  1. I know he is one of Goody's favourites, but Melksham plays one cameo role every few weeks and delivers nothing inbetween. He is a perfect example of how inconsistent the effort is from this group. The more i think about it, I think Goodwin is overthinking gameplans and structure and the players just can't or won't do what he says. When we go on a run for a 5 minute period, I guarantee it has nothing to do with gameplan - One risky kick comes off or one handball clears congestion and they have space and freedom to operate and the game opens up. The exact opposite to how we set up and seem to want to play
  2. Jaden hunt brings plenty of value, his goal
  3. I would have us 8th-12th. If things were to go our way, we could sneak into the 8, but it would be heavily reliant on other results. The consistency is just not there. We have a lot of very one dimensional players and have kept players involved for too long, when they are not up to it or past it. There isn't a single player on our list who would strike fear into opposition coaches/players with their ability to single-handedly win us a game. Clarry could have 40 and no one else would come for the ride, Petracca could have 25 & 5 but he'd be going it alone, Max could win every single hitout for the day and the opposition would destroy us in clearances by roving to him. Occasionally those scenarios could go in our favour, but not often enough to be a legitimate threat
  4. I took that as sarcasm, I think he hated it.
  5. I am a huge Oliver fan, he is a seriously goof footballer. His work around the contest is phenomenal and his handball is razor sharp. Where I think he falls behind is perceived effort, Tom Mitchell for instance is another accumulator, but he is frantic in his approach. Clayton get's things done with very little fuss, he's not bowling people over to win the ball, he just gets it and moves on. I doubt he will ever be regarded in the same manner as the absolute elite, because most observers are not clued in enough to watch what he does and he certainly doesn't showboat around to make people take notice. Martin, Fyfe and Dangerfield are all very similar in their desire to take everyone on alone and when it comes off, people notice - it also fails often.
  6. He is a very instinctual player, at his best when he isn't thinking. I think that's why he got caught out a few times as a backmen early last year, too much time to try an manufacture the perfect option
  7. I am convinced Fritsch is a marking half forward, rather than a permanent deep forward He's crafty and win's his share as an isolated target, but his field kicking is very creative and reliable. Fritsch on one side as more of a stay at home HFF and Harley on the other roaming as an extra mid.
  8. I would not have ANB in my starting side, but he did everything asked of him - and some. He was clean, he made the most of opportunities and contributed in a meaningful way. Selection this week will put some noses out of joint regardless, but I'm not sure it should be him or Hunt. It is extraordinary that we have almost an entire list of 'confidence' players. Not many on this list give consistent effort every week.
  9. That Rivers play where he streamed off half back and hit an isolated leading target was equal parts beautiful and confusing. It's not something we have seen in 18 months
  10. Carlton should be [censored], but they did exactly what we can’t - change things up when the game was getting out of hand. Pittonet was fantastic in the last 3 quarters. Gawn’s first quarter was immense, then he faded out of the game. On paper, we look like a 5-6 goal better side and they made us look big ordinary for the majority of the game
  11. It’s amazing how it’s ingrained in the whole club that a ripping first quarter will amount to zip in the scheme of a game. I watched the first quarter with a wry smile and waited for the last 3 to happen. It’s so very predictable. Max was absolutely breathtaking with his ruck work in the first quarter. Some of his taps were extraordinary. The only thing that really kept me watching was Rivers. He will be a serious player. Very classy debut and he’s got plenty of go too.
  12. Probably a combination of all those points. A little bit of youthful enthusiasm/energy could be just what we need. The blues are not exactly a team of seasoned old blokes, so our young blokes should not feel so out of their depth
  13. I am in the same boat. Regardless of how well Harley is doing, the directive would be to look after him at every opportunity
  14. It will be interesting to see some more footage. At present he's 'training the house down' by just being out there. Is he actually doing things on the track that warrant the media attention or are they looking for a story in a desperately slow period? Full credit to the club for taking a risk and the medical staff for getting him to this point, let's hope the last portion sees us reap the rewards for years to come
  15. Petty could be the man to crash some packs - Hogan was not
  16. Again, I agree. Plenty of the power clubs hold more members than they can fit in their home grounds. So getting to games is not necessarily peoples priority
  17. I agree. The big clubs get big crowds because being competitive is one of their fundamental objectives. We never know what we will get from week to week, that's a very hard sell to fans
  18. I thin the more people we have available to play, the further our depth is exposed.
  19. May looks so lean compared to last year
  20. Thanks goodness the boys are not dominating and leaving us rueing the season that could have been!
  21. The recent state of origin games were a good indication of what we need to be considered really top class. How many players did we have that were required by Dimma and Horse? We do not have one player that would be considered the best in the league in their given position. Max is in the conversation and that's it. Plenty are better than average, but we don't have anyone that will win us a game by themselves ala Dusty, Danger, Fyfe etc
  22. I think there would be 5-6 I'd take before Danger now
  23. Bont is a brave choice, I like it. I don't see enough of Fyfe to appreciate his work, I only watch Melbourne games. Dusty is frustratingly good, just turns it on when needed
  24. ANB is an extra man for any opposition we play. He's had a go and is definitely a good athlete, but we simply must expect more now
  25. As exciting as Kossie is, it would be hard to carry him in the west against a very stacked eagles side.
