  4. I understand that is his philosophy. The club or Goodwin has a decision to make. Do we persist with this defensive game style that is not contemporary or working. A style that will hurt our attendances and membership sales. A game style that will see us have less than commercially desirable fixturing which will also make us less attractive to sponsors ( eg shorts sponsor) all of which hurt our bottom line.
  5. I just don’t believe Goodwin can coach offence. Hasn’t found a solution to our midfield - forward connection or forward line functionality over the last 3 years. I have no faith that he will be able to now. We are now also so easy to score against. Will always be grateful for the premiership but I don’t think he is the person to take us forward.
  6. Difference between Hawthorn and Melbourne is that they had the balls to tap a multi premiership coach on the shoulder I doubt we do.
  7. No a total regression. 2021 - Premiership 2022- Straight sets finals exit 2023- Straight sets finals exit 2024 - 14th We have gone from being good at contest and defence to now being good at what???? If that’s not regression we are stuck in quicksand and teams are flying past us.
  8. They will also be happy that the media blowtorch will now be on us………and deservedly so. That performance today was unacceptable.
  9. We didn’t fluke that flag, however everything else you said I absolutely and wholeheartedly agree with
  10. [censored] talk to each other, 3 avoidable tackles for holding the ball in a quarter of football is disgusting.
  11. Good by pressure by Sharp to force the mistake. Get in their faces with some manic pressure Demons. It’s North FFS.
  12. For a team that prides itself on contest and defence, we allow way too much uncontested possession.
  13. When you finish 14th and play a very bland brand of football in comparison to the “glamour teams” then the reality is you are not going to be prime time. It’s up to the football department to change that because it will be hurting the bottom line.
  14. Forwards must step up and deliver today, if the roof is closed then there is nowhere to hide. Need to be more efficient or we are just treading water. Cannot take North too lightly.
  15. The difference between Collingwood/ Giants and us in close games is the mindset. Collingwood / Giants are attacking well drilled teams, they go for the win. Goodwin is conservative and tries not to lose. Case in point against Giants last week when that kick in from full back was about to take place. Giants had. W60 sign held up on interchange bench which I can assume is a minute left we need to go for it, which they did and they got the win. Collingwood last night with a minute to go hold up the stop sign, which you assume is to do whatever it takes to slow play down and not give up a goal. Depending on where the ball is and the time left in quarter they manage the game well…… if there is a team that concedes more red time goals than Melbourne I would love to know who they are. These teams are better organised, drilled and disciplined that is why they win the close games more often than not
  16. Maybe Jim Stynes consecutive games record remains intact. Crisp to get suspended for sling tackle. Go on Michael Christian……. I dare you.
  17. Absolutely agree. He is our most accurate set shot for goal and is a very smart forward with great forward craft. With this in mind why are we using him so high up the ground. Aces in their places. We are not playing to his strengths. Have him patrol inside the forward 40 with space to work in one on one by getting the ball in quickly. Having said that he does need to be much better defensively and that part of his game is on him because that’s attitude based not talent based.
  18. Bittersweet day at the G yesterday. Pre game I honestly thought they would be too good for us but post game disappointed to lose. There are quite a lot of green shoots and positives to come out of the game. Great to have Clarrie and Trac back and the performance and contribution of the debutants. It’s only a very small sample size but some problems still exist and frustratingly so. 1/I think we still overuse the ball too much in the wet. 2/ We concede some very soft goals in “red time” 3/ We concede some very soft goals out the back of a contest 4/ We concede too many coast to coast goals We showed yesterday that when we go quickly and directly ie first goal of game, first goal of 3rd 1/4, bang - bang in the 3rd 1/4. Obviously goals from the centre clearance allow this due to the 6/6/6 rule but when we hold our forwards back and give them a chance one out we are extremely dangerous and will score, the talent is there. Our ball movement is still too slow and indirect more often than not. We play with way too much width and allow opposition time to get back and defend. Really hope to see us play with more speed on the ball and directly to give our forwards a better chance on a fast deck at Marvel. I still believe in this group there is plenty of upside but there are problems that still exist that by now we should have found solutions for.
  19. Wearing the Hawthorn home shorts (stomach bug)
  20. Not really, apparently we are playing Giants
  21. He may have to call Jim’s Defibrillators
  22. Agreed. Great to see guys get an opportunity and the depth will hopefully force healthy competition for spots and translate to improved team performance. Hope to see more integrity around selection this year. Reward those at Casey banging down the door and stop selecting guys coming off long injury lay offs that are clearly under done or still not 100%
  23. Bold, aggressive. Dare I say it almost un-Melbourne like and I love it. Signalling a real aggressive intent. Pumped for Round 1 at the best of times but a valve has already been blown on this one. This is peak. Can’t wait to be there. Go You Demons!!!!!
  24. Couldn’t agree more, other than taking the odd ball up or boundary throw in in the forward line I don’t want to see JVR anywhere near the ruck. I mean he only pulled out of our last game with a dodgy back. We are grooming him to be that key forward, let’s leave him there. AJ has to play and for me it would be to replace Turner. Agree also with everything else that you have posted however I would like Lindsay to play. We are going to miss the class and dash of Kozzie, McVee and also AMW who I think was set for a big year. If the weather predicted eventuates I would like us to go small plus we also need to match the Giants foot speed which for me is a big concern.
