You can train until the cows come home but you cannot train or condition yourself for effective “match fitness” not even at intraclub level. It’s that simple. Being aerobically and anaerobically fit to an elite level is one thing, but being able to run, take hits and commit to second, third and fourth efforts at high intensity against a supremely fit opponent is another.
