The issue is we don’t blood enough youngsters. ANB started well yesterday then left, Harmes the same, Spargo and Chandler were off and TMac is not the present or the future. That’s 5 of your 22 not doing much. I’d prefer we play Schache, Turner and one of Laurie or Woewodin, or a bit of both and look to seeing where our list is at. Problem is we should have been doing that since round 1 and I can’t see Goodwin changing things up much from know on. We’re “stuck” at the top and look stale and unadventurous. Surely with Petty out and Turner playing well you get him into the side? How many poor games does Spargo get to play before Laurie has a chance? TMac over Schache? At least Schache can run. (I can’t believe I want Schache in the side but what’s the alternative?)

Sure, but every time we come up against it by a lesser side such as Freo we should be able to withstand it and beat them. We don’t, we roll over and die, starting with Gawn.

We don’t take the game on. We should be moving it in quickly and if no one’s free we should be kicking it to a contest and backing our team mates to win or halve said contest. Gawn being cooked has left us without a key pillar of our dominance. Grundy has been good but not sure he’s the answer.

If the Suns go on and win we’ll stay top 4 and keep pretending we’re one of the big boys. Fact is the big boys don’t like us and will kick us out soon enough. We can then go back and play with the middle of the road chaps.

It’s a strong line up

This year should be a strong draft for us and if we can come up with a smart trade or 2 we’ll be back in the game. We need some run and some forward power.

Throw the game plan out. Tell the players to back themselves and run…..both ways. We’re too stagnant. At one point today May marks in D50 and just turns around and kicks it long to a one on one on the wing, it gets squared and help arrives, we win the contest take it forward and kick a goal. At no point did Freo get set. We simply beat them at the contest. If our game is defence and contest then play that way. Go long to a contest, roll in the Calvary and do it again. Keep May as the backstop and sure you’ll lose some. It’s pretty much what the pies do and it’s working. We’re a contest team and we’re damn good at it. It’s like we’re playing against our strengths sometimes

The club won’t sack Goodwin. If we’re smart we’ll move on some assistants and go get the best available. I’d love Leppitsch at the club but that’s unlikely. Goodwin needs some fresh ideas and he needs them soon

Today was nothing like a final. This looked like what it was. 2 ordinary teams each trying to make less errors than the opposition. Throw in umpire no. 6 and I should have mowed the grass.
