  1. Second hand info, but heard out flight got turned around back to Melbourne.
  2. Best thing for a 'unified' team that has looked anything but for a month is a road trip. This part of the season could potentially end up a blessing, but it's Melbourne so who knows.
  3. We're flying in and out same day for GC so perhaps they class it as 7 nights rather than 7x24 hours? It's all confirmed.
  4. Not 100% sure, sorry mate. It was mentioned on AFL 360 earlier in the week. Gut feel is that it might be like some of our other stats, as in - something we were already middle of the table or worse with but then over the last 6 weeks has gotten worse. I think the 'worked us out' stuff has some merit in that teams have been able to develop strategies to combat our strengths, but as you mention it's another thing to be able to execute it effectively.
  5. Didn't want to start a new thread, but geez as bad as the Hawks are; at least they didn't sack their coach of 13 years halfway through someone else's press conference like Port Melbourne just did... Far out.
  6. The comment I was responding to was "embarrasing loses to bottom sides wouldnt happen on his watch!" And if you look at the ladder at the time they played them they were all in similar positions. Either way, it's a silly comment as Hawthorn are currently a bottom side, so it simply doesn't stack up.
  7. Yeah, but that wasn't your point. You said no assistants from poor sides would get senior gigs. We just don't agree on this. I think the AFL industry is far smarter and more involved than that and it becomes clear in AFL circles who is highly rated at their job despite the external performance of the team.
  8. Mate, they lost to the Roos, Blues, Suns and Crows this year.
  9. Hang on, Teague took over at Carlton right? He literally went from assistant to head coach at a poorly performing club.
  10. Simply can not agree that Yze would be 'tainted' if Goodwin under performed as senior coach. If that logic rang true then we'd run out of AFL coaches pretty quickly.
  11. Yeah if you could read it and then explain it to the rest of us that would be great...
  12. Only thing is, we'd lose Yze and quite possibly Choco (if we haven't already by then) if Clarko came over. IMO, if for some reason we change coaches in the next year or two it will be to put Yze in charge.
  13. @Smokey & @rpfc There's A BIT in it, but it does reference heat maps a fair bit. Here's a thesis by Dr Karl Jackson, Head of Data & Analytics for Champion Data. https://researchbank.swinburne.edu.au/file/248ec147-72d7-448c-a19d-49f01d90b12f/1/Karl Jackson Thesis.pdf
  14. Gotcha, that makes sense. With that in mind, it would still indicate where a player has been 'positioned' though as you would assume if there's possessions close together often then that's the main part of the ground the player is playing, while the less often and further apart ones are obviously the less common spots.
  15. Can you explain then why some areas are red and others yellow if there's only one dot for each?
  16. No one said it's GPS data did they? I believe the 'hotter spots' on the heat map indicate where the player spends time with the ball, indicating they're running in those areas as opposed to receiving and disposing in quick succession. Might be wrong, but that's what I've always understood of that.
  17. Yep, and whole game.
  18. Bees meet honeypot.
  19. Yep, may have moved him later in the game, but definitely spent most of his time in the first half in defence.
  20. For reference...
  21. I reckon it's a pretty proven strategy given recent results. It's not a slight on Lever, May and Petty, all are still playing well, but using extra tall forwards to bring the ball to ground makes us vulnerable because our small defenders are not great below their knees. No coincidence Hibberd is coming out this week and Goody moved Spargo to the backline last week.
  22. The talls aren't the only players in defence.
  23. Yes they did. 6 goals from stoppages. We were incredible vulnerable when the ball went to ground in defensive 50. Melbourne are rated as the worst in the AFL for giving up scores from defensive 50 stoppages.
  24. Carlton...
  25. Few apologies forthcoming to certain journos due, but not expected... Hawthorn and four-time premiership coach Alastair Clarkson part ways
