I hear where you are coming from but if we bring another long term injured player straight into the team without a hit out at Casey I will lose it. Our player management / selection this year has been horrendous and I think will ultimately cost us a finals spot. Petty, Salem, Bowey, Fritsch, McAdam even arguably Clarrie as examples rushed straight into the team after long injury lay-off or limited pre season and have been poor. The whole of the match committee group need to have an honest review of their year.- PREGAME: Rd 17 vs West Coast
The only change I would make to the side is Petty out injured / managed for Fullerton. We need to first have a look at Fullerton and see what he looks like in the team, we cannot continue to use JVR in the ruck. Starting to really hit his straps up forward and we need to find a way to keep him down there. Like the effort and intensity I saw from the kids need to keep playing them. Kynan needs a proper run, not two cameos. West Coast is as good a team as any to give him that proper opportunity. Jefferson next cab off the rank.- GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

DeeSpencer 23,632 Posted 23 hours ago AMW for whom? Bowey? Howes? Salem? They all have to be options. Or play him as sub. Kynan Brown can go back to Casey and push his case for a full game when he's more ready. Once again I don’t disagree, I also thought Kynan was fortunate to gain selection on Saturday night given his body of work at Casey and I personally would have selected AMW. However Kynan was given the nod came on for the last 8 minutes and laid a game saving tackle. I say it would be poor player management to drop him to Casey on the back of that as you have suggested in the original post that I was replying to. Now you are saying tell him he will be sub as a minimum against West Coast. So he’s in, out, in. He’s not a Randy honeymooner he’s a young footballer. What would that do for his confidence and development. He has to stay in the squad even if he is the sub again. I also think that AMW’s good form cannot be ignored and he deserves and opportunity. For me he comes in for Salem who is being “managed” whether it be knee injury or form. Lever to come in for Tomlinson who is a bit unlucky.- PREGAME: Rd 16 vs Brisbane
Agree with all your points except the last. You cannot debut a guy as sub who is a father / son and passionate demon supporter, bring him on with 8 minutes to go, busts his [censored] unlike some in the team and lays a game saving tackle and then send him back to Casey. I know our player management / selection has been questionable but that would be a new low.- Trade Targets
Geelong have a de facto academy in the Geelong Falcons in the Coates League. They pick up a lot of free agents or trade for players on the cheap to come home. No other Victorian club has this leg up. The argument you put up about lifestyle is also correct. As for Sydney. They have been up there long enough now and have well and truly established themselves. They should not be benefiting from the ability to draft recruit Academy talent without some restrictions. No wonder they haven’t bottomed out for years.- Steven May staging fine
Any danger the AFL could fine / suspend Carlton players for claiming they have touched the ball off the boot when they [censored] haven’t.- GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

K. Brown in for either Chandler or Bowey for me. Depends which end of the ground we want to play him. Woey Jnr to come in for Billings and Koltyn for Trac. Not sure if we should persist with Petty forward, not fair on the player or team as it is clearly not working. Wouldn’t mind Fullerton in to have a look at him and to provide proper back up for Maxi and leave JVR in the forward 50. Petty to go to the backline for Turner but it seems Tomlinson is coming back in so that stuffs that up. Doubt we will send Petty to Casey but form warrants it. The only logical explanation I can come up with his selection in the team is to boost or maximise his trade currency. Next in line for call up: AMW and Sestan Under the pump: Either Chandler / Bowey Salem Good luck to Kynan. A Demon supporter living the dream. Play with passion kid and be a spark for your team.- PREGAME: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne
- The midfield numbers behind staggering drop-off
This week we are on a of a hiding to nothing. If we win well it was just against North. If we lose then the knives will sharpen even more. Yes we have been affected by injuries this year but so have teams like C,C,C,Collingw (sorry can’t drop the C Bomb) and Richmond. However those mentioned play with enthusiasm, passion and have a discernible plan. I can’t say the same about is unfortunately. For me I would like to have a look at the kids and inject some passion and enthusiasm into the group and freshen it up. Going forward we need to have a real good look at the list and see who will be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. Will be an interesting off season for me where we need to have a bit of a cull of the NQR talls, the injury prone and those that won’t embrace physical contact. We need to balance up the list and stop putting square pegs in round holes. Our list depth and quality has been exposed and we need to inject midfielders with speed and skill into the club to keep us thereabouts. Happy to back a few steps to go forward. I just want to see “Demon Spirit “ to see out 2024 and see where that takes us.- Angus Brayshaw Forced into Retirement
- Realistic hopes for 2024
Which is staggering considering there is a new mid season interpretation on the holding the ball rule which rewards the tackler. Maybe we didn’t get the memo from the AFL. Tackling is more effort and attitude based than talent. It’s a mindset. Pick the players that will and drop those that won’t. If it means playing the kids then so be it.- Tyson Stengle
I agree we should be looking at Stengle and Rachele was a player I also thought would suit our needs, possibly in an exchange with Petty (I think we would need to offer a bit more)would also take Richards from the Doggies in a heartbeat. I also agree we will revert to a forward half territory game however I am having none of the slow entries. Any forward especially your X factor players want quick entry into an open forward line with space to weave their magic with higher quality looks on goal. For me the less stoppages the better. If there is a team that has been the victim of mystery finger tips on shots on goal according to a score review it’s Melbourne, in particular ANB. Make no mistake about it a forwardline that is required to constantly run so high up the ground to defend and back, slow ball movement into congestion and kicks wide to a pocket is why we are so inaccurate in front of goals. Costing us games and possibly a premiership in 2023.- Hot Future Forwards
Couldn’t agree more why did we recruit Fullerton, play him and send Petty to the backline or Casey. Unlike Petty and JVR he is a ruckman. Leave JVR deep in the forwardline to take marks, crash packs and kick goals. Aces in their places. Wish we would stop trying to turn defenders into forwards and forwards into rucks. Don’t get me started on extending Schache for a year after being an unused sub in a final. Our list management and player management ( whether it be injury or form) has been a huge disappointment. Start integrating some of the Casey players into the team over the remainder of the season. See if they can be part of the solution going forward, stop recycling players that are quite frankly a part of the problem.- Dees Down But Not Out
If Scott Pendlebury was in the landing zone instead of Gus there is no way he would have come down like that.- Justin Leppitsch
Definitely need a change in the coaching group. The fact the players were locked out of the meeting room at half time for quite a while says that they are either not on the same page or out of ideas. Wasn’t quite the Don Pyle stare but it was strange to see. Nothing personally against Stafford but we need a specialist forward coach. Happy for to work with the rucks and as a stoppage coach because that is his area of expertise. In fact right now I personally wouldn’t mind changing up the lines, Stafford into mids and McQualter with the forwards. Currently it is not working. Would love Leppitsch at the club, he was good at Richmond as well but I cant see him leaving Collingwood for us unless offered head coach.- Andrew Wu (The Age) on our DEECLINE
