'Worked us out' is such a cop out comment. It means nothing. Do you reckon all the oppo/strategy analysts and coaches spent the last few seasons sitting on their thumbs? As for the kick outs, do you think maybe being predictable is part of the plan, ro do you reckon the coaches are just too lazy and/or don't know footy well enough to change it?

Is that what I said? Pretty naive to think the club hasn't already spoken with prospective clubs and begun negotiations based on potential outcomes. Do you believe clubs wait until 9am on the first day of trade period to start talking? This has absolutely no relevance or meaning in the context of the discussion. What is even the point? How will Freo get a top 10 pick this year? Why would we think a pick that could potentially be 14-18 next year would top off the deal?
-
Club will ask for Andy Brayshaw, which to me is the obvious explanation why Gus hasn't made a call yet IMO. That doesn't mean we'll get him mind you, but that's what MFC will ask for as a starting point in negotiations.

Can you pinpoint for me then exactly what Stafford has changed about his coaching in that time then? Must have been drastic to go from something so amazing to apparently such a fail within 12 months.

We need to wear our normal jumper this week
Lord Nev replied to Great Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Was that back when we had a single red line running down the middle of the jumper? Or when we had just a red collar? Maybe it was when we had the horizontal stripe? Oh wait, you probably mean the royal blue one? Wish game day would hurry up. -

It will be a different design next year. Isn't the problem you have with the look of the jumper? That's seemingly the complaint here by those whinging about it. -

This week is likely the last time we'll wear it, there will be a different design next year. Don't see the point in complaining about it now other than everyone being extra snippy because we lost last week. -
Ah yes, completely change everything weeks out from finals, have a game plan that is a weekly proposition, stop defending kick ins and yell some abuse at them... All when we're 2nd on the ladder (by percentage). Seems reasonably well thought out and not an emotional reaction at all.

With Daw, Mitch Brown and Jackson all gone or likely gone, Ben Brown and TMac a bit of a worry with injury/age, I reckon Weid stays for his second year purely out of necessity. Even this year with those players all still around he's played 8 games, so not sure we have the depth to trade him at this stage.
-
Haha of course. Would have been surprised if he didn't stay a 1 club player, but thought a slightly longer contract might have tempted him. For reference, the rumour came directly (not directly to me though) from the team bus after the Geelong game.
-
I was pumped after the first quarter - he was covering the ground well, taking contested marks, all a bit higher up the ground but it seemed to bode well for his form. Then he just totally disappeared by half time and didn't take another mark for the whole game. Gut feel is Goody will persevere with him, but just me personally I'm not convinced he's going to find consistent form struggling to get a touch at AFL level every week. Most likely option seems to be one of JVR or Weid comes in this week to give him better support.

It's not all the mids fault. As already spoken about in this thread, the forward structure and leading has been horrendous this year. Ben Brown has 1 mark from 45 one on ones, I find it hard to believe the 1 mark was the lone half decent kick. He was outmarked 8 times among that number too. He's our number 1 most targeted player inside 50. The whole narrative of 'the mids just bomb it, it's their fault' falls apart pretty quickly once you go to a few games and see the lack of leading and efforts from the tall forwards. Clearly something needs to change - the disconnect is a worry - but these stats miss the bigger picture.

Why did this make me think of Marilyn Manson...

Assume it's from somewhere in Champion Data. Not sure if us nuffs have access or you have to be in the media/AFL industry.
-
Rumour (and I stress, rumour) is Dees have offered a 2 + 1 deal. So 2 years, then option for a 3rd based on meeting KPIs.
-
The bombing is a problem, but IMO it's not all on the mids. Our forward structure is a bit of a mess and Brown plays his part in that. He is not moving well this year, struggles to lead or find any space. We need to look at the delivery for sure, but part of that is often when our mids look up to deliver inside 50 they just have flat footed targets not giving them anything.

3x Premiership Winner, Team Of The Century half back, Captain, the list goes on. Passed away yesterday at the age of 95. Vale.

Only took 1 mark inside 50 against Geelong. It's not a 'contested mark' stat, it's how many marks he's taken when one on one inside 50 and has the ball kicked to him.
-
And to clarify, I rate him as a player, I just wanna find a way to get him in form for finals.
