Thanks DX. I work in the corporate world so what you say is true. What I would add though is the external mentor must be completely impartial/neutral. Internal mentors may have their own agenda and therefore will not necessarily give you advice which is in your best interests. There is a conflict of interest at play. That’s what I see here as well. If Goodwin mentors Smith who then becomes a good player Goodwin might convince him to make a career move to Essendon (where he was coaching at the time) which may not or may not be in smith’s best interest. There’s an obvious conflict there. I would be 100% against an assistant coach from West Coast mentoring young Rivers for instance. That coach would have an obvious incentive to sway his decision making in favour of the Eagles.

Contract size and duration, mental health struggles, hammys, wife and child are in another state. This trade would make sense on absolutely no level. The Dees have recruited smartly recently. Treloar doesn’t fill a need. Ben Brown, a winger be it Smith or Phillips and a better support cast are the objectives. Stick to the plan and don’t get distracted by the bright shiny thing.
  3. Well worth his spot for next year. Would love to see him take young Rivers under his wing. Impart some of his considerable knowledge and footy IQ and ensure the kid doesn’t experience any second season syndrome.

I can understand players helping each other through the ALPFA. I mean Petracca did reference Pendlebury when discussing his improved form this year. Coaching staff at other clubs seems a stretch but I’ll take you word for it good Dr. Any update on who the other surprise player on our radar is?

Oh ye of little faith ?
  6. I think Hogan is attitude and drive whereas Brown seems to be purely about the knee. Freo would have known about Hogans temperament but probably thought being around family and friends back in Perth would help him settle down. The opposite appears to be the case. If Burgess and the medical team have given Brown the all-clear that's good enough for me.
  7. I hope this isn't the case AF as it will advantage the clubs with deeper pockets.

How much does he regret not choosing Richmond! Talk about a sliding doors moment.
  9. Finlay his brother through the draft. I made the same mistake in another thread.
  10. I would. I value Brayshaw a little higher though so i would want an exchange of picks as well.
  11. The mods have an important role to play in weeding out trolls no doubt but I think posters need to take a look at themselves and how they respond to criticism. My advice: Don’t take things personally. People are allowed to have a different opinion to yours. Don’t get defensive. Too often I see posters get abusive when their comments are fairly critiqued. If you can’t handle criticism you’re in the wrong place. Don’t respond if angry or upset. You’ll regret it.
  12. Are you asking me who boo is? sorry can't help you there.
  13. Don’t let the b*****ds drag you down! Take some time out if that’s what you feel you need. You’re welcome back anytime.
  14. My sanity and mental health is very grateful. Thank you.
  15. Trac is as close to dusty as any other player in the league. I share your reservations about Goodwin.
  16. I'm sure once Brown starts taking marks, winning soft free kicks and slotting goals you'll have no problems embracing him
  17. Ben Brown, Weiderman and Petracca
  18. Umpiring is difficult because the rules keep changing. Firies, health workers, police and defence forces all have it much tougher though
  19. Nah QD. One more good preseason and the rest of the comp better watch out ?
