  1. Enjoy your work but I watched it and that's not what was said. He said something along the lines of, "if Collingwood are allowed to play that play on, free flowing game, they'll blow this wide open." Which was absolutely correct. But he also complimented us on our ability to choke them. In his own words. People ride what he says too much. I rate his opinion. Emotional supporter get ticked off too easily if he has a critical view of their team. The vast majority of what he says is respected within the industry. And what he says about us, I agree with. It's hard not to. But I find it fascinating that your memory of what he said is so wrong. You clearly don't like him.
  2. It's a non-issue in my view. Outside of those Academy players and f/sons, there's a plethora of talent. And we have many avenues to make moves this year given our draft hand. It's incredible for a top four team. On the tassie players, if we were keen on McKercher for instance (gun), and decided to take him this year, consider it an investment if he eventually decided to leave for tassie once they come in. I don't think we could be better placed and depending on how those tassie boys are performing, it might end up being worth taking one of them. Best case is that they would fulfil their potential and be a demon for life. Worst case is they leave to play for Tassie having been in the system for a few years and we'd receive overs from a new club with an endless amount of draft picks in a heavily compromised draft year. I imagine some clubs will be thinking about this as a potential strategy given the way McKercher is tracking.
  3. What was the crowd split? Did we show up in droves or have a few thousand pull out did to our form and for being Melbourne supporters..
  4. Unbelievably gritty, hard and admirable win. We played our system and played it well. We were unbelievably patient and stubborn and that got us the game. But I will say something. We could be a dynastic team if we had a couple/few more elite ball users. Because my god do our best players butcher it consistently. And that's something I hope we address in the off season.
  5. Providing his body is sound at the end of the season, I'd absolutely take Elliot Yeo. Would compliment us perfectly.
  6. It's unbelievable how many posts in this thread are about who will or won't play for Collingwood. WGAF. Two years ago we lost to them and they had about 6 of their star players out up in Sydney.. This game will come down to our pressure, ability to execute the fundamentals consistently most of the game and ability to win contests all over the ground. Regardless of who is in or out. We owe this feral club a beating. And it will all depend on what mindset we bring to the game. They are not invincible, but I trust their ability to perform more than us atm like most do. But it will have nothing to do with outs. Port beat us with a VFL level forward line by bringing a mindset and application all game. Hawthorn the same against Brisbane. Completely in our hands.
  7. Keep saying it, their draw is hard. And they're inconsistent. The next four weeks will be tough for them imo. Especially without Darcy.
  8. Joize I've upset a few! Sounds like some have taken it as a personal attack because they're in that 50+ age bracket?! Hope everyone's okay, no offence meant. Having a great time in Europe btw everyone! Thanks!
  9. 'touring'. Both! Fair enough. Looked and sounded very pro Carlton. But I understand you were there. Just hope we show up on Monday, as we know Collingwood will.
  10. Our crowd for Carlton was pathetic again. Under 50,000. Our home game. Carlton outnumbered us easily again even though they're a lost cause. We better show up on Monday.
  11. Injuries also to Hoskin-Elliott and McCreery although I'm not sure of the severity. De Goey gone also helps. Collingwood showed weakness today and whilst I said less than 24 hours ago that I don't think we could win on current form, I think we csn give them a shake if we bring serious heat all game.
  12. On current form line, we won't get close to Collingwood. I just really hope we can put some form together for the second half of the year. Atm it feels like second half of last year all over again. So unconvincing, sloppy, selfish and patchy.
  13. Why do you think Darcy Wilson is Pur main target? Just a feel or do you know something?
  14. Here's one thing I'd love to see. Players to keep their feet. May to keep his feet when the ball is on the ground in dispute. Is that too much to ask? I've never seen a big guy flop on the ground as often as him and he has allowed countless goals eventuate because of this. Would also like our captain to keep his feet more often instead of dropping to the ground playing for frees. Sure he gets whacked etc but I'd much rather he just keep playing ball and let the frees come when they come.
  15. The team have certainly popped the hype balloon that was building for this game given our last couple of performances. God forbid if we lose to a completely out of touch and undermanned Carlton this week. The Melbourne supporter drop off will be significant going into the pies game if we do. The club needs a rocking win this Friday night. A game of string four quarter football and none of this picking and choosing nonsense.
  16. My sense is that it's you that doesn't watch much of him? Himmelberg is 195cm. Which is around the average key position height I would have thought. He plays tall because he is a competitive beast in the air. He crashes packs, takes marks and doesn't allow oppo to outbody him like McDonald and Brown. He's also far more effective at ground level. I'm not sure how many more differences you'd like pointed out? If your argument is that he's not the '200cm + monster key forward that oppo need to respect' then where is that player coming from can I ask? And when? Given we're a team in the window now. Himmelberg is a stop-gap key position player who possesses a skill set that T Mac and Brown simply do not. I'm not sure how you think he is similar to either of them?
  17. Early in the season I know, but I think we should have a crack at him. Free Agent at the end of the year. Same age bracket as Trac, Clarry, Gus, Salo, Lever etc. (Core). Won't cost draft capital, he's not going to command crazy money and whilst he's been a little inconsistent over the journey, he has all the attributes we need as that key post plus he's 100 x better at ground level when compared to T Mac and Brown. It still allows Jefferson to develop his body and game at VFL level and he'll help us stay within contention whilst we still have Gawn and May. I think it's a no brainer for us. We can't afford the million dollar catch and I believe he'd thrive in a fresh environment, at a Melbourne club and at a club that is still in the window. If we landed Nate Caddy from the draft who displays very similar traits to Curnow, it'd go a long way to solving our forwardline woes. Himmelberg, Caddy and Roo is a much better sounding front line than any combination we currently have. Unfortunately for us, nothing has changed regarding our entries going forward which just doesn't help an ageing Brown or T Mac. Himmelberg is a cat on the ground, Caddy is unbelievabley agile and athletic at ground level and we know the pressure Roo brings. Means Petty can go back, (where he should be). He is sorely missed in defence imo and I'd say Lever and May would feel similar. I don't care that we're halfway through the season. This list won't stay young forever and our forward line has struggled far more often than it has thrived. (regardless of the out of whack stats some posters will no doubt throw up). We've struggled when facing any contending side and our forwards just don't instill fear in the oppo. Another aggressive trade and Free Agency post season is needed. Operation Himmelberg is on the agenda. Show us something this Friday night Melbourne.
  18. I reckon we should have a crack at Himmelberg come to think of it!
